Natural History

Any of you out there in love with nature as I am ?   Living in Africa really is a dream and my wife and I get away into the bush as often as we can.   I was an avid birdwatcher as a kid in Cheshire and that has stayed with me throughout my life.  Seeing a Martial Eagle take a steenbok in the Kruger National Park took my breath away , the power and speed of the strike killed the antelope instantly.  The big cats and elephants are other favourites , in fact the entire animal kingdom does it for me !
                 Only last week Sir David Attenborough came to Cape Town to give a presentation on The Birds of Paradise. I queued for 2 hours and just managed to secure two tickets for myself and my missus. The talk was brilliant , at 85 or so , his vioce still captivates and to top it off I got to meet him!  A more charming man you'd never meet and the stories of his 50-odd years in so many countries and cultures was mind blowing.   Seeing Jimi Hendrix in 1970 was the only other experience that was as enjoyable - a fantastic evening.
              So do you get out there , maybe just for the fresh air , to chill out , to fish maybe ( I do a bit of that too) - does the world's amazing wildlife give you the same buzz as it does me ?

I do a fair bit of fishing over here in Perth, North of the River if any one here is local. One thing about Perth though is that it's known to be one of the windiest cities in the world (up there with Wellington and Chicago). So it can be quite touch to fish. Other than that, wildlife is mostly limited to Australian fauna, as the climate is quite dry and arid.

There's an open safari type zoo near Werribee in Victoria, got to see all the African animals on a Jeep. Was quite fantastic! Can't wait to go to SA!

 Ah everytime I see those caribbean beaches spin, I swear I just wanna pack my bag and leave. Wish life was that simple.

Yep , the Caribbean Islands are stunning , as are the people - just a pity they've no cricketers !
