The schedule for the super eights are seriously messed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tomorrow the west indies is supposed to play the aussies but I don't think that's how it is supposed to be according to the ticket brochure......or the fixtures that was posted up in the "fixtures" thread. Since when does the winner of one group play the winner of another group?? That's really wrong....why should the winner of group D which is west indies be playing the winner of group A which is Australia???

Not really Daisy! Remember, the Windies have to play everyteam except the Irish so it doesn't matter in which order they play the 2nd place of this group or the 1st place!

And for some people, you might see d2 on the fixture for the windies and they are playing the Aussies. D2 doesn't mean the team that finished 2nd in group d. The ICC had already given the seeded teams a tag.

Hey Bondy, must thank you for breaking your team mates bones! It will just make it that little more easier for the Aussies to thump the Kiwi's!Wink

What a disaster that was!!! Vincent was in form after his hundred against Canada, and was high on confidence after his return to international cricket.

Finally we find a decent opening partnership and its broken. Let's hope Marshall can do the job he's intended to do.
Good one Graham!

Injuries were always going to play a part in such a long tournament , but the Black Caps seem to have copped a lot !  Vincent can be very destructive , Marshall just isn't the same sort of player. Fleming's role will take on extra significance now if they're to get the fast starts we've seen from them in 2007.

So the tournament proper gets underway today.  West Indies are up against the form side in Australia - if they were to spring a surprise it could open up the entire competition and give hope to all - even England!

Not such good news for South Africa though. Apparently the ground hasn't power and the pitch is awful after heavy rain. They've also been unable to practise, so tomorrow's toughie against Sri Lanka will have them rather worried.  A big game for both sides then , but that extra 2 points give some breathing space to the Lankans.

SA vs SL will be a huge match for the Proteas. If they lose, then their confidence will be severely dashed, and their performance against the other Super 8 teams will certainly be affected. Sort of a make-or-break for SA, while SL haven't really come up against tough opposition as yet in the tournament. If SL lose, they can bounce back far easier than SA can. (note the disclaimer again)

Big match today, West indies have a good history going in their favour, they have been competitive in cruntch games against ausies, so a real exciting game at hand.
Lara's role so far has been subdued, now being a big match player it will be a match winning performance required from him. Only formula that works against ausies is attack, so we have to see how much pressure windies put on the ausies tonight! My Money for sure on ausies in this match!
so far so good!

Do agree with you there Mojo. Mind you, if by some miracle the Aussies lose tonight, they still have to beat NZ, SL and SA and that could prove difficult for the Aussies if they lose one or more of these matches to progress through to the finals. Boy, i dont hope any of that happens!

It strikes me that some sides have been dealt a better hand than others when you consider the venues for each fixture in the super 8's. Just look at the number of times each side plays at a certain place and comment on who you feel has been looked after well or not so well.

    Team           Antigua         Guyana         Grenada       Barbados

Australia             3                    0                    2                    1

West Indies         2                   1                    1                    2

South Africa       0                    3                    2                    1

Sri Lanka            1                    2                    3                    0

New Zealand      2                    1                    3                    0

Ireland                0                    3                    1                    2

England             2                     1                    0                   3

Bangladesh       2                     1                   0                    3

It seems to me that SA have drawn the short straw. Guyana's weather must be a major concern , a few no-results could seriously damage SA's chance of a semifinal birth.

Australia , on the other hand seem to have the best of it - that win over SA might have been worth a lot more than just the two points.

I think Aus ,Nzl ,Srl and Win will go through .SAF are strong contenders but they lack a slow bowler and their bowlers havent been good enough at the death .

I fancy Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the Windies for the semis. They have stood out as teams on form so far, althoguh of course its hard to say at this stage where each team has had only one serious test at most. Unfortunately i can't see England finishing above any of the proper test nations, and I wouldn't be all that surprised to see them beaten by Bangladesh either.

Weather could play a significant part CM - SA playing three matches in Guyana could cost them dearly , rain is a constant threat.

Australia 40-1 and that gentleman , Adam Gilchrist walks again. 8 overs gone and already Ponting has cleared the ropes - they look a confident side and the hosts must put the ball in the right areas if they're going to chase a reachable total.

Playing on a full size ground is certainly making a difference to the way we are batting, there is a lot more working of the ball.

well hayden's played magnificently already passed the 150 mark in just about 140 balls! He's been in fine form lately.

I thought Samuels chucked that quicker one he sent down outside off which Hayden guided to the third man boundary.
