I think probably just practice mate, it's pretty rare that any problem with accuracy needs anything more than that. Something else I've read somewhere, which I thoguht was a very good point, was when you bowl your quicker ball don't just run up the same then whip your arm through faster because you're likely to lose it. Instead, speed up your entire action, right from the start of the runup, by a very small amount, which as well as keeping control will also rush the batasman a little bit because he's used to your normal runup.

you're called a spinner for a reason, not just so you can run in and bowl slow. because you're meant to spin the ball.

^ I think you've misinterpreted the question. Obviously as a spinner you want to spin the ball, it's whether you give priority to greater turn, or better accuracy, rather than accuracy instead of turn.

That should be the attitude of all spin bowling coaches!

I was bowling in the nets today and was ripping it a mile but not very accurate BUT the leggie in the net next to me was far slower spun it less but was a lot more accurate and we both beat the bat a lot but perhaps he caused more trouble.

Probably in five years you'll be as accurate as him and he still won't be apinning it any more than he does now. Don't be tempted into boring 'containing' bowling now just because your figures will be better in the short-term, allow yourself to develop as a bowler

Yeah but if he progresses, he won't progress very far if he can't turn it much. So when you become more accurate, you'll be better than him.

firstly 70ds, i thort you prided yourself on your accuracy
prehaps you should find a happy medium
eg, dont try and rip it every ball, save that as a variation, get your accuracy back and then gradually try and turn it more

well actually PF, ever since I changed my action I've been doing exactly the opposite. My new action is starting to settle in and I'm slowly finding the right spot more.
Your last line I disagree with. If I try and get accuracy quickly then I will have to change my action again and after an action change that has taken 4 months to get right I do not wat that at all. |

It dependes on what quality cricket thee play, i find in club cricket(bowling leg spin) if tha toss the ball up with as much spin as posible and try and land the ball somewere near the leg stump, as long as its not 2 short
thee gets plenty of wickets, dont worry about a getting hit out of ground batters are reluctant to do that with a stumper there. spin is more important |

one way to stop bowling short is by putting the left
arm(if u are a right arm bowler) high up in the air) By doing this there is less chance of bowling short. At least it works with me! |

i'll try that, i find that spinning the ball hard is better because i get drift when i rip it

how much of turn do u usually get?
I too get drift especially with my googlys as they almost turn 90 degrees, usually around 60-70 degrees. If you want to get lots of turn with the googly u would have to release it from the back of your ahnd as much as possible. I'd suggest when bowling the googly that you should bend your back to the ground as much as possible and hence the ball releases a lot from the back of your hand. It also pitches at good lenght most of the time when i bowl it and as you will guess its really effective. The only negative point about it is that it will be abvious to the batsman that i'm bowling it as i bend my back but nevertheless batsman still have trouble playing it. |

warnie, warnie's coach, monty and montie's coach all say that you should try and spin the ball hard and accuracy will come with time. People have also said that when he was young warnie could spin it a mile but was very inncaurate now look at him

Good thought that. I'm sure if you had the talent that would be the best strategy. In highly competitive cricket a leg-spinner must be able to spin the bowl or else they are redundant and can be replaced by an ordinary accurate off-spinner.

at the moment i'm spinning every ball at about 75-80 degrees. Believe me i am not lying. And i'm getting the ball to bounce really high too. I guess its because my style of legspin is different from most leggies

80 degrees, good luck with that
youll never get wickets
youll prob no ball quite alot because the ball wont pass the line of the crease
youll be bowling ridicoulous wides because if you are pitching it on off stump its just going to go wide.
you must be bowling it very floatily and slowly, because the laws of phisics show that a ball cannot possibly turn that much from a reasonble pace, no mater how much spin your getting.
you say its bouncing. that just sounds ridiclously untrue, because if the ball is turning 80 degrees the main way its going to turn that much is by hitting the seam, and that in its self would cause it do die, not bounce.
there is such a thing as "too much" spin, simply because the batsman will just completly miss the ball, rather than edging it.
your also not going to get any bowleds because if your turning it that much your going to have to pitch it about 3 metres outside leg to bowl anyone. And thats just stupid.
Overall, im not saying your lying, even though i find it unlikley
but i bet that im better than you and i turn it about 1 and a 1/2 foot (ish) as my stock ball.
call that bragging if you like, but then again read you post, because that is exremly braggy Edited by Pietersen Fan - 07 March 2007 at 5:58pm |

thats a lie, I think this boy needs to revise his angles a bit better, my name is tongue in cheek, nobody can spin it 70 degrees. the Gatting ball was at most 60.

exactly, the Chanderpaul ball was about 70 degrees though. Thats the biggest turner in the history of cricket. (I think) I hate it when people say stupid statements. people take you, I and Fishcake a lot more seriously because we are realistic with our abilities.

We should just ignore them if they start saying anything else that is stupid. Him and AK both say they can spin it almost at right angles which is obviously a load of rubbish.
