I don't follow County cricket much. Infact Idon't even follow domestic cricket, but now I'm planning to. Which team looks most likely to win the County Championship at the moment.

A fascinating day's cricket at Hove saw the home side recover from a rocky 161-5 , to end the day on 282-5. A 121 unbroken partnership between Matt Prior and Robin Martin-Jenkins taking them to at least parity in this top of the table clash.

Bad news for Lancashire though , Dominic Cork split a finger in taking a catch and left the field in mid-afternoon. He didn't come back either and the prognosis isn't good - he could be out for the rest of this vital match.

Cork's demise meant that Lancs delayed the taking of the 2nd new ball , waiting until just before the close. This definitely aided Sussex's cause and they'll be hoping to build on their decent 1st day today.

With the inform Mushtaq Ahmed in their ranks , the home side will be pretty confident at this stage. Lancashire , on the other hand , will be looking to knock them over quickly today. The promising youngster , Tom Smith ,will be hoping to achieve exactly that this morning.

Lancashire just managed to hold out for the draw - 9 wickets down at the close! Good game and Sussex will feel slightly miffed at missing out on the win.

Still lots to play for lads!!

So are Lancashire top of the county championship? That was a close game. A possible title decider...

Handy bonus points against Middlesex in that rain affected match keeps Lancashire on course for the championship!

Can't we get just a nice little window of good weather until the end of September lads!!

Or some rotten weather down south!

Solid 1st day for Lancashire against Warwickshire at Blackpool (honest!) , finishing on 250-3.

Against a weak attack (no Streak,Anyon,Brown) Iain Sutcliffe made his 2nd ton of the season. Timely that , as his contract is up at the end of the season. Nice knock from Law of 61 supported him.

After three successive draws Lancs need a win here , but the fickle weather might still have a say.

Today's the day - showdown at The Rose Bowl and a win an absolute must! Warne and company can secure 2nd place in the championship if they win and that'll get them another 40,000 quid .

Sussex travel to Nottingham and a win will give them their 2nd title in 3 years , but Notts need points to avoid the drop.

All in all , a fantastic finale to the county championship , let's hope good weather prevails.

Too much rain shattered any Lancs hopes, well played lads, keep it up for next year!
County Sim on extended break until I've got less work and more free time. When I have a specific date, I'll post it in the thread.

I feel Lancashire were unfortunate, the rain has hampered their chances and Sussex were a very good team to play against, and in the end deserved the title unfortunately, however depending on our performance next season I believe we could get it next year if the weather and luck is on our side, and we perform well again.

Finally we have got started in the FPT even though it was a D/L win. We can't afford to lose any more games. Even though Horton well in the CC game I think Croft is more suited to the one day game with his aggressive batting. Once Flintoff goes back to the England side I see out batting as

Loye, Chilton, Law, Hodge, Croft, Sutton.
Chilton should be batting down the order though.

Tomorrow we are at Durham and it looks like it will be a shortened game with all the rain around.

Old Trafford is celebrating it's 150th year as the home of Lancashire cricket.
Opened in 1856 , it staged it's 1st match in 1857 between Manchester and Liverpool.
It's staged three world cup semifinals and the club has plans to spend 25-30 million pounds on upgrading the facility.

I'm glad they didn't move a few years back - tradition matters!

It has looked increasingly bad in recent years and they will hopefully replace some of the new eyesore stands with something more elegant in keeping with the rather nice pavilion
