At least your honest W.G., you were a good opponent for a while then, and I guess it means that I'm the leader!

The internet isen't really a reliable source, although books may take longer to find the answers they probably are better. I accept the fact that people use google, I use it sometimes as well.

The answer is Vinod Kambli and I believe he scored his century against Zimbabwe in that WC.

If you google "first South African bowler to take 100 test wickets" and visit first the very first link(even that isn't necessary , the briefing answers the question)

http://www.google.co.in/search?q=first+South+African+bowler+to+take+100+test+wickets

http://www.hindu.com/2004/11/19/stories/2004111904511700.htm

Anyways, where is the next question ???

I still stand by my source that Hugh Tayfield is the FIRST South African bowler to take 100 test wickets.  He achieved this feat on South Africa's tour of England in 1955.

Neil Adcock was the first South African FAST bowler to take 100 test wickets.

Tayfield was an off-spinner.

Anyone else want to get in on this?  Perhaps some of the other older....err....ahem I mean more experienced members of the forum would be able to settle this for us.

Hmm, after a bit of research Neil Adcock took 100 wickets in 1960 if I am not mistaken. So I apologise for doubting the answer!
