Dinesh karthik has just completed his 4th test fifty during the match being played at Dhaka against Bangladesh and heaing towards century.Dont you think he is playing like a hidden star.Whenever he has got opportunity he has proved himself. Both forms of game are suiting him well now.
U can also appreciate Karthik by replying ur suggestion to this post......... Edited by mann - 25 May 2007 at 8:45am |

I have been pretty impressed with him, he seems gritty and often plays well when others dont, however as NZ_Fast says, we need to see him on some more testing tracks before making a full assesment. A good fielder though and thats rare in the India team.

Karthik has what it takes. If I had to make a choice, I would play Karthik in the tests ahead of Dhoni to keep wickets and Karthik is a handy opener too. That leaves room for VVS Laxman who is a better batsman than Dhoni anyday.
My line-up would be:
Jaffer
Karthik
Laxman
Tendulkar
Dravid
Ganguly
Powar
Kumble
RP Singh
Sreesanth
Khan

Poor choice with Jaffer Scuudz. Sehwag is a way better choice. Jaffer will get 3 ducks then make runs and keep on doing it over again!! Sehwag test record is way better than his!
One thing I noticed with India, they only include Laxman in difficult situations but when it's a nice batting surface, they will leave him out!

Sehwag is not in the squad SW!!
I was talking about the current squad against England. Although after Yuvraj's performances against SA, I wouldnt be surprised if they drop Laxman. Then, I guess Dravid would come in at 3 and Yuvraj at 5 or 6.

I still dont understand why India are bothering with two keepers. Surely there is a better batsman to come in.

Karthik is a very good youngster, but to live up to the likes of sach and Rahul, and Sehwag to a certain extent. Tough job

Karthik is a better Keeper than Dhoni and I don't know why they don't give him the gloves and send Dhoni in the field but the next thing is, Karthik is an amazing fielder where ever he is.
Someone had a good idea about putting Dhoni to sit out of the test matches and let Karthik play them and they could bring in a specialist batter to strengthen the line up!

This tour, while i don't expect him to do anything special, will be a big point in his development, and should show us if he has got the temperament to handle tracks with some movement.

His technique is pretty sound NZ_F , he was impressive when opening the
innings in the Newlands test. He played Dale Steyn nicely and the lad
was quite rapid , first up.

Yep , nice action and decidedly sharp , he did very well for
Warwickshire this season . The UCB called him back to SA and I think
that was a mistake. Next year England host SA and it would've
done Steyn the world of good to play an entire English season.
The county didn't overbowl him and he said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience of bowling on such different surfaces in the country. |

Wonderful action. He reminds me a bit of Simon Jones, but Jones' action is not as "clean" as Steyn's.

Karthik should be in, Dhoni Out.
Dhoni came in with a bang, but his batting is not worth a spot alone, nor would his keeping (i.e. NOT a genuine allrounder). It is time to chose one, as it is ridiculous to waste a spot like this. So, think about it --> Chose somebody who can score consistently with the bat, have Karthik keep wicket (he is truly a fine keeper) and drop Dhoni (keep them both in ODIs).

It was the look on his face, priceless. But when you have Ganguly's fielding to model yourself on, what do you expect!

When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat. |

Oh my gosh, I just saw the catch last night and I couldn't believe it! At the international level, those should be held. Shame on you Karthik!!

Agreed TCA , so long as India can find a solid opener and allow Kartik to drop down the order.
