We will have less death rubbers, with something still to play for!
How can we maybe, more test the depth of a squad? Currently everybody announces a 18 man squad but the same eleven play nearly every match accept for the odd injury.
How about we make it a rule that you have to make a mandatory 5 changes after every test match, to your team. That will make the squad selection more interesting and you have to use the whole squad.

Completely unrealistic - why would you ever do that? Anyway, it'd just be case, of bringing the 5 left out straight back in again afterwards.

True JP , and the strongest squads would win more easily than they would under the existing rules.

Obviously there will be minor adjustments according to the season just gone, but it won't be more than 1 or 2 points.

Yes, but you're criticising something that is working. As I said to you, it's not all about creating a perfectly level playing field for everyone, else I'd be running a league system where you could pick whoever you want.
Personally, I think being forced to stick with the same 18 over 21 games, with the certainty of injuries and loss of form of players is an adequate test of squad depth. Let's remember that this isn't mastermind, there is no money involved, it is just a bit of fun - if we have to weigh up injuries, loss of form, average changes, and compulsory squad rotation, people will get confused, annoyed and then won't want to play any more.
You are more than welcome to set up your own simulator alongside mine - clearly you have no shortage of ideas - why not see if you can make them work?

If you guys don't like my ideas fine, I will not make a suggestion again. The sim is 28 pages true, but we have had a zillion coaches changed because they lost interest, I had a few ideas to make the thing more interesting, but JP it is your idea and your sim, so forget I ever made a suggestion.

A 'zillion' coaches: you should have researched that before posting. The coaches who left:
One Hammer - circumstances outside his control
GingerPrince - got a virus, so couldn't post
Paralad - went and joined the army
Me - didn't want to get in the way of others
abub - Banned
Superbokkie - Busy with studies
Saad - resigned.
cricketlova, davy117, capital_s, Ibizzle - posted once, lost interest maybe or didn't understand it properly.
None of the major teams have lost managers because of a lack of interest - I can understand the other losing interest as they had to manage teams they can't relate to - precisely why I've introduced A teams this year.

You are right the 2nd division will be more fun, I would like to resign as coach of New Zealand after the World Cup, and take SA A in the 2nd division.

OK, Titan, you are now installed as South Africa A coach. ANIL KUMBLE, I thought you were doing a fantastic job at West Indies, but I suppose you are following your heart and dropping down a division to take over Pakistan.
So far it's looking like:
PREMIER: South Africa, India, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, West Indies, Bangladesh
FIRST: Pakistan, England A, Australia A, South Africa A, France
If no-one comes forward to manage Ireland, I'll drop the play-off idea.
So, that leaves vacancies for New Zealand, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland.

No need to do it yet Vic, I'll wait for the World Cup to finish and for more managers to sign up before restarting.

Ok JP
I would like to keep NZ then and if there is not enough teams in division 2, I would take SA A too, provided that another user don't take this particular team too.
Is it ok with you?

ahh, that's a sign of the weak leadership the ECB were telling me about
when they brought me in to groom me for the top job while I run the A
team

my proposed system for season 2 (2006)
test league continues as per usual with an odd number of tests, maybe 1 test at home and away versus each time? The following this we have 1 one day 50 over match in its own league, again play each team home and away, for example:
Monday-Test 1 (v whoever)
Wednesday-ODI 1 (v anyone)
Friday-ODI 2 (v another team)
thats proposal no.1, another one is have 2 tests in a week, friday, and tuesday respectively. But obviously SA and Aus are going to win as they have best averages etc so how about this, this probably wont be allowed but it sounds funny.
Every team plays each other with the proper managers in 1 test and then what happens is the managers swap teams for another 1 test. The poinbts dont go down as teams but as managers. Im mad eh?
Or, heres a thought, wee could keep it the same

I don't really want to combine both ODI and Tests, it just gets confusing and messy. You're right though, you're mad!

yep, certainly. how about keep same rules but have bonus points like follows:
score in an innings above 400- 1 bonus point
bowl opposite team out for less than 150- 1 bonus point
individual player scores more than 673- 98 bonus points
no ignore the last one, thats just me

Can the "A" teams have the same players as the ordinary teams? If not my aussie A side will still make the world grovel!

County Sim on extended break until I've got less work and more free time. When I have a specific date, I'll post it in the thread.

I'm not sure what you mean - once ramzi picks his 18, you are free to pick any Australian player he hasn't picked. Provided he is under 40, of course.
Bonus points are a good idea - so far we've had the idea of points for a first innings lead, so a point for passing 400 wouldn't be a bad idea either.
