I predict Australia to win the Ashes 4-1 but expect the games to be close.

I'm going to go for 2-1 to England (rain affected draws and a draw at the Oval)
I fancy England to tame Warne and McGrath after the Lords's test!

England are a better side than what we've seen. If we'd taken some easy catches then this game would have been very different

So in summary England will come back strongly. The speed of the game these days (and global warming) will prevent a draw so England will win the Ashes 3-2 (we'll let them win at the Oval as a consolation)

Ashes series is nicely balanced at the moment with both sides looking to take the initiative at Trent Bridge.
England have only won one Ashes Test at Trent Bridge since 1930 - and that was in 1977 when Ian Botham made his debut and Geoff Boycott returned to test cricket after his self-imposed exile. Botham took 5/74; his first test wicket was the Australian captain Greg Chappell. Boycott, after running out local hero Derek Randall, went on to score his 13th test century in England's seven-wicket win.
I predict and England win at Trent Bridge followed by a draw at the Oval.England regain the Ashes!!

I like the prediction Doc , but winning at Trent Bridge could be a real problem. Good track , reverse unlikely to be an issue , and England's record there is poor. I reckon a high scoring draw in Nottingham and a Frddie inspired win at the Oval !!

So much for my prediction !! Jones was terrific , another five wicket haul ! I think the Aussies are shot , they've been completely outplayed for the last three tests and just sheer bloody mindedness hand England's lack of killer blows have kept them in the contest. I'm convinced that England will crush the Aussies next week !

Koppers,
I was at Lord's on 31st July 2003 when your guys just stomped all over ours on the 1st day of the 2nd Test. In the end, South Africa won by an innings and 92 runs, and I think that game and the rest of that series (eventually drawn) made England sit up and take notice.
Thanks to all you Proteas!
Cheers,
Swerveman

Well my head's cleared now and I can type! ;)
Fantastic series , more tension than a visit from the mother-in-law!! England must kick on from here and give it to both Pakistan and India - tough ask after this series though!!
Congrats to the Aussies too - it takes two sides to make a spectacle - I feel a nother beer coming on !

You're right Sledger.
Bring on Pakistan and India.
A series win against both of them this Winter/Spring 2006 will make England No1 in the World
I fancy South Africa to turn over the Aussies in their upcoming series. That will well and truly prove that the Aussies are on the slide!

There's a lot of optimism in SA about the upcoming series. The bowling attack has improved - watch Dale Steyn at the WACA (if they have the guts to play him!) Gibbs's recovery is crucial too - the middle order looks a bit green without him. Spin bowling is, again the major problem - poor old Boje could go for plenty!
All in all , a fascinating contest coming up - well worth getting up at 2am for !

i don think australia will lose to SA, because they just white washed the world 11 and after that they got momentum going into the series against SA.
And englands chances of beating pakistan and india are pretty good. beating pakistan shouldn't really be hard cause according to ICC rankings pakistan is number 7 in tests which is quite bad. even though i'm a pakistani, the fact is that pakistan are not really a worthy enough test side.
beating india might be a challange because india are number 3 in ICC rankings which is quite impressive. but there a lot of problems in indian cricket so it might interfere in india's confidence as a team.

We already have a thread about the upcoming Aus/SA series in the General Forum. Please discuss it in there rather than digging up old threads in this forum.
