My ritual is to:
1. Hold my bat in my right hand and swing my arm round in a circle.
2. Jog a bit.
3. Play a few drives and defensives.
4. Take my guard.
5. Just play cricket!

well before i go out to bat I have 4 downed cups of coffee and a couple of lucozade tablets. Then I'm actually buzzing.
1. Come on to the field with all my equipment on except my helmet. 2. I stare out all the fielders 3. Carefully place my hemet on 4. Look at the field placings 5. Talk to partner about conditions 6. Face first ball 7. Defense |

Very little other than talk to my opening partner, remind him who calls when, look around the outfield, oh I walk holding my bat at a 45 degree angle in front of me in my right hand (think metal detector) .

When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat. |

i open so i like to take my time.
1. walk out with bat in left hand (i'm a rh) and play defensive/attacking shots, .gloves in my helmet hold that with right hand.
2.stretch and talk to my partner.
3. breath deeply and take centre middle.
4. instead of blocking the first ball back to the bowler (if its full i try and puch it back past the bowler)

i didn't have anything to put here, so i put this...

1) Tuck the bat under my arm and walk out onto the field
2) Swing the bat clockwise and anti clockwise twice 3) Breathe deeply 4) Imagine myself playing a well timed cover drive first ball 5) Talk to the other batsman about what the ball's doing 6) Tap the pitch using the toe of the bat 7) Practice a cover drive and leg glance a few times 8) Adjust the helmet, pads and gloves 9) Take guard outside offstump Edited by MP12 - 24 April 2007 at 12:29pm |

Yes its a strange stance. My coach noticed that when I just arrived to the crease I took guard a few centimetres outside offstump, when the bowler came for his run up, I would back up or walk across my crease and try to play a shot. My coach said it was weird that I would do that but he said that the longer I stayed in the middle, I would slowly move back until I eventually took guard on middle stump. It just seems to be a habbit and I don't seem to notice doing it.

I have seen it done to big turning off spinners, but it's stance that will get you in big trouble when you face better quicks.

I do have some trouble facing the fast bolwers sometimes but other than that it has worked rather well for me. I'm not sure if I should try and fix it or not.

Your toes should be on middle stump in your guard if you take it on middle.
