They will start with Farhat and Butt in one dayers and probably Farhat and Khurram in tests.

Unlike you guys I actually rate Butt. I think he's a pretty good player who has done a pretty good job in ODI's, an average of 38 isn't to be scoffed at. His test record leaves a lot to be desired but at only 25 he has a potential 8+ years left to rectify that.

He can never be a Saeed Anwar - he is talented - Yes. But that's about it. Farhat is a better player than him in my book.

No ways Zuhair... Farhat is not a big match player, neither is he a man who can play big match winning knocks, atleast he has never done it so far. The moment he scores a 50 he is bound to get out. Salman has shown that he has the ability to play long, match winning knocks...

Farhat and butt in ODI's, it means 50 runs in 20 overs.

Not really Amal. Farhat has improved his scoring rate of late.

Take away India and I reckon Butt average will dip from 38 in ODI's or whatever it is to about 20.  I still don't rate him, pitch up outside off and he'll easily throw it into someone hands behind the stumps.

Most of the teams against whom he has played significantly, he has at least a decent average. If you say BAN cannot be counted because their bowling is weak, I say Mortaza, Shakib, Razzak and Shahadat are by no means ordinary bowlers. Mortaza and Shakib are among the top 10 in the world.

and then bowling attack doesn't matter, he averages 51 against IND, 37 against SLN and 32 against ENG... while he has very poor record against WI and ZIM. Does this mean WI and ZIM have better bowling attacks than those three teams?

Butt must be a bad option - just look at his record against those mighty outfits Hong Kong and Scotland!!

Meanwhile, Misbah responds to being dropped by hitting 284:

Food for thought. Mohammad Asif has picked up another five-for to prove that he's certainly lost little of his wicket-taking ability.

I don't even know that cricket world keeps record of these first class matches. Although the navigation is easy on the site, there isn't enough awareness that CW offers so many things JP! Earlier I didn't knew that CW also does text commentary for Live Games.

We've got live simulation and live radio too, we're combining those at the moment: http://www.cricketworld.com/internationalcricketnews/article/?aid=20275

It's a fair point though, we do have scorecards of all first-class, ListA and T20 matches, player profiles and a searchable archive not to mention text ball-by-ball coverage, week-daily radio show and our own player ratings, but sometimes it's not that easy to find.

JP, maybe where you all have Home, Betting, Health, Forum etc, maybe if those headings for Archive and Stats where there, maybe people would find it a bit easier, or maybe it's down to people already use Cricinfo so they mightn't bother going anywhere else for stats.

Misbah has always been a prolific players in the domestic circuit and every season he gets one or two big scores - this did not come a s a surprise. However, I still think he is good enough to be in the test squad at least.

I'd rather play a young kid. He's a bit like Hussey. Did well when he came on, then he hits a slump and because of his age is under more pressure. It wouldn't surprise me this summer to see Hussey dropped, Hughes come back in and Watson batting at 6 (with North pushed up to 5). Misbah is in the same situation and the selectors took a risk. In my opinion it's a bold move and I actually like this step that Pakistan is taking. They look an invigorated team now... I was watching some old footage of Saqqi from the late 90s and when he'd take a wicket he'd literally be screaming and jumping up and down. I miss seeing that passion. Wasim and Razzaq were much the same.

Always thought Azhar lacked a bit of pace , but he was good in the one dayers. My point is, the passion is not there any more. The spirit has died off. It was there in Imran's time and Wasim kept it up , but now it's gone. It's the same with Windies cricket , that cool Calypso style is gone. I hope Pakistan can reignite some of that fire with these young bowlers that are coming through.

I agree with Milks on this, even I get a feeling that the spark is not quite there... that enthusiasm is missing. I'll put it down though to the lack of fire power in their bowling as compared to what they had and the openers... Saeed Anwar - Aamir Sohail were simply brilliant.

Aamir was just pretty average in my books - though a hell lot better than any of the openers we now have.

Interesting to note McCullum has been stripped of the Vice-Captaincy. From what I've seen of his captaincy when he has had to fill in is it's pretty average.
He's the kind of player as a captain you would talk ideas over with, but ultimately not let lead. Of course it is very hard to step up into the shoes of Fleming and Vettori, both seem to be incredibly intelligent individuals who really think things though. McCullum may be 'sport smart' but Vettori and Fleming are both sport and intelectually smart.

McCullum is only in the side at the moment because of reputation and lack of adequate replacement. Taking his vice captaincy away is one step towards dropping him I feel.

As you mention there is no better replacement either batting wise but also pure keeping wise. In my opinion, he is in the top 3, maybe top 2 keepers in international cricket and having a keeper of his quality lifts a side I feel.

There is talk of him dropping back down the order to where he made his name but that just puts more pressure on Ryder to score quickly since a replacement is not likely to be a big hitter.

They talk about him averaging 36 over the last year as opener in ODI's, but take out his score of 160 against Ireland and that average drops a bit.

Quite frankly he isn't a top order batsmen. That's what has annoyed me most about international cricket in the last 15 years. Not just the expectation of the keeper to be an excellent batsman, but also the expectation that he can be shuffled around all over the order. You need a replacement opener, so you turn to the keeper, your no.5 gets injured, so you turn to your keeper. It's not particularly fair.
He lacks the consistency of a top order batsman and he is not good enough to be in any other test side, barring Bangladesh, on the merit of his batting only. That's the hard and painful truth. He's a tidy keeper with a solid technique, but he needs to bat at the very highest at 6.

We needed an opener true, and McCullum made his name as a young lad as a destructive opener. He has always wanted to open on ODI's and when he is full of confidence he looks impossible to get out. But, as soon as that confidence drops a little he's out of sorts. He could become a lot more consistent though if he just stopped trying to cut balls so close to him. Swat it over mid off if you must cross bat it, but it's just to close to cut!!!!

People say he is living off that 158, but I don't think he is. He's living off the england ODI series that preceded the IPL where he and Ryder blitzed the England bowling attack.

He does come off as a confident, if not cocky sort of bloke. There's a lot of Aussie about him! But I guess what you portray to the world isn't necessarily an indicator of what's going on in your mind.

McCullum to be quite frank, is the most wreckless opener I've seen.

I'm not a very big fan of this guy but just wanted to know, is Hasan Raza no longer in the frame for selection? I understand there are much better middle order players around now like umer and fawad. However, Raza is still just 27!

Some of his shots that I saw in his breif career were very classy, however he never really arrived at the big stage. is he good enough but just couldn't perform or was he never as good? making your debut at 14 years of age is a remarkable achievement though!

He's a bit of a Mark Ramprakash/Graeme Hick/Michael Bevan. Serial underachiever. Zuhair has played against him before, he might have more insight.

Certainly Michael Bevan was not an under achiever Milky... May be at the test level but not at the ODI level. One of the finest ODI cricketers ever that man!
