i dont vaughan to come back in odi's he did a wonderful jobin the ashes and should continue leading in tests but freddie for odi's he should be promoted in the batting order as well trescothick's scoring some good runs so if simon jones can get fit and england have a full strenght squad it'll help them but aussies are still favourites .i want to see stuart acgill in the xi more often ,he gives a boundary ball but he also picks up wickets ,also the break will give them time to prepare their strategies and game plans hopefully andrew strauss will also prepare some thing for warne ,and i hope damien martyn gets some good runs so does hayden .high expectations from all players for the fans ,hope it'll be a nail-bighting series and may the best team win .for me the barmy army sholud retain it .shah should play

I know it's not the best batting atack in the world but england are showing great deph to fast bowling,
Cook could be the balence we have been mising since Thopre retired.
bring on the Ashes!!
still could do with a quality spiner, but nothing new their. |

During the Ashes, McGrath wasn't beaten.(3tests,1win,2draws.)
All english fans, pray that someone will roll a cricket ball under McGrath's foot again!

McGrath wont have played much cricket by the time the next ashes come around, but ofcorse his injury was key in england wining the ashes.
it's Warny that torments me. it's torture waching him when he is bowling at youre team.
what about the auz tail's batting. Warny nearly got a century last ashes. Lee hit some big delibrate sixes and then there's dizzy and his duble century. |

the Sri Lanka series does not seem that it will challenge the England team much but i think the Pakistan series will be very crucial for England's ashes perparations, a good series win against Pakistan will see us ready to take on those Aussies in their own back yard

That wouldn't surprise me with the Poms....but not Australia mate. The Aussies will be jumping out of their skins to play some cricket after a 4 month break and the Champions Trophy will be the only warm-up for them before the Ashes.
Lets also not forget that almost half the Aussie Test team wont be in the ODI squad anyway (Hayden, Langer, Warnie, MacGill...etc).

....good one Sledger.
Though I'm sure that a majority of countries wouldn't mind having the likes of some of the Aussie "oldies" in their ODI teams. I'm sure the Poms would be happy to grab 1 or 2 of them... .
Its not that they cant play the pyjama game. Its just that the Australian selectors are spoiled with the choices they have...and there are players more suitable to the one-day stuff.
Gone are the days that Test players were automatic choices in ODI teams.

Just to spare a thought, Australian bowling attack specially the equickes, arent we going back to the same as was in the last ashes. Macgrath, Lee, Kasprowitz, Galispee, warne. With a double century under his belt, gelispee is back, similarly kasprow has also been in good form actually they are good bowlers and with their experience they would always be better than braken and clarke to fill in the slots after lee & macgrath, but wouldnt that be a very known attack for england.

With the injury pronness in english bowlers, I surely doubt that claim, Hoggy other than Freddie, has been the only fit bowler for a long while!

As far as the Aussie quicks go Wisy, I expect that in at least 3 (perhaps 4) of the 5 tests, Australia will play both Warnie and MacGill. That will leave room for just 2 quicks.....3 at the most if they forget about the all-rounder experiment. Perhaps Gillespie will now be considered as all-rounder after his double century!... .
So there will be lots of competition for the 2 or 3 spots on offer. McGrath and Lee should be certainties...and you still have Gillespie, Clarke and Bracken. I doubt that we'll see Kasper during the Ashes.

I just can't see MacGill starting 3 tests Gambs , unless Warnie breaks down! He'll get a go at Sydney , but the Ashes will have been retained well before then.
He won't play in Perth and I doubt Warne will want him at the MCG ! He might get a go in Adelaide , but I don't see him starting at the Gabba either.
Now that Hohns has gone there could be selectorial changes , but I don't expect wholesale changes.

I think the Aussies will play 2 spinners in at least 3 Tests Sledge. Apart from anything else, the selectors should by now know that England is a lot better at playing pace than spin.
The only test the Aussies wont consider playing 2 spinners is Brisbane.
On the other hand Sydney and Adelaide are certainties.
Melbourne is a fair chance also...and so is Perth if the pitch is like it was last summer. I remember Dennis Lillee making the comment that the once bouncy wickets are no more...and he was shocked that Australia didn't pick a 2nd spinner to play SA there.
England better start practising batting against leg spin... .

Well I just hope you've enough kookaburras after KP gets after Warnie and MacGill !
If you're right , playing Murali ,Kaneria and Malik can only help the English batsmen this summer.
....and don't forget , we've got Merlin as well!

Strauss is a worry against spin, he dosent seem to play it well at the moment. hopefully over the summer he will get to see a lot of it. Collingwood plays it well.
Out of interst was Collingwood the only man that england sent into bat that Warne did not dismiss? I know he was out LBW to an inswinging yorker of Tate in the first innings, what happend to him in the second? Please say Warne dident get every englisman atleast once!!!!!!

That should certainly help mate. They did OK against Murali in the 1st Test...but I guess he only got to bowl on the 1st couple of days of the match.
Just try not to bring too many left handed batsmen to Australia. Just ask the poor South Africans. Lefties do it pretty tough against Warnie and MacGill bowling into the foot-marks (especially during 2nd innings obviously).
Strauss and Treschothick will obviously be coming...but if I was an English selector, I wouldn't be bringing too many more.
