Rahul Dravid has been nicknamed "The Wall", "Mr. Depndable", "Mr. Reliable" etc. With a batsman like Sachin Tendulkar in the team, Rahul Dravid's greatness is shown by the fact that he has earned such nicknames. He has been a run machine for India and has always been the an whom India have relied upon in times of trouble. He is getting close to 10,000 test runs at an average of 55 and has already amasses 10,000+ ODI runs at an average of just below 40. When it comes to commitment he is second to none. He has always been the 'perfect' team man. He has sacrificed his own position at no 3 for accomodating Gnguly or Yuvraj or opening when the tea needed solidity at the top. He is one of those few players who have a better overseas avaerage than at home. He has one of the most solid techniques in world cricket at this moment and thats why he has been nicknamed as the wall. His temperment is also very good and he has always given a 100% in whatever he has done. He is also one of the best slip fielders the game has produced. PLayers like Siddhu and Jadeja have hauled his greatness and Siddhu even said "Rahul Dravid will walk on glass if the team requires him to do so." That speaks volumes about the person who stepped down from captaincy after a successful tour of England. However, he is among the very few Indians who was ready to give up the chair of captaincy as not many Indians like to give up their post.

They say nice guys finish first, according to me Rahul Dravid is the nice guy who is not yet finished. At 35, he still has a lot to offer to Indian cricket.

What do you make of him? Do you agree that he is the perfect role model and the perfect coaching guide for a young cricketer?
I surely do think so.

There are a lot of aspects about him that kids should take notice of. He has great concentration, a defence to die for and can play some rather elegant strokes. The one thing that kids wouldn't want themselves on him is his footwork. I'm not trying to be negative nancy as he is a great player, but a lack of footwork, being trapped on the crease has got him into trouble and on the truer bouncier surfaces he has been unsure whether to back or foward, but apart from that i can't see why not.

Also, being so defensive he does get bogged down and he is unlikely to change the course of a game with his batting style. But he is the kind of guy you want in your team (but you don't want your top 7 to bat the way he does).

See you later Gilly! Thanks for the memories!

you are guys are forgetting that he was out of form. Otherwise he doesn't get bogged down too often. He can score runs faster than Dhoni and co when needed. But yeah you don't want a guy like him in the team when he is out of form. An out of form Sehwag won't hurt as much.

Oh noo don;t get me wrong. Dravid is one of THE best India has seen, and one of the best in the world. I just wouldn't want my top 7 to have the same style as him of course.

See you later Gilly! Thanks for the memories!

Technique wise, I wouldn't say Dravid is the perfect coaching manual. Kallis for me. The way Dravid brings down his bat for balls angling into him is very horrible in my eyes. Other than that, his technique is good.

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

How about the other things, such as his mental toughness, his preparation, his ablility to make bowlers bowl to him and how to put a price tag on his wicket? You have to look at all aspects of his game, nobody is perfect.

I'm a Dravid fan and as a role model there are few better , if any , in the game today.  A tremendous batsman , his long vigils at the crease have probably saved more matches for India than they've won though.
He knows his own game and his teammates know what they'll get from him. He's a true professional and the perfect guy in the ranks when you've a real battle on your hands.

What about the other aspects? Like the way he presents himself, his concentration, stamina etc..i want you to look at all aspects of his game and then comment..not that Kallis is bad, he has probably got a better technique than Dravid now but still..

i have nothing against dravid.i admire him..he is up there with the greats. but your question was about being a coaching manual..whihc i would like to go with kallis among the current players. i am not sure what do you mean by concentration and stamina exactly? True, kallis has not got a double ton yest and we can give dravid more marks on it. But, technically Kallis is righ up there
