Not now, no. Do you want to name a team taking into account injuries to Lewis and Bradshaw? |

I have taken various scenario's it seems certain 3 teams will end up on 12 with only two able to go semi finals! England should be fine (win west Indies) and the winner of the SA vs NZL will be safe to for the rest we will likely see 3 teams at 12

Determining factor will then be results between the two/three teams (which I've used throughout.) This may well prove inconclusive, in which case I'll look at run rates. |

Final Super 8 games, and they were fiercely competetive: West Indies v England: Too little, too late for West Indies, but was it enough to send England packing? South Africa v New Zealand: A close fought game, winner took all - but who would that be? India v Pakistan: India had to win to have a chance of making the semis. They did. Australia v Sri Lanka: Australia took a crushing win, but as it turned out, it wasn't enough for them to make it through. The points at the end of the Super 8 15: South Africa 12: New Zealand, India, England, Australia 9: Sri Lanka, West Indies 3: Pakistan Going by results against the others, the team to miss out on the semi-finals is Australia, because: In a mini league between those four teams on 12 points, New Zealand beat England and India, India beat Australia and England so go through with 6 points. That leaves Australia (beat NZL) and England (beat Aus) on 3. As England beat Australia, they go through. SEMI FINALS (to be played tomorrow) South Africa v England New Zealand v India Injuries: Gambhir (India) Kemp (South Africa) Vincent (New Zealand) |

We might as well do a play off for 3rd/4th. You won't be in it though. Semi final 1: Semi final 2: New Zealand probably peaked too soon, and weren't strong enough to overhaul India: So, the World Cup final, tomorrow: India v South Africa 3rd/4th play-off: New Zealand v England Injuries as they were today. |

WORLD CUP FINAL: A poor looking pitch at Barbados, and South Africa decide to bat first. They make a solid start, with Dippenaar and Smith putting on 61 before Smith goes for 39. South Africa bat well, with Gibbs and Kallis hitting some big shots but with the run rate always around the 5 mark they know they are about to set a challenging target for the Indians, and the final score is 265/3. The pick of the bowlers was Kumble who only conceded 37 runs from his 10 overs; Harbhajan picked up 2 wickets but was expensive. The Indian reply started poorly as Sehwag went with only 3 on the board, then Ganguly was gone 30 runs later. Dravid and Tendulkar were left to rebuild but just as Dravid got into his stride, Kallis got him lbw for 30. When Laxman and Yuvraj both fell to the returning Pollock, you sensed the game was up for the Indians, but with Tendulkar and Dhoni at the crease, anything could happen. But from 115/5, as Dhoni played himself in and Tendulkar made sure he didn't get out, the run rate continued to rise, and despite some big hits, the South Africans were always bowling too well for the Indians to cut loose. The only hope for the Indians was to hit Boje and Smith, the two spinners, once the main bowlers had bowled out. Alas, by that time the run rate was in the mid 20s and with 33 needed off of the last over, despite the first ball going for a four, a dot ball from the next confirmed that South Africa were the World Champions. RSA 265/3 (Gibbs 68*, Dippenaar 53, Kallis 53) IND 239/5 (Tendulkar 108*, Dhoni 50*, Pollock 3-44) South Africa win by 26 runs. Tendulkar century in vain - scorecard here Edited by -JP- |

the game you are running this on appears to have an inflated opinion of South Africa's capabilities :/
