Hmm, me to. I had tipped them but maybe New Zealand are a better bet. Still, there's a long way to go still

Comprehensive victory by the Aussies!! They have proved why they are one of the best teams in this world cup!!!!! The west indies batsmen really failed us. Only 2 windies batsmen actually performed ~ Lara and Ramdin. A nice bit of batting by Lara. I think Chanderpaul was given a bad out though. He was given LBW but I don't think that ball was going on to hit the stumps though. Oh well.....add salt to the wounds of the windies!!! Anyway the aussies really outplayed us. It seemed like a batting wicket and our batsmen were supposed to get in on the runs which they didn't do. I don't know what Gayle was doing today though. If anyone knows please tell me.....his innings today didn't make any sense!

my goodness, that was one cracker of a game, good job SA for keeping SL batsmen on their heals, good job to Murali and MALINGA for creating an turnaround that coudlve been one of the best ever, and wow, Malinga 4 balls, 4 wickets, amazing, And WI really need to fight harder than they did today, thats all i can say, or else they have no chance

Yeah you are right about West Indies...they DESPERATELY NEED to fighter harder than they did today if they want to make it to the semis and hopefully the finals. Good game today for SA. Amazing bowling by Malinga. Those South Africans were probably sitting at the edge of their seats while Malinga and Vaas were bowling the overs to the end of the match with a number 11 and Robin Pieterson at the wicket. 4 wickets in 4 balls was true AMAZING !!!!!!! I have to say that Malinga's hair looks awful but the man can definately bowl!!!!!!!!! I know a hattrick is 3 wickets in 3 balls but what do you call 4 wickets in 4 balls??? LOL Has anyone in the world cup ever done this before????????? I highly doubt it...

To my knowledge i dont recall anyone taking 4 wickets off 4 balls in the WC but it may have happend. It is actually called a double hat trick. The name doesnt make sense, i know, but thats what they call it.......And while im here, i might send out the challenge: Can anyone stop the Aussies? Here we go for 3 in a row! My predictions have been mostly wrong this WC but I am going to say New Zealand/Sri Lanka would give Aus a run for their money.
Not to mention the threat Ireland and Bangladesh pose ;-) hehe

Tonights game between NZ and West Indies will be key to the outcome of the tournament. NZ are carrying a few key injuries with Taylor and Vincent out, two of our best batsman of late. West Indies have the ability to win, however on 7 out of 10 occasions i'd back NZ. Go the BLACK CAPS!! |

Before Malinga's heroics no-one in international cricket had
taken 4 wickets in 4 balls Tonks. Some effort huh? South
Africa do choke , no doubt about it. He almost got 5 in 5 as he beat the edge of Langeveldt's nervous prod. Sri Lanka will look on this as a game given away.
They blew the last three overs of their knock(although not as badly as their
opposition) and a score of 220 or so would've done the trick. If that'd
happened SA wouldn't have made the semis. But they're still in with a
shout , but they'll need better performances with the bat than this
one. Kallis was purring until victory was in sight , then he froze -
seen that before haven't we! Australia have shown their intent and for me there's
only NZ who won't back off against them. The message is clear , if you
want to beat them , you've got to take it to 'em! It'll be some game that gets more tense and exciting than the SA/SL match , that's for sure! Edited by Sledger - 29 March 2007 at 6:00am |

So would this cause some contraversy if we mentioned the double hat trick in the same breath as Herschelle's six 6's Sledge?

I always thought there was practically nothing separating Rhodes and Gibbs scuudz , both were/are terrific! That Jonty always fielded at backward point suggests that Cronje and management thought Jonty had the edge , but it was mighty close. |

Not with me tonks - it was a bowling exhibition of the highest class ! No runs to play with , an old ball (which he reversed brilliantly) and two established , experienced batsmen in Kallis and Pollock at the crease. Truly inspired piece of bowling that could set this world cup on fire! |

Certainly not with me either Sledge! first time ever, against the No.1 side in the world and as you mentioned, an old ball and two in batsmen, i think this is a remarkable feat!

New Zealand really need to perform this match, this match will set the tempo for them for the rest of the tournament. I'm a big fan of marshall, i hope he does well. Not to sure about Fulton opening though

The loss of Vincent has really unsettled the NZ top order mate. Fleming
seemed very relaxed batting with Vincent and scored at a run a ball in
effortless fashion. Vincent's biffing melded well too and they got NZ
off to some rollicking starts.
Fulton must play his own game though and not try to be Vincent Mk II |

SA vs SL... My oh my, what a nailbiter. It doesn't get any more tense than that. Malinga's hattrick+1 was definitely an amazing bit of cricket, dare I say far more impressive than 6 sixes? But I believe that Langevelt's man-of-the-match award was well deserved. Not for his 5 wicket haul, but more so for the most well-played and gutsy knock of 1* that I've ever seen in my life.
It's weird how both the innings played in exactly the same way, with quickfire starts, and wickets tumbling at the end. It's a funny game, ODI cricket.
Once again I ask "Why is Kemp in the SA side?"

Malinga's last 3 or 4 overs today were some of the best bowling I have ever seen. Sri Lanka were desperately unlucky not to win, with about 5 or 6 balls going within an inch of the bat when they only needed one more wicket. Especially that ball of Malinga's where it missed both the bat and the stumps by a couple of millimetres.
4 wickets from 4 balls, against decent batsmen and little assistance from ball or pitch - now THAT'S a record people should take notice of. |

Actually Mojo , the adjudicators awarded the M.O.T.M to both
Langeveldt and Malinga - they just forgot to tell the latter!!
I have to agree with Roscoe , Malinga's final spell was exactly that - spellbinding! Maybe because the match looked lost that he just charged in and let it rip , but just how Langeveldt and Petersen survived was miraculous . Remember too , that the winning boundary came off the edge !! Edited by Sledger - 29 March 2007 at 8:49am |

He didn't look confident last night and he never looked like getting a bowl. Smith again showed little confidence in Petersen either - waiting until the 30th over before throwing him the ball. Blimey , he bowled himself before his number 1 spinner - how crazy is that? Having said that , the pair of them looked as threatening as an English footballing forward line! |

That's true... But for an SA supporter, that edge was just as good as any cover drive. The result is still four runs, and 2 points.
SA really need to work on why they let the match slip out of their fingers so far. It's worrying that they had 2 middle-order collapses in 2 successive matches. Boucher will be kicking himself, Kemp will know that many eyes are on him, and Hall and Pollock will have to make up for their failures.

Yep , 2 pts is 2 pts and against one of the favourites too. They
aren't convincing though and the spin bowling problem is a real concern.
The wicket doesn't suit biffers like Kemp and there's still another two matches in Guyana , maybe he will be dropped and Prince will be brought back to nurdle a few. |

I agree! Prince seems to have a knack of taking the fight to the subcontinent teams. He was magnificent recently against Pak and Ind in SA; and even on the slow Newlands pitch, he batted well. He should have been an obvious pick against Sri Lanka. Kemp shouldn't even have been on the field.

That's what I like about the slinging bowlers like Malinga and Tait. They just wang it down, and a lot of the time the outcome is stumps flying or a spectacular drive. Either way, it's great for the spectators. |

I know it can be said that SA did their best to blow it but looking at the bigger picture it was a fantastic victory in what were practically ideal conditions for the Sri Lankans - as a result it is the latter who should have the greater cause for concern this morning

Fair comment Clobs and they probably had the better of the conditions
for batting and bowling - a real missed opportunity for the Lankans.
