Damien Martyn

Since I am still fairly new to cricket, I don't know the 'lehmann story'. Can you please expand on that a bit?

Oh well. His career has been wasted. He could've become a great batsman but they wasted his career.

Damien Martyns career has been wasted. He is 34. He'll play for another 2 years...maybe. he hasn't been doing too bad lately.

Yeah, it was against South Africa, where the Aussies were skittled for something like 129 (maybe wrong). Martyn, who was very young at that time, got out playing a horrible shot, I think he was the last man out, possible second last.

It is a bit harsh though, (I believe the Aussies lost by three runs) seeing as non of the experienced players did much better than him. To be dropped for 10 years must be a nightmare!

Mate, if you look at Damien Martyn's history, there are a couple of other examples where he was dropped when he didn't deserve to be. In that wonderfully tight loss to South Africa when he was a youngster. He was made a scape goat. And recently, he was also. He had one bad series, as all players do. Unfortunately it coincided with others also having bad series' (what is the plural of series?!).

The Aussie selectors had to appear to be doing something, and off went Martyn. Expect to probably see him back fr the South African series, if the new comers, or Clarke continue to fail. Martyn has been scoring runs for Western Australia, he may well still return to the test arena.

What about Katich? Clarke? Gilchrist the best keeper in the world. I really hope you meant the best keeper-batsman in the world, as fine player he is he is not the best gloveman around.

there were clearly a lot more players than just martyn who were out of form and avoided the chop saadadvanced. the selectors needed someone to blame for the loss and thus took it out on martyn.

no one is asking you to fix the problem, i'm just pointing out that it was a slight injustice, and this is the general feeling in Australia regarding Martyn's sacking

Martyn has always been a bit of a scape goat. When things aren't going well he is the first to be dropped.

Despite Martyn being in the form of his life before the ashes, his
dropping after his ashes failure proves how harsh the Australians can be.

the thing with Australian selectors is once you're dropped its probably unlikely you're going to get back into the team. The careers of Jason Gillespie and Martyn are all but over - look at Michael Bevan for example who dominated domestic cricket last year (average close to or on 100 in the First Class game) and did not even get a look in.

Plus Martyn had some pretty dodgey decisions in the Ashes, a couple of times there were clear inside edges which the umpire failed to pick up and he was given out LBW. In terms of strokeplay, Martyn was probably the best Australian batsman to watch in this team, the most like Mark Waugh in terms of finesse. Its a shame to see him dropped

Damien Martyn is a great batsmen but he is out of form. Look at the way he played in the ashes. That is why he was dropped, a crap batsmen.
When he is out of form he is BAD BAD BAD and more BAD. Wait until he gets into form and then pick him again and then he will make four centuries in four innings.

Martyn is a great player, he's struggling against England because we seem to bowl well at him, and set the right field.
