Make no mistake I just hate the IPL, still thought this is a 2 month long event and eventually we may have to post something on this.

On one hand disappointed with Pakistani players not participating but also happy that they won't be a part of this circus which I think is good for their careers, hell the Indian Hockey team is visiting Pakistan next month the Govt. is OK with that but they just can't digest the cricket to take place between the two rival teams, pathetic.

CSK,MI,RCB are obviously strong teams, Pune will miss services of Yuvi, hoping that dangerous Uthappa makes up for it big time.

That's nice Mikey!

Yes Mystery I'm also happy that there is AUS-WI, ENG-SLN and towards the end ENG-WI to keep us going! actually it's good even for fans to take a break, I'd be looking forward to some F1 action and some Clay Court season in tennis! Smile

However, if I have to pick one favorite this time, I'd pick RCB, they look a formidable unit. I'd also be interested in watching Tamim Iqbal for PWI, always thought people are mad not to pick such a fine player in IPL!

Counting out Michal Clarke,Mathews and Samuels (I guess they will be doing national duties) still there are 10 foreign players

C Fergusson
J Hopes
N McCullum
J Ryder
W Parnell
G Smith
S Smith
A Thomas
T Iqbal
L Wright

Who do you play and who do you leave out ? Ganguly will have lot of problem while deciding the playing 11 (I mean they will use these guys in lower order).

Whatever , I want Uthappa,Pandey to open the batting , but I guess they will spoil it like last time. Ryder comming 1 down is a great threat for opposition.

If I had to select four overseas , then Luke,Ryder,N McCullum would be there to start with, while I try to figure out who would be the best fit for 4th spot.

Smith is also likely to be out, he is having ankle surgery.

Out of those players, I'd go with Ryder, McCullum and Hopes... I'd definitely pic a more Australian style seamer just to mix things up, and all three of these guys are good hitters. Nathan McCullum is particularly useful in T20 and Ryder can bat anywhere.

Smith does not even need an injury to sit out methinks - he is ordinary

I would not call smith as "Ordinary" Zuhair! someone with a test average of over 50 after 8 years of international cricket when he plays mostly on South African tracks (perhaps the most bowling friendly country in the world today) cannot be ordinary.

Graeme Smith was excellent for Rajastan in the first IPL, when Warne miraculously led them to victory. Since then he has been poor in the IPL from memory.

Zuhair was referring to Steven Smith.

Yes Mikey, Hopes is a valuable player, unfortunately he never gets the space because Watto fills that place. In T20's he can be very very useful.

Correct Sam, I was clearly referring to Graeme Smith who is having the surgery. Steve Smith is injury free at the minute.

Yup Raj, I'd definitely pick Hopes for most games - very useful all rounder, can bat anywhere in the order and is good value with his 4 overs.

One thing I would call "ordinary" was the opening ceremony today, so much hype but I found nothing spectacular about it!

You guys saw that , lucky that I did not even realise that there one.

Sledge , are you supposed to write a column somewhere in a some media ? coz other than that I don't see any reason why you could not hibernate ... I mean what is stopping you from hibernation?.

I give it a miss in the middle, and watch only few games in the middle (just to see how my fav players perform) .Understandable IPL is domestic tournament and these tournaments are supposedly only for locals viewing. For example , I did not even when know when Big Bash started ... , while Bangladesh PL also got over ... Then If I am right there is some Friend or Provident Fund T20 tournament in England while there is a domestic T20 in SL too ... I hardly know a single team in that .. forget all that I don't even know who won it. I just get to know that is started sometime, just because it comes somewhere while I was browse cricket sites.

IPL is far more hyped, and involves many more international players than other leagues. It is difficult to ignore the IPL because the ICC goes out of the way to support it, if you see the FTP there is a virtual window for the IPL where mostly all other test playing nations are not having any other assignments. This is not the case for other T20 leagues, where we still have cricket going on.

I agree if we don't want to watch it then we don't watch it, like I didn't saw the opening game yesterday, but then we can't really ignore the IPL because it is sooo sooo long.

I saw in the news that ground was empty for the first match is that correct?
Rohit Sharma - What the world has seen is gear 1, gear speed 2,3,4,5,7,8,9 to be witnessed in IPL only.

yes Mystery the attendance for the 1st game looked low, one side was totally empty, however today for the KKR game it is a packed stadium with over 56000 spectators.

Morne Morkel bowled a superb spell today, loved it!

Yeah, brilliant from Morkel. He is just going from strength to strength in all formats, it was not too long ago that he was struggling. If he keeps up his consistency then Steyn/Morkel/Philander can be one of the all-time great Test attacks.

It really irritated me that Morkel didn't get the MoM award. It's so biased in favour of batsmen. Even yesterday with Levi getting the award ahead of the likes of Pollard and Ojha who bowled their 4 overs at around 4 RPO and took 2 wickets. Unless a bowler takes 4 or 5 wickets in his 4 overs, he never gets the award whereas all a batsman has to do is score a quick 30 and he gets it.

I will watch today's match for sure - just because I want to see an ex-Pakistan player playing. If he does not feature in the playing eleven, I will switch to news

Only good thing about IPL is seeing some old favourites, like Gilchrist and co.

I was very happy that PW's won against MI. Steven Smith get the MOM and also enters into Ganguly's good books ... It is a two edged sword , Ganguly has tendancy to persist with a  player for long time even if they fail.

Steven smith can be useful in shorter format , but I really think there are other players in PW team who need to play ahead... maybe , but if Steven Smith performs like this , then nothing can stop him from booking one spot in the team.

I'm surprised that Azhar Mahmood didn't play today, very surprising indeed. Gilly's team selections have always been very poor, even when he was the captain of DC he was very poor in team selections and also in bowling changes.

Good knock from Rahane, RR should win this easy.

One round finsihed and still early days but  RR,DD,PW and KKR seem to be in a good shape. So CSK,MI and RCB  need to be on guard , coz looks like this time these teams might stand up to get counted.

KXIP and DC need to do the right selectionss and put up a better fight.

LOL before the start of the tournament I just thought DC will end up last, I didn't really saw the game yesterday but looking at the scores I'm certain now that DC will end up last.

Just going by the first impressions RCB and DD must be able to make it to the preliminary finals, the other two spots will be closely fought for by the other 5 teams mentioned by Raj, I also agree that Kings XI and DC wil be the bottom two this time, makes me change my mind too, I'll now go for the match between DC and RCB, it's on a Sunday and a 4 p.m start, that is just about fine with me.
