By the way, what are the ICC ratings for?

Looking at the Test Ratings an their past 12 months performance, i would select my top 5 batsmen, 1 Wicketkeepr, 1 allrounder and 4 bowlers.

1. Hayden

2. Sehwag

3. Ponting

4. Lara

5. Inzimam

6. Kallis (Kallis made it to the list of top-10 batsmen and tops the test allrounder list as well)

7. Kamran Akmal (since no WC made it to ICC Test batting ratings, he has had the best figures in the past 1 year - Jan 05 to Jan 06)

8. MacGrath

9. Muralitharan

10. Warne

11. Ntini

12. Vaas (if we go for only 1 spinner, Warne will be dropped as he is behind Murali on the ICC ratings)

For, ODIs using the same standard, we have

1. Glichrist

2. Smith

3. Ponting

4. Yousuf (from the class acts group of Laxman, Martyn, Yousuf he is in the top 10 list)

5. Gayle (allrounder: 1st spin option, may open as well instead of Smith)

6. Symonds (allrounder: 2nd spin option)

7. Hussey (the perfect finisher)

8. Lee

9. Pollock

10. Naved ul Hasan

11. Murali

12. Vaas (may replace Smith, with Gayle opening the inning with Gilly)

Hey everyone ... I was just thinking about great teams... The great pace bowling West Indian teams of the 1980's... The recent Aussie sides of the 90's... And the various World XI sides over the years... But could these teams beat a team of  todays players? It's a good question... Here's my version of the "best team in the world"... And I dunno... I think we've got a better breed of players now than ever... Feel free to post your best team in the world and we'll see how they match up with mine

1. Matthew Hayden (AUS)
2. Sachin Tendulkar (IND)
3. Ricky Ponting (c) (AUS)
4. Brian Lara (WI)
5. Inzamam Ul-Haq (PAK)
6. Andrew Flintoff (ENG)
7. Adam Gilchrist (wk) (AUS)
8. Brett Lee (AUS)
9. Shane Warne (AUS)
10. Muttiah Muralidaran (SL)
11. Glenn McGrath (AUS)
-----------------------------------
12. Virender Sehwag (IND)
13. Jacques Kallis (SAF)
14. Kumar Sangakkara (wk) (SL)
15. Shane Bond (NZ)
16. Steve Harmison (ENG)

That looks like a great ODI as well as a Test squads.

Finally someone decided on keeping Akhtar in the ODI team. He's a genuine fast bowler!!! My pick would be the same as Warnester!!! However in the test squad I wouldn't mind replacing gilly with sangakarra!!! What do you think???

Pakistan Rocks and Own the Cricket Stadium!!! World Cup 2007 here we COME.....

Missing the best batsman currently playing , Ponting and Murali batting above Warne and Dravid at 6 !! Strange choice as captain too as FIVE other players in your side are experienced test leaders.

NOw THAT'S a cricket side Clobs!!!!

Lara and Tendulkar are toughies to leave out - as is Barry Richards , but he didn't get enough exposure to test cricket.

There's a lot of great quicks (Roberts , Holding ,Akram, Trueman , Larwood , Hall etc etc etc) but no complaints with your choices - they just happen to be mine too.

Richard Hadlee Ian Botham and Imran Khan have to be close ahead of Proccie - but it's a tough call

Without doubt , this is THE best XI chosen on this thread - some of them are nothing more than a joke.

Maybe this is another daft thread fellas - just HOW do you pick eleven players from the multitude of magnificent cricketers from the last 120 years !!

Syd Barnes just can't be left out Clobs - just go read his career stats...

....Herb Sutcliffe wasn't bad either........Victor Trumper.....George Headley......

.....I'm dizzy and will stop now before going crazy...
