Interesting comments by Ian Chappell on Channel 9 this morning. He's noticed that there's an increase by players questioning an umpire after he turns down an appeal. He rightly points out that a captain can ask questions about a point of law , but questioning a judgement call doesn't fall into that category.

I don't like players squaring up to umpires and debating decisions - no umpire will change his mind no matter what the player says! Just the thought of cricketers behaving like footballers makes my blood run cold (just look what happens when a ref gives a penalty!).

It needs sorting out now , if players can lose their match fee for over the top appealing , they should suffer the same fate for questioning the man in the middle's judgement.

I agree, John (it is John isn't it). They're really acting out of order. It's
almost showing some arrogance, as if they know more than the umpire.
It's arrogance expressed on a soccer field that should never reach a
cricket pitch.
My two favourite Batsmen:
Jacques Kallis is a very solid but destructive batsmen and not to mention he can bowl as well.
I also like Michael Clarke for his amazing batting talent at such a young age

Pete actually mate !! Glad to see you agree - cricketers must uphold the traditions of the game and that includes treating umpires with respect.

It's almost as though they're doing it because they know ICC don't trust
the umpires either (because they were the ones who made the rule of
allowing the 3rd umpire to see TV replays).

Pete's right, it's on a par with excessive/stupid appealing and the sooner it is stamped out the better.

i completely agree with sledger, the players should not question the umpires decision.

I dont like the idea of cricketers using descent as a way to get their wickets.  Cricket and Rugby are two games i admire because of the respect that is given to the officials from the moment the match starts. Football is a gentlemans game played by thugs and Rugby is a thugs game played by adults, lets just hope that cricket doesnt start to go the same way! Maybe its because cricket is becoming more popular but i just hope it goes away!

football is garbage. you can't compare football to cricket. cricket is just too good. football is so physical and its for insane people who want to break their bones. the officials in football are not respected. in cricket players may argue against the umpire but there aren't many times when a player will assault an umpire in any way.

i know that. rugby and football are both very physical and foot ball is actually sort of copied from rugby. i hate both of them.

Saad, the football they're talking about is soccer.  Not so many broken bones, but they still don't respect the ref.

oh. i wanted to clear that up but i just assumed they were talking about what we call football here in canada. i know that in other countries soccer is called football but i just assumed they were talking about the modified version of rugby type football.

yea, soccer is not even close to as aggresive as football/rugby, but as you mentioned the refs are not respected.

soccer (football) is an awsome support in which many an umpire gets the highest respect.

Referees get abused all the time in football (soccer to those of you who didn't invent the game). It's not an awesome sport, cheating and deception is rife, not to mention overpaid prima donnas.

it is the biggest sport in the world & if not for cricket i would rate it the best. i think you will find that cricket has problems that are similar but yes, they dont dont get anywhere near as much pay as premier league footballers. i think international cricketers get something like $3000 - $6000 (au) a test dont they? (1200 pounds - 2600 pounds)

I really don't want to get drawn into a cricket v football debate, so I'm not going to.
