Topic: The 2007 Cricket World Cup Posted: 01 November 2005 at 2:08pm |
i am extremely sorry, not mention some of the other teams because i only had five choices.i think these are the five teams to have a better chance of winning the 2007 cricket world cup.i apologize to west Indies fans especially because they are the one hosting the world cup,but looking at their current performance i decided not to put their name in the pool.if however you guys still feel that there are other teams to be mentioned here than you are always welcome to create a new pool (i choose India over sri lanka because of their current performance/ India 3-0 sri )

I've gone for South Africa as I think they can still get better and as they haven't been beaten for some time that's quite ominous.

I go with South Africa because, 14 months out from the World Cup, they have the most balanced squad with the right mix of youth and experience, talent and skill.
I hope this isn't one of those polls where all the Pakistanis online just vote for their team for the sake of voting for Pakistan. Just like the Inzamam poll.

JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

so i choose pakistan and its not just because im pakistani. In their past two ODI series they have clearly shown what they are capable of. they are on a 7 match unbeaten winning streak and i know its not as good as SA but pakistan could increase that win streak.

Superbokkie yes, i am Pakistani and i did vote for Pakistan because i know the potential of my team.did you know that in a side match Pakistan took 6 wickets for 46 runs against england!so basically what i believe is that under the right circumstances Pakistan can win this world cup. but ofcourse my first choice was Australia and i also voted for Australia

It's not 'cheating' to vote twice but it defeats the object so it's bye bye poll, I'm afraid.

i never voted twice for Pakistan you know, one for aus and one for pak! opps sorry if thats not fair. i am sure its been happening in lots other polls too but if you are going to ignore them and make a big deal out of this one then why cant you simply change the format of voting!(or atleast inform people about this through some warnning or something before you accuse them of someing they are unaware of)

I want the polls disabled as they're being abused. I'm not an administrator though, so I don't have the power to disable them. All I can do is delete the polls where people have clearly been messing about.

well maybe everyone should only be able to vote once and then the pole should be closed to them for voting, only the discussion should be open for them to get involved in. i don't know its just a suggestion.

even though inzamam got all the votes because some crazy maniac voted so many times, and i was happy cause i'm pakistani, it was still unfair and you're right.

that's true, the poll system does need improvment, but i think all of this should be discussed in the place called "website comments" in the thread "polls". i'm just suggesting (not ordering) this to everyone even myself because i know that i made a post related to the polls stuff in this thread which should not have been made here. anyway i don't want anyone to take this personally or think that i'm being bossy.
this is about the world cup, and i would like to see talk about the world cup.

well, than lets get back to the cricket talk, i think SA will win the world cup because they are on a role, they are doing really well, and SL seem to falling because they just got white washed by india (4-0).
india are also improving and i think it might be because of tendulkers' return or ganguly finally being axed. tendulker is without a doubt the star player of india, and ganguly was just an obstacle in india's success.
but now that india0 is back on the right path, its possible that maybe india will have a chance at the world cup if they continue to play this way.
pakistan might also have a chance, they are also on an unbeaten streak, though quite a small one, it could get bigger, its right now 7 wins in a row and when they face england, that will be their chance to make the winning streak bigger. pakistan is a young side but they do have some experienced players like inzamam, shoaib, and mohammad yousaf/yousaf youhana.
though here are the problems with the pakistani side:
inzamam is too fat and needs to go on a diet, he is also getting old.
shoaib is too fat for what he does, he is also unfit (same thing i guess).
youhana is just fine.
now an analysis on the rest of the team:
Sami has a temper problem and will go crazy if he gets a single boundary on him. he needs to control his bowling.
younis khan needs to be more consistent.
shabbir needs to keep his action proper.
danish kaneria is fine, he just needs to be consistently taking wickets.
and the rest just need more consistency (shahid afridi, salman butt, abdul razzaq, kamran akmal, rana naveed-ul-hassan, shoaib malik)
that's a whole lot of things that pakistan can do to improve, but if they can do that then they will get better. i think the younger players will polish by the world cup, but i don't think that shoaib will be fit or Inzamam won't be fat.

nice analysis saad!i wished i knew that much.but however here is what i think of Pakistan's current status. well its 3 stars out of 5.i mean they can improve but are facing a lot of difficulties recently and need more practice.inzy is facing a lot of problems including an insult from a Pakistani guard at gadafi stadium for not letting inzies car inside the stadium for security reasons.and the fact that ICC ignored inzy for super series at first makes him feel that he is not getting the respect that he should at this age.(inzy did say that and at first refused to play in the super series).

when inzi was ignored for the super series, its wasn't about the respect he deserved at an age of 35, it was about the respect he deserved when he was and is in such great form but he was still not chosen for the super series.
but that would be a completely different topic.

i think you are right, look at SA these days, they are on a roll. 12 wins in a row! they also have a lot of "young guns," who are polishing up.

yup, no doubt about that, by the world cup i think McGrath and Warne should be gone for sure. those 2 are the teams major bowling anchors. McGrath is the guy who destroys the top order and lets shane finish the job. the other bowlers are just there. lee gets sloged all the time, and MacGill only plays ODIs well.
the australian batting order might last a bit longer because ponting and gilchrist will be here for a while.

i seen an interview with warne & mcgrath yesterday, & these guys are hinting that they might be around for the next world cup. no doubt warney could be if he wanted 2.

after the ashes, warne said he plans to be around for the next ashes which will be in 18 months and just before or after the world cup i think. so maybe warne will be around for the 2007 world cup but McGrath, even though he is a year younger he is a fast-medium bowler which means he needs more fitness.
