Extremely tragic incident, I didn't knew about him earlier but it appears that he was a bright future England prospect. May his soul RIP and condolences to his family...

Sad news indeed and touching South Africa as well - his Dad has coached the Titans the last couple of years. Just 23 years old and quite possibly breaking into the England one day side this very year - a tragic waste , his family must be devastated.

RIP. Saw him quite closely in the BPL earlier this year - he seemed a mature player at a very young age. Tragic.

Never seen hiim play but its always saddening to hear of people dying. Its one thing I fear most in life, death - otherwise, I fear nothing, well, and being hit in the groin!

Become a ghost?? There's no right and wrong proof of persons turning to ghost after death, so that's a pretty bad gamble to take mate.

Then again I doubt the Qatari team is exactly outstanding... Btw I'm new here. Hi etc :p |

I agree with Brad, although 200 is a good effort, Qatar team can't be much good. I remember hitting a blistering century in school cricket. I'm not that good a batsman to do that against good bowling attacks.

can any one answer me on this?
The 4th day of Pakistan v Sri lanka recent test was extended by 30 mins when Pakistan had 2 wickets in hand and the umpires thought they can have a result in the next 30 mins, indeed they got it too. (There was a good chance of rain on the last day) My question is, IF Pakistan had survived those 30 mins then will these 30 mins be deducted from the final days play? If yes, then fine, but if the answer is NO, then what about all those games which ended in a draw with the last wicket standing, or the recent drawn test between IND and WI with scores level, why don't they extend the game in those situations? obviously they'll get a result in extra 30 mins in those cases too. So why they don't extend on a 5th day?

Sam i think the differences is that they wont deduct 30 mins from next day they will deduct the overs that were used maybe i might be wrong.

Extensions are a logical method of finishing a match early and giving players and supporters a free day (or days). The rules of cricket for the final day are simple , when the stipulated number of overs have been bowled the match is over. It's perfectly fair and both sides will know what is required to either win or save a match - it has given rise to some of the most entertaining finishes Sam !

So we have a champions league where 6 teams from 5 nations play qualifiers to get those 2 spots in the main draw, and 4 teams from one nation get direct entry into the main draw!!! What kind of a "champions" league is this??? looks more like 'Mini-IPL' to me.

So finally the plans are been taken forward of 2 IPL in 1 year(Champions league) Great 4 teams from Indian why not put 3-4 also in qualifiers to get one more or maybe 2 more Indian teams. I personally think champions league is a great tournament compare to IPL but again BCCI showing interested and destroying it.

Regarding DRS and BCCI's reluctance has again been blown out of proportion , with some super moronic comments from Tony Greig. He spoke truck load of nonsense spitting venom against BCCI for not adopting DRS at MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture.
Come to think of it , coming from someone who relinquished England Captaincy to embrace Packer World Series, someone who was jumping up and down in now defunct ICL - Indian Cricket League sitting in commentary box raving about T20 domestic tournaments and its future. What happened to him now? To me it looks like sour grapes episode with him.Anyway, what's the use talking about someone who does not have proper reasoning about anything he talks. So about the DRS , India does not want it , just because they feel it is erroneous ( which it is , in my humble opinion) and they very well have the right to oppose it through 1 vote. They have clearly stated that they will accept the technology if it is accurate & acceptable. I don't know if someone watched the hawk-eye in Wimbledon review showing one of the serve as clearly 6 inches inside when it had clearly pitched about outside of the line.Even some of the current DRS ball tracking looks absolute horrible when shown on TV.Indian bore the brunt of losing to iffy decisions in one series (SL Series) , and they don't want that stupid 2 review per innings to cripple them. Think of it , first 2 reviews lost closely just because Umpire had initially opposed the decision ... you lose any more right to review even if you know decision is wrong.I think Umpires too do get influenced a lot, and give OUT to certain decision, because they feel team has reviews left and let them review it.To me the model is creating lot of doubts, why not simplify and Umpires/Third Umpires have the luxury of technology and take a quick call. Now all those fans who blame BCCI for not accepting DRS should think , why none of the other Board Member did not ask to table it.Why they did not put even a voice, let alone fight for it. If someone says it is the financial power ( might or whatever ) , then I would say shame on those Boards who buckle under pressure, don't they have a spine to stand on what they think is right. |

The year end revised ICC rankings are out, India drop down to 5th thanks to two 4-0 series whitewashes they suffered, pakistan's good work over the last two years has shown up, they overtake India for the 4th spot.
Unfortunately Pakistan don't have too much of test cricket in the coming year... 2 tests against Zimbabwe in December'12 then 3 against south Africa in February'13 and then 2 against west Indies in July'13. Most surprising change I found was Australia overtaking South Africa for the 2nd spot, but then if we see AUS have actually been doing well in test matches, and ODI's it is only now that all of a sudden it looks like the wheels are coming off. while as expected Eng further strengthened their position at the top.

Should not be long before that changes mate by the year end, everything will in place for India.Though they can't reach the top , but they should be back to top 4 by then.
The two 4-0 losses has had it effect and rightly so, that is why I say rankings are always a true reflection of standings. India needs lot of things to go their favor - First they need England to win against SA by 1 test margin ( not more than that). - Second they need to beat NZ 2-0 , and - Third to beat ENG 4-0 ..... Oops a tall task, even if they do this they will be at level points with Aussies at 116 at top while ENG would fall to 115. Even if one test result goes against them, they won't be in a good position. So task is impossible , but if they do ... I would say a well deserved. |

India are expected to do well at home after having a very tough time of it abroad, however, they'll still have to play some good cricket and win, if they can't do well then they are in deeper trouble... it's everything to lose and nothing to gain for India really... I also don't see India winning all 6 tests at home this winter, in fact this time it's an unusual August start to the season, if Rain is around then NZL may actually like these conditions. I've never seen a home series in Aug-Sep in India!
![]() Nonetheless India should do better than what they did last year, surely it can't go worse.

After a long break, I switched back to cricket and who do I see in the commentary box, a moron. As if it was not enough of his same old boring worn out lines he immediately started to show his lack of intelligence (which is quite obvious these days) by immediately saying that the catch was cleanly taken even before it was referred to third umpire and he could see it clearly.Went on to say that Shewag should go to feilder, ask if that is cleanly taken and walk off and spoke about player integrity.First of all I don't know if Shewag who stood ground or if umpire wanted to refer it/recheck.Even if he did, nothing wrong as he has doubts. It is obvious that in such cases where it is doubtful if the catch was taken cleanly, majority of the times batsman gets the benefit of the doubt. When decision was given in batsman's favor, can of worms started flowing out, the usual things started with Tony ... I mean absolute nonsense (which he is good at).His logic, As India do not go for DRS, their players should not even stand in such a situation and question. Kind of started saying lot of rubbish.... Well Tony,in the same vein, why is it that now you are not supporting the technology? A person who talks in length about technology should he be happy. Why is he not supporting the technology? The decision was given by Third Umpire , isn't it? Thank god, Sanath intervened after few replays to put an end to his counterpart's non stop blabbering, Sanath took time and said in such close cases , even the fielder will find it hard to know if it was cleanly caught, sometimes even the fielder will miss if it touched the ground by a whisker,as he was diving.I can vouch for Sanath's eyesight to be atleast 100 times better than the cribbing fellow. You can see the difference between them and where the correct sense exist. Tony,Please retire!

So now India's target is Tony because what he said was true :)
Sehwag always knew that he will get away it if he does not walk and he did :) Tony was really correct when you really hate technology why beg to use it? to get away with it? WOW nice! |

I have already posted about Tony's illogical stuff recently in the Shoutbox topic twice, but after posting I see that he can't even give a proper commentary forget his biased opinions. In 27.2 and 47.2 ball of Indian innings, both these times ball had clearly touched the ground before ballooning up in air, both these times I could hear his utmost happiness and excitement and declaring them out, only to realize later and get embraced in front of fellow commentator. Then he keeps giving wrong commentary, for example he said well caught , when the ball had flown after keeper had got his hand to it.
He was trying to somehow bring BCCI into picture couple of times and tried his to taunt them. The best he could do was to make a fool out of himself, maybe he got snubbed by some commentary deal due to his link up in now defunct ICL. Maybe he had put some portion of his fortune on ICL.So I did some googling, and found this gold dust http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2008/mar/18greig.htm Former England captain Tony Greig tells Rahul Bhatia what the Indian Cricket League is about, where the BCCI's Indian Premier League is likely headed, and why he would love to have the Indian team play in the ICL but can't. Greig, who featured in 58 Tests and 22 one-dayers for England, played a big part in Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket. He is now actively involved with the ICL, as its executive board member. Excerpts: If the England Cricket Board is thinking of starting their own league, doesn't that make things more complicated? Of course! Let me go back a little bit. I've always been interested in the rights of players, and it comes from World Series Cricket. When I was a cricketer, I think we were seriously abused by the establishment of the day. And when an entrepreneur turned up -- I was 32 years of age -- firstly, I had to secure myself, and second, you were forced to justify, rather like now, justify your decision. And, of course, the justification for my decision was that this was going to be good for all the players. Because if there was some competition out there, and they were offering us more money. Now I know , he is suffering a sour grapes syndrome. |

Sam, in regards to CL qualifier. Fact is, its run by Indians, and if they tweak things slightly in favour of themselves, so be it, its their money, they do whatever they want to with it. Who doesn't like it simply should not have anything to do with it. I actually like these Indian attitude in the way they run IPL and such. If you can't live by our rules, just stay out!

Well I just posted about a Rising Star probably in James Taylor , suddenly the thought crossed my mind ... I don't understand what these commentators say about Virat Kohli ...
saying him as rising star... maybe they have been in hibernation too long, funny
he is already established himself as one of the best batsman in ODI (
forget last few centuries) even otherwise he has always been in higher
40's average and right from post World Cup, he has been better than anyone else. Can't believe the word 'rising' being used... he already is
one of the best.

Well, its currently the time of year you'd hate being a West Indian resident. A tropical storm watch is out for Islands surrounding the one i'm living on. It has winds currently at 50 MPH. It has not yet landed on my shores but should do so in the next 4 - 5 hours. It will leave plenty rain which may cause floodings and land slides. The Winds are not that threatening at that speed, we've seen a lot worse than that.
It should be a hurricane by the time it gets to Jamaica which maybe on Monday. This system is moving quite fast, but think the Windies/Kiwi test match maybe over in time. |
