Two of the most successful bowlers of all time had a special grip for the ball. This grip was holding the seam with your middle finger and holding the other 4 fingers symetrically to the side. Despit being a reasonably easy grip to use, these two bowlers are the only 2 (of my knowledge) who have used this grip and why is this? This grip enables you to get over a metre of inswing, leg breaks pitching on lega dn hitting off at 70mph and it is reasonably easy to use. Why on earth don't more fast bowlers use this method of bowling? To me, it's insane. if I was a fast bowler I would kill to bowl like Barnes and Bedser, both legends of bowling.

You get more controll with jus the two fingers. Using your full fingers makes it liable for the ball to lose control, also in release it won't glide out as easily with two fingers, so the pace could be reduced, unless you bang it in where by the grip you speak off could be better.

One of my mates used this grip to bowl the slower ball. He was a medium pacer bowling around 80 mph mark, and bowling banana in swingers. He used to bowl this kind of delivery tha tails in through the air to pitch on off and then spin away to hit  or miss the off. With reduced pace (around 65-70 mph I thought) it was very difficult to get control ove the drives.

The ball comes out the hand slower, so you're using the same amount of effort, achieving no more swing or accuracy (that I can make out anyway) and losing pace. In fact, I imagine it would be harder to keep the seam straight so you would get less swing and movement as well

Tried it today, could probably have done it better with practice but seemed to take some of the pace off the delivery. Also made it near impossible to bowl style of off-cutter which is my main weapon so I doubt i'll be trying it again.

Nobody's done anything frightfully derogatory mate, chill.....

The online dictionary for ratified:

  • To confirm by expressing consent, approval, or formal sanction.
  • To confirm (something done or arranged by an agent or by representatives) by such action.
Hope that helps so we can get back on the topic, whatever it was..... Big%20smile

Maybe that kind of grip worked for those bowlers, Like Murali's grip works for him, but for the vast majority those grips dont work and are detremental to their performance. Thats why more people dont use it.
