Wassup guys,

This is my first post here, but have been reading the forums for a while.  I know you guys must be thinking, OH GOD!! another "which bat is the best?" post.  But this is a little different, I already have decided to get a Laver & Wood Heritage.  But here's what I wanted to know from you guys who already have these bats..

1) Which L&W bat do you own?

2) Did you get the carbo handle or the oval? Why did you pick one over the other?  Any comments/opinions/experiences from those who have played extensively with both would be appreciated. Pros? Cons?

3) What specs are your bats?  I was thinking Short Handle and 1/2" longer blade.  Anyone else have this?  If so how did you like it compared to a SH and a standard blade?  Pros? Cons?

4) What profile did you get? Why? I am getting the special profile that they have, combo of bowed and classic.

5) Did you use the knockin service that L&W provides? If so, then do you think it's worth that extra $50 (AUD)?  Impressions?

Thats it for now, and I appreciate your time in answering my concerns.

1) A private bin and a heritage/carbo (heritage willow carbo handle and stickers)

2) Private bin has normal cane handle, carbo has carbo obviously! James laver put the carbo handle in as he felt it would be benificial on the bat, he was certainly right i much prefer it basically due to the extra power! It can take a little while to get used to but i have to say its certainly worth having

3) private bin is small mens handle and 1 inch less length blade, carbo sh standard size

4) profile shown below of carbo, weighs 2lb 10, private bin is same shape but smaller in a weight of 2lb 8, as you can see it is the 'special profile'.

5) Both time had knocking in service i personally think its a must, as they get the knocking in just right without taking away any performance.

The picture is my atual bat, james laver sent this to me to make sure it was what i wanted.

Thanks alot henjam.  Your bat looks fantastic.  How many grips on your bat?  I am going to order my bat in a couple of days.  I just don't know about the Short handle and 1/2" longer blade.  I am 5'9" tall and have used regular blade throughout.

Thanks once again

It originally had 1 grip but i added another just because of personal preference really, judging by your height of 5ft 9 id say that a standard length blade should be fine, is there any reason why you would need a longer blade?

Well I don't really have the "bend your knees" stance as the coaches used to tell me.  I stand a little taller.  But then again I have no problem playing with a standard blade (have been using them for the last 10+ yrs) and this 1/2" longer blade is just an experiment I wanted to try.  But I think I am just going to order the SH and Statndard blade. James at L&W recommended me the same as well.

Second ofservation:
Is that a knot I see, henjam?
I wonder if it's against copyrights if I copied your batshape and sent it to warsop... They're much nearer to me than L&W...

I believe it's a butterfly stain and not a knot. http://www.cricketbatwillow.com/imperfections.php <-- gives some details.

yer butterfly, and i have to say i may try and get one on my next bat from l&w as the ball pings of that area just aswell as the middle of the bat due to the wood being harder, theres no copyright at all! infact warsop do a butterfly model where they specially select clefts with them in. i think.

Oh ok, since I was considering the same on my bat he told me it's usually better for someone who is 6'+ .  But let us know how it works out for you.  Also  how long did it take for the bat to be ready from the day you ordered? Just curious because I just placed my order yesterday.

5 Days is quick.  I am guessing you didn't use their knocking in service?  And as georgeshaker asked, which profile did you go with?

Yeah, went for the carbo shape the same as henjam. No, I didn't use their knocking-in service. I've knocked in a few bats myself before and have my own mallet so thought I'd do it myself.

Did u bring up ur concerns with them?  If so what was the result of that.  Oh and this is the 2nd negative comment I have heard about them out of many, could be one of those cases.  But sorry to hear about your experience with L&W.  My bat is being made as I type so I can only wait and report back when I get it.  Hopefully in another week or so.

actually i didn't..i didn't buy it directly from laver and wood..i went thru a distributer in new york...i mean the bat looked great when i got it (i still do by the way)..but i really dont have time to go thru all that with a bat company i knew the risk when i bought it..i will just stick with GN they have'nt dissapointed me yet

That would be great.  I woudl love to see a couple of pics of your bat as well.  Even though I haven't gotten then bat yet, the guys over at L&W (James and Megan) have bene absolutely fantastic with answering my questions/concerns and listening to my specs and giving some good advice.

maybe i should'nt be so hasty to accuse laver and woods of selling crap bats ..maybe i just got a bad one or didn't prepare it properly..im quite sure they make good bats or they would not have customers who seem to think highly of them...

That special profile looks good to me :D.  And thanks for posting your experience with them.  As you mentioned it might be because it wasn't oiled and knocked in properly.
