Shaoib Malik is the most successful ODI batsmen at no. 3 since July 2004.

Beating the likes of Ponting in terms of total runs scored, batting average and strike rate during this period, Shoaib is the new force to watch in the ODI batting arena.

His records is almost identical while batting first or chasing and winning matches for his team.

Had he converted his two scores of 90s against India into 100s, he would have been ahead of ponting (4 100s during this period) in this space as well

Comapred to batsmen batting at all positions during this period he is among the top 10 standing at, where else???? No. 3.

Best ODI batsmen since July, 2004
(Min 30 ODI innings)
Batsman Innings Runs Average 100s/ 50s

Michael Clarke 41 1453 48.43 1/ 11
Inzamam-ul-Haq 38 1434 46.26 0/ 14
Shoaib Malik 41 1677 44.13 3/ 14
Rahul Dravid 48 1747 43.68 3/ 16
Kumar Sangakkara 53 1985 42.23 1/ 18
Marvan Atapattu 40 1537 41.54 1/ 14
Ricky Ponting 45 1703 41.54 4/ 10

You always discuss those who perform, you are again catching stomach bugs, pls look at the stats , Pakistani or no pakistani, scored against mainly india which by substandard or a second string bowling attack, but his stats could make anyone proud!

3 reasons!

- since this Pakistani batsmen has been in top form since 2004
- He is at his best against India
- I am also a Pakistani

Why cant you stand it if a Pakistani player is performing well?????

He is being praised world wide, i quoted these stats from Cricinfo, where they were posted by an India Columnist.

Thank you for saying that ANIL KUMBLE!

I thought Ponting was the best number 3 in recent times.

In tests, definitely, Ponting is no. 1

But in ODI's Malik is slightly ahead of him

Here is what Shoaib Malik did to South Africa in just 9 balls....

he was batting at 42 of 32 balls at the end of the 48th over and you wont believe, he was not out for 82 off 41 balls after 2 overs...
his next 42 runs came off just 9 deliveries....

& who were the bwolers... Shaun Pollock & Jaques Kallis

One of the most aggressive batting and hard hitting displays in ODI history
End of over 48 (4 runs) Pakistan 235/5 (RR: 4.90)
JH Kallis 9-1-33-1 (2w) - Pavilion End
Shoaib Malik 42* (32b 4x4 1x6) Abdul Razzaq 2* (2b)

48.1 Pollock to Shoaib Malik, one run, driven to wider cover
48.2 Pollock to Abdul Razzaq, legbye: one run, full toss tries to ducks
under it, ball hits the pads Pollock goes to appeal for lbw but no
luck
48.3 Pollock to Shoaib Malik, SIX, big one, fuller lenght, well timed
drive over long on for six
48.4 Pollock to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, driven beautifully to mid wicket for
another four and that is 50 for Malik
48.5 Pollock to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, again pitched up, this timed heaved
it to mid wicket for another four
48.6 Pollock to Shoaib Malik, SIX, on the stumps, Malik gets down on one
knee and hammers the ball over the long off fence, cracking shot
that!

End of over 49 (22 runs) Pakistan 257/5 (RR: 5.24)
SM Pollock 10-3-46-1 - College End
Abdul Razzaq 2* (3b) Shoaib Malik 63* (37b 6x4 3x6)

49.1 Kallis to Abdul Razzaq, OUT: Gone! full toss, heaved in the air to
mid wicket, well taken by Pollock

Pakistan 257/6, Partnership of 26
Abdul Razzaq c Pollock b Kallis 2 (4b 0x4 0x6)
Shoaib Malik 63* (37b 6x4 3x6) JH Kallis 9.1-1-33-2 (2w)

Rashid Latif walks in
49.2 Kallis to Rashid Latif, one run, plays with soft hand behind point
and gets off the mark
49.3 Kallis to Shoaib Malik, SIX, big hit again, heaved away over long
on for a six
49.4 Kallis to Shoaib Malik, SIX, full toss this time cracks it to over
mid wicket for another six
49.5 Kallis to Shoaib Malik, SIX, fuller again and again a big hit, this
time clear the square leg fence for the third successive six
49.6 Kallis to Shoaib Malik, one run, pitched up again, went for the big
one again this time got the inner edge to Boucher
End of over 50 (20 runs) Pakistan 277/6 (RR: 5.54)
JH Kallis 10-1-53-2 (2w) - Pavilion End
Shoaib Malik 82* (41b 6x4 6x6) Rashid Latif 1* (1b)

I watched the highlights of that match. If anyone wants I could find it and post it here. That was an awesome inning. Pakistan were at around 205 after 43 overs. And suddenly after 7 overs they're at 277.

So, anyone can hit 42 of 9 balls if there is only a few overs left and with plenty of wickets in hand. Imagine if Australia were 1 for 250 after 48 overs, Guys like Gilchrist, Ponting, Martyn, Symonds, Hussey could hit a 6 of every ball.

Seems as if Malik is coming of age.... from what i've seen of him, he's always had the potential... and finally he's realised it....

Nice to see Pakistan find a solid no.3, seems to me as if over the last few years they have struggled to find some1 to fill the position until now... correct me if i'm wrong though....

Crownmethod, how about using a bit of common sense before posting such rediculous comments....
