Hey all.

I'm in the process of building a free online cricket game (www.theonlinecricketgame.com) and would like to get feedback as well as any ideas / improvements / features that people would like to see in the game.

The game currently launches through Java Web Start and requires Java v1.6 to play.

The initial idea of the game is:
1. Start as a club cricketer controlling only your actions on and off the field
2. Achieve goals to enable to you become captain and get selected in your first class and international teams.
3. Captains can control all players in the team

The game is meant to be a free, playable, statistical game where the people playing the game say how it is built.

All and any feedback would be great... If anyone wants to help with the design side of things then they would become a start in my books as you will see it is not the prettiest of applications.

Cheers all,

OK. I've uploaded another version of the game tonight.

A few things to note:

1. Cashflow is not fully implemented which means you get an initial cash flow of $650, once you have spent this you get no more

Once the cashflow & sponsorship is setup you will be able to earn more money and buy more products.

2. A few labels are missing. Such as in the GearBag... those numbers are the ratings.

3. Career overview is only the 'shell' but should be done very shortly.

4. Images in the shops will change when I get a minute. Gear will be rated better also.

5. The extra rating points from your gear are added to your batting & bowling rating but do not show that anywhere at this stage. That will be fixed tomorrow.

Fixed: Fixed the coaching tips issue for bowlers so that they now show simple bowling tips.

All feedback welcome

Cheers

I am currently taking a look. For some reason it will not let my match progress to the next innings - whenever I try to advance I get a bowling alert.

Hey - Let me have a look. This same thing happened to me but I thought I had fixed that bug. Do you know which option you had selected from Ball, Over, Till Your Bat, Innings, Next Wicket? I think it's because I have missed a line of code somewhere.
Let me know if you can and I'll get it sorted ASAP.

Cheers

OK... new version uploaded which I hope has fixed the issue.

Please try playing again and let me know if you run into the same (or any other) issue.

If you do experience this issue again can you also let me know which option you were using to play (Till Your Bat, Next Wicket, Innings, Ball, Over etc).

Cheers guys

I'm thinking a better approach to building this game is to say... So far i've built a shell of a cricket game (www.theonlinecricketgame.com), there is no plan for the game except to improve on whats already there and to build in the features that those who are playing the game want included.

Buddy, I haven't checked this out but apparently, it seems you can do algorithm - kudos to you, that sort of thing can kill a lot of people brain.

I won't be uploading the new version for a couple of days.

Have got a fair bit done over the weekend but need to iron out a few things before I upload.

I have added in the cashflow and sponsorships so you now earn money from your sponsor as you play.

I've also added in an 'aging' process for gear so your gear will wear out as you use it. If you find that you are having to buy too much gear then let me know and ill change it up a bit.

I've also added in a highlight to help see who is on strike.

An alert has been created for when the game ends.

Batting and bowling options only appear when you can use them.

Multiplied the strike rate by 100.

Fixed issues with the bowler economy rate.

Added Club, First Class, and Interntional to the Career overview screen

Fixed the gear bag panel.

Re-worked the shop.

Gear replenishes in the shop after each match.

If you cannot afford gear or do not buy new gear it will affect your batting and bowling rating

Cheers folks.

Will post once the next upload goes up. ETA, 30/November/2010.

I played one T20 game, the first dig was a good score of 199.  Team batting second was unrealistic though, managed 175/1.  I don't know if it's possible but in cases like this, when the end is coming near and wickets is in hand, you can probably have it programmed to hit more runs and take more wickets as well during those parts.  Just an idea, I know it's not as easy as how i'm writing it here.

Hey Spin Wizard,

Thanks for the feedback. I have made some changes to the current batting engine so that players will chase better and also make more use of the first 6 overs. Once the new batting and bowling performance engine is finished (we're looking at Jan / Feb 2011) this will be much improved.

Once I upload the new version you should see more wickets fall, and more aggressive batting during the opening and closing overs.

Keep the feedback coming, it's great to have everyones ideas :)

New version of the game uploaded today.

Fixes:

* Updates the career overview screen so that your club summary appears.

* Added in sponsorship, you now get paid for the runs you score and the wickets you take. The details of the sponsorship deal are not currently available but will be in the next release.

* Alert advising when the game has been completed now appears at the end of the game. Further alert boxes will be created over the next few days (End of innings, 50s, 100s etc)

* Remodelled the shop
________________________________________________________________________

Please feel free to suggest priorities that should be worked on within the game. My general plan (along with working on the new batting and bowling engine) is to get a bit more into the game side of things this week (i.e. the alerts, more batting options, more bowling options (i.e. fast, slow ball, off spin, googly etc) as well as finishing off the gear bag and aging of the gear.

Aging of gear: The idea for aging gear is to make it more like a player. So for instance, a bat might break, or gloves might get a hole in them, when gear ages it will decrease in rating points. Except for bats... which will start out weaker, become better when they're broken in, then start to decrease after a certain number of deliveries faced.

Other gear: I will be introducing shoes, helmets, thigh pads, chest guards etc but still have to work out how these items will affect you when playing. All ideas welcome on this.

Feedback is key. You're all tops.

OK... been advised about a couple of bugs with the gear bag so just checking those out now and will update the game again once fixed.

Bug: Gear bag ratings do not always display the correct rating

If you see any other bugs let me know: theonlinecricketgame@gmail.com

That's tops.

Hey this is great! Very enjoyable so far. I played a trial game and it was realistic for the most part. You seem to be updating pretty quickly too which is great to see.

Just a quick question: We can only play T20s as of now right?
And how do I save my player?

Hey Dravid Fan.

Thanks for the note :)

At the moment you can only play T20 matches, in future you will be able to play Club: T20, 1 day, and two day matches; First Class: T20, 1 Day, and Four day matches; International: T20, ODI, Test Matches... as well as some tournaments such as the IPL, World Cup etc.

I expect to have the 1 day and 2 day club matches ready by the end of January as there are a couple of things that tie into that (fixtures, proper seasons, competition trophies etc).

Regarding saving your player, you can't do this at the moment but I am getting a lot of requests for this to be added in so I have added it to my priority list and I should be able to have that working within the next week or two... so watch this space on that one.

Thanks for the feedback, i'm glad you're enjoying the game. I have a list of about 300 features that I want to implement (including basic stuff like adding wides, full seasons, full squad details etc) so keep checking the game out as there will be at least 1 new version going up each week.

If you want me to work on certain areas of the game that are annoying you then please let me know as I don't get enough time to do thorough testing at this stage and am relying on folks like yourself to provide feedback and bugs.

Thanks again Dravid Fan ... and good luck for the game today against NZ!

Regards
tocg

Hey Dravid Fan, good news - I worked on a basic Save and Load game function last night and have got that working.

I haven't uploaded this new feature yet but will do once I iron out a few of the bugs.

At this stage you will be able to save your game from the Home Screen (the screen with your career overview etc), and you can load the game from the initial screen that opens when you start the game.

I need to add in a 'Back to main menu' option which I'll also do before I upload the new version.

Thanks again for the feedback, keep it coming :)

Cheers cheers cheers people

TOCG, you seem quite dedicated to the game, good work, at least this should keep you out of trouble from the outer world haha.

Will give the game another go sometime and see if I can find anything for you to work on.
