Border was good, a real fighter but Gavaskar was arguably the most technically complete batsman there has ever been.

Border ended his career as the most capped, most runs, most catches, 2nd most tons, most times captaining......not bad, he made a lot of milestones, he was also a nifty left arm orthodox bowler, good enough to get 11 poles in one match. A deadly arm from mid wicket and a very good fieldsmen, turned out to be a good skipper and was the only world class player in Australia for a while to.

Border played in a side in which he was the only one scoring runs, he had soo much pressure on him and as captain to even more..why do you kids always look at stats it is soooo frustrating.

Don't judge by stats when asked a question like this one.

It is who is better, not the most successful. Border's achievements were amazing considering the side he was in and Sunil was very technically correct.

Thats why you never think non-Australian cricket players are better than Australian Cricket players.

Nope,,,I never said who was better, I asked for justification of what you are saying...if you do not have any then your opinion is virtually invalid.

Gavaskar was a better sportsman when the umpire put the finger up on a not out decision Gavaskar said the batsman could stay.

They had already lost the game anyway, but the Indian's did not go for it which was disappointing. Sunil is argubly the best defensive player in history, but the kids these days would not watch him I'm afraid.

Border was a typical Aussie fighter who played when Australian Cricket had a lot of scandals, for example South African Rebel Tour. Allan border led a team of no-hopers to the 1987 world cup and is one of the reasons Australia are so dominant today, and he averaged over 50, was a good fielder and a great leader. Sunil Gavasker played in an era of fine indian cricketers and batted when the pressure was off. I rate Border as the better player
In memory of Malcolm Denzil Marshall 1958-1999 The greatest fast bowler in Test Cricket history.

You don't believe me? I read in the paper today, it said, Matthew Hayden became the 2nd fastest player to score 7000 runs, just short of Sunil's record.

Let's see how many runs Hayden makes in 100 Tests. Lara leads with 8852 I think. Dravid is second with 8492, Gavaskar is third, and Sachin is forth.

I would go with Border over Gavaskar because of some of the reasons that others mentioned and because of my own personal preference.
