Every cricket lover remembers players they really didn't rate and yet they played international cricket!

Who's THE worst player that played for your country ?

I've got LOADS to pick from , English selectors have made some major oopsies over the years!!

"Class" players like Ronnie Irani ,Graham Barlow , Simon Brown and Tony Pigott.

But my personal favourite has to be Chris Schofield !!

That he played for Lancashire makes it worse! He was supposed to be the English answer to Shane Warne !!!

He played in only two tests , could barely hit the strip and Athers was scared to bowl him !! Of course , he didn't take a single wicket.......

......and now he's redundant , a pity actually , as we desparately needed him to succeed.

from pakistan, i would say arshad khan. he is a disgrace to off-spiners, he can't even spin the bowl and i can't believe he made to internationals.

Most recent I can think of is Jim Troughton - class player, no doubt, but didn't cut it at international level, only managing a top score of 20 in ODIs.

In Tests, Ed Smith and Gavin Hamilton come to mind.

lewy
i don't know about the worst player but i am pretty sure about the best place in the world to be.(Saint Lucia ) i wish i get a chance to go there to watch cricket.lewy you are so lucky dude!

well i hate sami not because he isn't a good bowler but because he shows off a lot, so no matter what he does,I'll always hate him for being the most over-actor player i have ever seen.

that is true, i don't like sami either because he isn't a good bowler, especially not in tests, a bowling average of 45, wow, that's impressive. another thing i don't like about him is he gets too angry over every single shot that is hit off his bowling. and the third thing i hate about him is that he gets a wicket and acts like he's just gotton like 6 wickets in a row like he's set a new world record.

SA Muller who rocked up for australia,
He made headlines big time for throwing a return to shane warne, from the boundry and the words,(cant bowl cant throw either) were clear for everyone to hear.It was as the ball dribbled along the ground back to warne who was standing over the microphone stump.
The catch was that this bloke made a huge song and dance about it when he was told by freinds after the days play.
He sooked and argued with warne and went to the papers saying he was going to sue.
Warne completly denied the allegations. And although it appeared Warne had indeed said it,and for all his other failings he is very supportive of his team mates, you will never here him bag a team mate ever.He is as loyal and staunch to team mates as anyone who has played cricket.
So who was it then, who made the snide and cruell remark as there was only warney, and the umpire when the words come clearly over the tv speakers in everyhome.?????
It turns out that a cameraman who after returning from an advert forgot to switch of his feed line and whatever he said was said all over australia, haha,he owned up and admitted it.Do you think this muller guy would accept he got it wrong,no way,he still was demanding court action, mind you this is still on day 3 of the test match.
Aust ended up winning the game, muller was never heard from again, only in papers saying he is sure warne said it and he does not want peace with him or the selectors, hahaha
so there is a guy who was no good at cricket,at test level but didnt know when to shut the hell up hahaha

Ps,when we say the worst players ,these guys are top players to make it to test level, but not good at test level,i wish i could be called a dud but got to play one test, more than a cood of been champion who never played 1 test hahahaha

Well I've done a bit of research here John and found some interesting stuff.

Indeed , Germans are VERY good at some things !

   1) They make huge sausages that are great weapons , but sadly unfit for human consumption.

   2) They have genetically modified jaws which allow them to chew with much greater force than normal homosapiens. Sadly , this manifestation prevents them from laughing.

   3) They are THE greatest travellers of all races - just see how many countries they visited between 1933-1942 !!!

A bag pick of recent in my mind would have to Shaun Udal playing for
England in Pakistan. He's 36 years old and likely to retire soon after his
debut series!
My two favourite Batsmen:
Jacques Kallis is a very solid but destructive batsmen and not to mention he can bowl as well.
I also like Michael Clarke for his amazing batting talent at such a young age

i didn't know that udal was 36. what a disgrace to become a cricketer at such an old age (for cricket). this will be his first and last test series. he probably won't even make the whole series. he'll get injured or something and will go to the hospital.

Lewy, mate, I barely understood a word of what you wrote. Fink? fanks? dat? Are you typing in English?

I think Gavin Hamilton is the worst player to play for England, a pair on his debut, and no wickets. Ouch! Although he has done well for Scotland in the one day format, so perhaps he is not terrible!

Chris Schoefield was horrible! But I shall always remember him for that cheeky shot over the Zimbabwe slips corden!

Ed Giddens must be remembered as the greatest ever tool to play cricket for England. After a promising start to his career, he ended up failing and being blamed for a recurence of an injury in Andrew Flintoff (they had to over bowl him because Giddens couldn't land the ball on the square, let alone the pitch!) He is also infamous for being suspended from cricket for snorting cocaine...twice. Chop! Yet he has a bowling average of 20!

Nantie  'Wayward' Haywood of South Africa has a terrible attitude and now can barely get a game. He started his career well, and was believed to be the great white hope of South African fast bowling. And then he decided to start swearing at his county captain, bad mouthing SA selectors, and threatening to kill a team-mate for sleeping with his girlfriend. I realise he was talented, but I still believe him to be one of the worst to play for South Africa because of his attitude.

I don't know if any-one saw Jon Kent play one day games against Australia in SA a couple of years ago. He could barely get runs for Natal, and thent they stuck him in to play against the mighty Aussies. It was painful to watch him try and 'mix it' at that level! His bowling barely reached the batsmen!

What a disgrace. I mean figures of 17-3-47-1 on international debut, absolutely shocking. It may well be his first and last series, but who else were we going to play? He's a lot better than the spinners we've tried in recent times, i.e Batty, Dawson, Schofield, who probably are amongst the worst players to have played for England.

The irony of your comment about him getting injured is brilliant when you have your own Shoaib Akhtar in the Pakistan team.

well, i have to admit that shoaib akhtar does get a lot of injuries but that's because he's unfit not because he's getting too old. he's got maybe 5 more years in the international arena. when i said that udal would get injured, i meant because of his age (his body has deteriorated), not because he might have fitness problems like shoaib.

im sorry if you didnt understand what i wrote. i'll know better in the future. and yes i was typing in english. i guess that's the caribbean blood in me. Tino Best is from the island of Barbados. made his test debut versus Australia in 2003. has the ability to bowl in excess of 90 plus mph. but he seems to be more concerned with things outside cricket than focussing on his cricket. if you want any further details, visit cricinfo. com.

How old is Shoaib? And he has fitness problems? What the......?

Udal is 36 and I can't remember the last time he was injured (or put in a bad performance, for that matter.)

It's not Udal you Pakistanis want to be worrying about, anyway.

Lewy, I like Tino Best. Love the pace, and enthusiasm and energy he bowls with. But you are right, he never takes wickets, is wayward, and i think he is enjoying being in the spotlight!

If someone can get in his head, and change his attitude, he will be very good, but at the moment, ridiculously mediocre!

What are your thoughts on Mohamed, the spin bowler and batsman from a couple of years ago, who looked silly in the field?!! Surely he is one of the worst players to play for the Windies?

What was his spinning like? Because he may be similar to kaneria - a
useless fielder, but a worthy bowler.

i just think that Best needs to focus on his game more. with regards to dave mohammed, there is still alot of potential in him. the selectors just havent made their minds up as yet.
