Hello everyone,
This is very much similiar to Sledgers "Rate the player Relay" thread but in this thread we will be replacing the players for individual innings or team performances so I'll get you guys started first one . First Inning- Australia VS Sri Lanka WC 96'Final The reason I picked this one is because it was my very first WC final to watch and it was amazing The Sri Lankans won it very easily and I was very delighted to see that win it may not been an exciting match but I really enjoyed it. Next Inning- South Africa vs Australia(World record match) EDIT:Remember you can Rate Inning or Performance!, and erformance can be judged on Batsmen,Bowler,Wicket keeper, even a catch by a fielder. SA/Aus 2006 will live long in the memory , unless you like games where bowlers play a part too! Brilliant knock by Ricky Ponting set up a massive total of 433 and all South African supporters were pretty deflated!
Then came Herschelle Gibbs , ably supported by Graeme Smith! Gibbs battered the Aussie attack to all parts of Gauteng for a swashbuckling 180-odd and as we all know , SA went onto win. For one day lovers , this was the ultimate! Now rate Matthew Hayden's 380 vs Zimbabwe.... |

Matthew Hayden's 380 vs Zimbabwe was a pretty amazing acheivement the best after Lara's seeing as his test batting average against Zimbabwe is around the 250 mark but then again the Zimbabwe side he was facing wasn't that stron I would still rate it a good innings, but not a fantastic one.

An amazing feat, Anil Kumble became only the second person in the history of test cricket do that and that against their arch rivals Pakistan, he won the match single handedly

Bangladesh's score of 427 against the world's best side made most people sit up. Expected to win both tests in a canter , Australia showed signs of genuine fatigue after the exertions against SA , both home and away. On batting friendly pitches , they struggled to knock over the Bangaldeshi's , but did eventually manage to win both matches.
Still , it was a gutsy performance by the home side and showed their continuing improvement in test cricket. Next : Andrew Flintoff in last year's Ashes Edited by Sledger |

One of the greatest individual performances by an all-rounder in a test series apart from Sobers maybe, before the series had started he was under pressure with claims that he was unfit but when he knocked over them stumps and smashed the ball to cover boundaries the tide had turned.I myself enjoyed his ashes campaign even though Australia lost and if he plays in this years ashes I wouldnt be suprised for him to do what he did before. It was an excitong game which we could not see because it was not telecasted over here but Jaysuriya the old man scored back to back 150's and was in prime form ,they were most lucky to get a team like the Dutch ,they wouldnt have got close had it been Australi or SAF . Glenn McGrath's 8 wicket was just unbelievable! It was the best I've seen him. He bowled with great line and length, his variations were sublime. Did you know that Kasprowicz apologised to McGrath for taking two wickets in the innings, not allowing McGrath to take 10 wickets in the innings! Next: Brian Lara's 400. |

Brian Lara (400):The greatest test innings by a batsman ever not only because it was the highest score but his shot selection was terrific timing each ball to perfection just toiling with the english bowlers making it look so easy he truly is the legend of big scores 8 double tons hes hit including a triple and a quadriple possibly my favourite innings by a batsman in test cricket. VVS Laxman (281 v Australia at Eden Gardens) Arguably 1 of the greatest ever test innings by an Indian & probably the most beautiful to watch (even from an Australian point of view). The Man with the Golden wrists well & truly lived up to his Name with effortless cuts, drives & glances to all parts of the ground. He not only wore the australian bowlers down, but broke their spirits, and turned what should have been a cakewalk australian victory into a complete nightmare for the tourists. I distinctly remember watching this innings with two differing views, 1 being a nightmare, the 2nd feeling grateful that i'd seen such a magnificent innings. You are so not right here AK!!!!! I have seen 50's that were better knocks than Lara's 400. Great innings aren't all about the final total , but about the situation , pitch and attack. Lara's knock was special in that it broke the world record , but I've seen countless innings that were far better. As you get older , you'll pick up on the technical side of cricket and the skills in batting under extremely adverse conditions. Stop looking at the amount of runs accummalated and appreciate the batting prowess and all the subtleties a great batsman brings to an innings. |

You are right. Anybody who can stay on the crease for few days, can break the record. Anbody can play better shots than that and make 50 or 100.
Instead of watching him 400 runs, you can just watch a guy make 100 with great shots from around 6-80 balls. Tell me AK what would you prefer watching? |

Well if anyone can stay at the crease for a few days and break the record why aren't we seeing a lot of large scores being made???? Like why aren't we seeing a lot of triple centries lately?? I mean afterall you said that anyone can do that.........so why aren't we seeing a lot of large scores in test matches.....why aren't there more triple centuries?????? Personally I think that batting for a few days requires a lot of concentration and it's not always that easy to concentrate and bat for long periods. Anyone can come out and swing the bat a few times and make a quick fifty or something.....but the real test of concentration comes when you are at that crease, batting in that hot sun, for VERY LONG periods, especially in a last test match of the series knowing that your opponents have won all the test matches so far in the series and you are trying your best to make sure that this test match would not allow your opponents to have a clean sweep.

You know even the great Gary Sobers said "True greatness, in the final analysis, lies in the ability to bat brilliantly for an extended period and to do so both at home and abroad against bowlers of outstanding quality". If anyone thinks that this innings is not worth being called a "good innings"....or for those who thinks anyone can bat for few days and make that score......I will re- write this this quote making certain parts of it bold........to emphasize my point that this innings was a good one. "True greatness, in the final analysis, lies in the ability to bat brilliantly for an extended period and to do so both at home and abroad against bowlers of outstanding quality". Edited by daisy77 |

Andrew Symonds 143* vs. Pakistan 2003: The Defining moment of Andrew Symonds' career. For 3/4 years he had been a constant under acheiver on the ODI circuit. The selectors gave him 1 last chance to shine and he didn't let them down. After coming in with Australia in a tight spot at 3/50 odd, symonds walked in knowing he would have to step up and play the innings of his life, which he aptly did. So often has he gone out to bat and just swung away from the start, this time, he built a platform, and then unleashed the fury on an unsuspecting Pakistan bowling attack. Vicious drives, and devasting slogs all over the park, leaving the bowlers no hope whatsoever, as he turned what looked to be sub 250 total, into 310. Well Done Symmo!!! a truly magnificent ODI innings!!! Next Up (lets give the bowlers a chance hey) Richard Hadlee, 15/123 vs. Australia 1985/1986 (Brisbane) |

Getting the thread back on track once again.
Although I haven't seen Richard Hadlee's innings of 15 wickets, I'm sure that it must have been great bowling with good line and length abd kept up to his reputation of a good bowler. Please don't laugh at it. Next: Rahul Dravid's 270 versus Pakistan. |

With respect this says nothing at all about the innings - the same can be said for a number of entries on these types of threads. I suggest you research the performance of a player if you didn't actually SEE it and then post in your own words. Simply put , don't post if you have no idea about that innings/bowling feat. Tough one Claps , in those days tests played that didn't involve England weren't televised live in the UK.
I remember the Test though and saw Hadlee bowl a sustained spell of incredibly taxing fast bowling. On a surface that had nice bounce and a little seam movement , he continually had the Australians feeling for the ball outside off stump. None of the batsmen were comfortable , but Hadlee's figures were astonishing in that there was little support from the other end! At that time I think it was my first experience of a man singlehandedly winning a test match against top class opposition. Hadlee's skill was widely appreciated . What struck me about this match was how he sustained his pace and accuracy throughout the match. He was supremely fit and that action was a delight to watch - he was poetry in motion! It has to rank with the great bowling stints in test history. Along with Laker in '56 and Holding's demolition of England in the mid 80's . That he did it away from home makes it even more impressive. A true great , Richard Hadlee. |
