Good question Bondie even though Lara has forgiven him I think hell remember that for a long time. It was a sad way to go but yeah "all rounder" Michael Vaughan had a pretty good game i should say. Bowled well and fielded decently. KP was supeb and proved why he is number1 in the world. Just wanted to ask Where was this Michael Vaughan in the World Cup?

All the more reason why Samuels should be dropped from the team. He is way too inconsistant, his bowling is not that great, there are better players than him who would be a greater asset to the windies team like Reyad Emrit for example. Now to top it all off he managed to run out Lara in Lara's last match!!!! Now are you all convinced that he desperately NEEDS to be dropped from the team??? If only I were a west indian selector!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who knows what would be happening right now!!!!!

Samuels is good enough I think compared to other plauers who habitually fail against good sides like Gayle. Samuels bowling action is suspect, and his fater ball is definietly a chuck, (if he's not suffering from a hyperextensibility illness) This is the reason I think behind mystery of not bowling him.

Well if you can't bowl him what's the point of having him in the team since he is not a very reliable batsman anyway???? He was chosen as an allrounder so he must be able to contribute with both bat and ball and if he can't bowl there is not much sense in having  him in the team. But you know he does fit right into that west indies team because they are all rubbish (except Chanders and Sarwan and maybe Ramdin). Lara is class, he should have been on a team like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Sri Lanka. He wouldn't have all that pressure on him that way!

Relieved to beat the West Indies and actually finally beat a decent test-playing nation? Yes. Pleased that we won? No.

Why?
Well, it's all very well playing as well as that now but it's just a bit too late isn't it. I wonder how many other teams take that policy 'oh by the way we're out now so why not start playing properly'. Funny that, and it was with an under-strength side too now wasn't it? Again funny that.

Vaughan had an excellent knock, but why can't he do that more often, if he did that more often then he'd probably have about 5 ODI hundreds to his name, as it his he hardly ever does it and has none. Pietersen played another great and match-winning knock against the West Indies but both times have been in no-win situations. Nixon did well to take England to victory but what was that shot he played to get himself out, he could easily have made himself villain of England if Anderson had got out and it would've been another Sri Lanka.

Then major disappointments are Liam Plunkett, awful bowling, 7 overs for 71 would be poor in Twenty20's, the only form of cricket in which those would be good figres would be Stick Cricket. And also Jamie Dalrymple, I think you could tell by the look on his face that he knows that there is a very small chance of him playing for England again in a very, very long time, he's been dreadful against NZ and Canada so why play him again?

Bright lights were Collingwood's amazing catch to dismiss Devon Smith and young Stuart Broad. Broad is a future top England bowler in both tests and ODI's and bowled decently and created a run-out and he's no mean batsman, give him time and he could turn into an Ashley Giles (with the bat that is, not with the ball).

So all in all a good win, but just not good enough to please me and too late in the tournament as well. Just funny how England can get only 300 when they need to isn't it, but they never look like getting anywhere near it when they don't.
On extended leave...

I'd add Gayle to that list along with Chanderpaul and Sarwan.  WI need him to do well at the top of the order if they are to be in a strong position in any game.

When Samuels first came on the scene against Australia in late 2000 i thought he was going to be class, but as the years rolled on he was very inconsistent in and out of the team and not living up to his potential that i think he still has.

Australia demolished a below strength New Zealand and England sneak past The West Indians in the final over.  Just three matches left in this marathon and barely a handful of decent games - poor that.
As tight as the finish was in Barbados , I actually didn't care , it was a swansong for Lara that went horribly wrong.  Admirable of him not to blame Samuels afterwards , but it was the worst way to bow out.

If I'd paid to watch that "match" on Friday I'd be demanding my money back - NZ weren't interested and Australia just blitzed them. In soccer , if you field a weakened side there's fines galore , why then does nothing happen in cricket?

As always , it's the paying public who suffer when this sort of thing happens.  Sri Lanka did it as well and the ICC sit on their hands and do the usual - ****** all!

The last three matches had better stir the blood - if they don't I'll start petitioning for the dropping of ODI's on the international calendar!

If the Lankans make the finals against the aussies, it will be one sided. That pitch is in favour of the Aussies, Kiwis and proteas because they are more accustom to it - bouncy and fast!

Todays the big match for two of the underdogs of the tournament, SA and Ausies have a two way battle for sometime for the no. 1 spot, so they will have their battle tomorrow. I believe lankans have a slight edge on kiwis, but kiwis have shown some good guts throughout and they always put in their best on big match days. I expect a great match worthy of a good semi. Key palyers  Jayasuria, Murali and Malinga Vs Bond, Vettori and Flemming, so great prospects today!
so far so good!

I'd hardly call either underdogs , they've both been fancied in most quarters since the start of the tournament.

In today's match, I don't mind either team winning, but I just hope it's a close match, and at least comes down to the last over... That England/West-Indies game reminded me what ODI cricket is all about.

It would be great if the next 3 games go down to the wire, no walk overs, would make it a stunning finish, this is probably quite unlikly though.

We all have our feelings... Doesn't make it correct though. Just have to wait and see.

Remember that SA is the only team that has had the Aussies in a spot of trouble so far in the tournament. They had the match in their hand until the 43rd over. No other team held the advantage against the Aussies.

Just putting that out there. Doesn't imply anything though. Anything can happen in ODI's.

Would love to see it the other way around, and mind you SA is very much capable to produce such a result!

Not so , England were purring at 160-odd for 2 before imploding , Ponting and company were worried at one stage.

It seems England (despite losing most of their matches) have put on quite a few brave fights in this tournament. Two of the closest games so far have featured England.
