Lara's double, great though it may have been is absolutely meaningless - the Frank Worrell Trophy has already been won by the Aussies, the West Indies have had the pants beaten off them and there appears no light at the end of the tunnel - I would prefer to trade in every single one of Lara's batting records to see a decent, competitive West Indies team - Over the last ten years, our team has sunk to unprecedented lows - I for one think this must be the worst West Indies team in the history of the game, it is certainly the worst era in terms of performance from a West Indies team in my life time - comprehensive defeats to Australia, South Africa and England on a regular basis, internal strife and consistently poor results - one can only hope that the future will be brighter! I concede to you all that I was absolutely wrong about a possible revival of this pathetic team -

You cannot say that scoring a double hundred on the first day meaningless runs. Hello do you not know that Brian Lara is about to the number one scorer in test history, so I think that there is some significance and West Indies would still want to try and win the 3rd test.

Meaningless isn't the right word, Recman. There aren't that many players who will score a double century against the Aussies and Lara has two. They're not meaningless as you can bet the Aussies are busting a gut, they will want to win this series 3-0. It might be a dead rubber but only in name. His runs won't win West Indies anything in terms of the series, but no run is meaningless. |

How can you call a double century against Australia useless, Recman? Those runs are crucial to the West Indies and to him as he closes in on the all time record for most Test Runs.

Thank you for supporting Pakistan. I hope Pakistan win the series because it will really be something to be proud of...beating a team that has just defeated the best team in the world in the ashes is really an achievement.

Even though I take that as an offense, I have to agree with you. Pakistan are a very inconsistent test side and beating any team in a test series is very hard for them. Now, if they beat England...well, that will be their best achievement in recent times.

We'll be out for revenge in that one, especially since we'll hopefully have Simon Jones back and we know how potent Freddie and Harmison are in their back yard. Hopefully Vaughan will find some form and Strauss will be his normal self again. |

yea, once Simon Jones is back, England will certainly be more powerful. Playing at home against Pakistan with flintoff, jones, and harmison...they'll probably demolish Pakistan or Pakistan might surprise them as they did this year.

a double ton vs. the aussies useless, after all come on. all what the west indies went through during this series and you call this useless. i don't agree with that statement at all. big up BRIAN CHARLES LARA, one of the true greats of all time. RALLY ROUND THE WINDIES NOW AND 4EVER

I completely agree with you. A double ton against the world's number 1 team, after your team has been destroyed and you have been in bad form just can't be called useless.

It may have been for nought, but I feel privileged to have been at the Adelaide Oval to witness both Lara's double-ton and his surpassing of AB's record. Simply brilliant, I can now die a happy man...and it may sound a bit parochial but kudos must go to the Adelaide crowd, every person in the ground stood and applauded, even those on the infamous hill, when he walked on the ground. Not a "boo" to be heard. |

I know, I am so lucky, as I said I can die a happy man. It would have to have been the best innings I've seen considering the circumstances, better even that Langer's double ton against the Kiwis. The guy just looks invincible when he's got his mind set on making a score.

Lara is an outstanding player! He is phenominal! I can keep complimenting him and praising him but its just not enough to describe a man of his class.
