I seen people take guard outside leg and it's quite effective but I've never seen anyone take guard outside off.
Very Daring to say the least.

yeh i agree, a guard outside off is very daring, however if your very good at playing tha ball off your legs but are prehaps not so strong outside off then it could be useful
bastmen often step to outside off in late overs during ODIs this is because its alot easier to play big shots through leg

ritual (i'm a bowler though):

1. realise that i'm in bat next and literally the worlds best batsman for getting a golden is now in

2. Quikly get pads on

3. go back for bat

4. absolutely **** myself

5. walk on

6. talk to other batsman

7. take guard (outside leg)

8. just as bowler comes into bowl accidently *hint, hint* shout "wait!!!!!"

9. therefore bowler is annoyed and tries too hard

10. goes wide because of above

11. cart for 4 past backward point

12. get out next ball

13. get a rollocking from my coach because 'I'm the last batsman i should stay in...blah,blah,blah...'

14. Get own back with bowling!!

Slowly walk out to bat, dragging bay on the ground, look to the sky and try and adjust to the light.

Walk up to partner have a quick chat , take guard leg, wait for appluse from opposition to stop ( They clap the Captains when they come out to bat ) Have a look around again , settle into batting stance chewing gum like there is no tomorrow

I can't chew gum while I'm batting, probably because it keeps falling out of my mouth when I run between wickets. Thats probably why all the pitches I play are sticky wickets !

Walk out with bat, helmet and gloves in my hands.
Go to the crease.
Squat down to have a close look at the pitch.
Put on helmet first, then left glove, then right glove (superstition)
Talk with my opening partner about the conditions, what the bounce will be like etc.

Take guard and then proceed to wear in the new ball by smacking it into oblivion a good few times, which also serves for demoralising the bowlers.

1. Don the baggy black
2. Put on batting inners
3. Glance at middle while putting on gloves
4. Pick up bat and stroll out
5. Take guard, two legs
6. Step back, check the field
7. Adjust pads, box, crouch and get ready to face

To the guy who stands outside off, I used to do the opposite. Would take a middle-and-leg guard, then stand about 8 inches off it to the leg side. Umpire would say "you arent on your guard" i said "i know", and i'd move across as the bowler delivered. Helped me get my feet going early on.

I tend to just take my guard and really ignore the field for the first ball, just keep it out.

Just think straight bat and get forward. So many talented players score low because they cant get over the fact that not all pitches are like the nice bouncy astro the train on. Straight bat and get forward are my tips :)

Where i live, I just walk on the field, take my guard and bat. No fancy movement and i never ever did any pre- batting ritual that any international batsman does.

I just stay calm and move with the flow.

I pad up and put an every other gear I will be wearing in the pavillion except the gloves. They stay off until the man gets out. When he gets out, I immediately get up and go. As I enter on the field, or sometimes nearly half way (mainly to switch gloves with the dismissed batter) I start putting them on with bat tucked under arm. When I'm finish, the bat handle is held in right hand and the bottom in the other hand until I reach the pitch. I take guard and watch the field placing and face the first ball.

I sort of have a pre batting ritual i.e while im waiting for the wicket to fall, then another one when the wicket has fallen and im on my way out to bat.
 Pre batting:
1. get my kit on except for by box and helmet.
2. Get a few metres away from the team and do a few short (5 metre odd) sprints and turn etc as if taking a single to warm me up a little.
3. put box on and sit down again
Once wicket has fallen:
1. Put helmet on
2. few running steps
3. walk the rest of the way while swinging my arms/bat around a bit.

1. lose my kit until the last moment before the games starts (lucky im 6)
2. have to try and borrow some decent pads as i lost them a week ago as well
3put my box in the wrong way think something funny may be happening down there
4. have a few practise shots against a m8 before i hit the newcoming batsmen on the skull
5.when eventually get to the crease look at the scoreboard realise were on something good and SWING
6 Depart for either golden duck or 15 (probably stumped or lbw) the only scores ive got in a whole season (3 15s 2 0s)
7. Have a bit of a row with captain
8. Cheer myself up with 5 wicket haul ;)
9. We win by 70 idd runs
10. I go home happy

to be honest i get very worried when going out to bat, aspecially when iam opening and i usually take first strike, usually i get worried becuase sometimes a bowler who is really tall and looks strong, i know he will be bwoling bouncers at me straight a way with pace, so when i am walking up i tend 2 talk to my partner about the way we should set out and when batting i tap the crease and look up at the bowler just when he is about to bowl, i dont look at his run up,

i tend to talk to my self aswell :)
