Shane Warne retired from one day cricket some time ago Saad. As for McGrath , if you believe his press statements , he's never felt fitter. Left to him , 2007 is a distinct possibility.

oh i had no idea shane had retired from ODI cricket and i didn't think that it was possible for a cricketer to retire from one type of the game and keep playing the other type.
And as for McGrath, even though he is ageing, he seems to only be getting better and better so i guess maybe he will be around for the 2007 world cup.

well, i've heard from many people that wasim is still fit enough to play, but i personally don't agree with that. he is getting old and his body has deteriorated so i don't think he can play. though i wish he could because he is my favorite player.

Hi, I am new to this forum. I watched the recently concluded India vs Sri Lanka ODIs and was astounded by India's rebounding ferocity with which they won the at home series 6-1. With Ganguly chucked out, (not a good way for a once a class player with more than 10,000 runs in ODIs to retire), India look set to make their mark finally in the cricketing world. (Goodbye Australia!!!) While the Indian team is full of young and bright players like Pathan and Dhoni, they are backed by the matured Dravid and Tendulkar. The way I see it, in the upcoming 07 World Cup, India will be the dominant side coz the Australian players are fast ageing and the Aussie youngsters do not have much experience playing Indian spinners. I predict 5-0 white wash of South Africa in the upcoming ODIs series in India and I boldy predict that India will win the 2007 Cricket World cup. Any opinions and responses of all sorts are welcome

i rekon australia are a huge chance of winning because they slaughted the World XI in both test and one-dayers, Australia have so young players coming through, such as dan cullen, he is a great off spinner and can bat, hes on 21, even though mcgrath has to retire soon, i think shaun tait can do a good job at opening the bowling, nathen bracken is also a good bolwer.
But if australia aren't in good form.... i tip South Africa to win!

Australia's form in One-dayers has still been pretty strong despite their recent concerns in the test arena...so at this stage I'd say Australia

and also, if warne continues on in the way he is...having fully recovered now from his shoulder and finger injuries and yielding the full armoury of deliviers he has on the windies...i wouldn't be surprised if he made a return to one day cricket on the eve of the 2007 world cup

I'd put my odds on south africa or england to win the world cup 2007. I
think the key is having a good match winning batsmen (kemp /
pietersen), a decent line of bowlers which both teams have, and a good
allrounder (kallis and kemp / flintoff)
|
|
My two favourite Batsmen:
Jacques Kallis is a very solid but destructive batsmen and not to mention he can bowl as well.
I also like Michael Clarke for his amazing batting talent at such a young age

They both have a chance Cap , but it's a long way off yet and squads could undergo massive changes.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the Windies will perform creditably on home turf - their Aussie coach , King , if left in charge will shake them up.

Yeah. They proved they still can produce good cricket by winning the
mini-worldcup

Read the original quote again, Saad. I'm not sure you'll understand what Sledger was getting at otherwise.

A quote from Steve waghs book, and it rings true when you look at it.
He says, and i quote,,,Batsmen win you One day matches,Bowlers win you test matches,of course there is some exception to the rule but generally the quote is right. The one day game and restrictions placed on bowlers is geared to batsmen. No bouncer over the head or shoulder, wide if down leg,Feilding restrictions,10 overs only, etc, etc,Just the nature of ODI is that bowlers are generally bowling with limitations they dont have in tests, but looking at most tests if you have good bowlers you will generally win???????? of course thats his and my opinion, anyone else have a view on this one???,so in ODI in Windies 2007,look for the team with the swag of batsmen class batsmen and they will be one of the last standing,,,,india and SA are both building ,windies must get some steel in the batting,Aus,Eng,Pak,NZ anything can happen and 2 early to tell who will rise in 2 years huh

well, than Australia have one of the best chances of winning the world cup. They have Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Mathew Hayden. Those 3 are great batters. And when Gilchrist is in form, he can get australia off to a great start and take the game out of the oppositions hand in 15 overs.

yea maybe! but i think england can do the same and so can Pakistan!we all got world class players so why mention Australia only.its not like Australia can never be defeated. i mean in the 2006 world cup Pakistan was the first team to break Australia's back, remember when wasim got three early wickets! i left thinking Australia will lose now but situation changed and our team lost.
its cricket, i mean anything can happen(you might lose ashes after 8 consecutive victories even if you team is in a great form)

yea, Pakistan has great batters such as Mohammad Yousuf, Inzamam, and Younis Khan. There opener Salman Butt is also good and Afridi can also some times give them a great start.

when Australia lost the ashes they were hardly in good form...all credit must go to England, but Australia played miserably for most of it apart from Warne and Mcgrath (when he played)

Yup, England made the most of some luck that came their way in McGrath getting injured and the back up bowling not being up to scratch.

The main thing was that Australia's batting was in very poor form and that gave England a big advantage.
