I think he has proven that he can replace Adam Gilchrist when he retires after the world cup or whenever, he played two match winning/saving knocks against India & West Indies hitting 4 sixes in each of those innings of 72 & 46. I think he is Australia's next wicket keeper if not then the only man who is capable of competing with him for that position is Queensland's Chris Hartley? What are your views on New South Welshman Brad Haddin? |

Berry retired 2 years ago.
The best keeper/batsmen after Gilly is Haddin. Hartly, Ronchi and Crosswaithe are impressive young prospects.

Luke Ronchi is a attacking keeper batsman like Gilchrist and South Australian Graham Manou while Croswaithe is just behind Haddin I reckon showing some promising signs in the domestic season last year.

He sure is a very good players. Performing iunder pressure situations against teams like India and West Indies, in his first series. He sure can replace Gilchrist. Hartley or whatever might be a good substitute.

as long as gilchrist plays he will never replace him but the selectors are already considering putting him in as just a batsman

Who said he would be as successful or opening he'd play at 7 like most batsman and he one his day can be just as aggresive as Gilly. |

I think Haddin is an excellent wicket-keeper and I do believe he has the ability to succeed Gilchrist when he retires. He was actually given his debut in the 2001 VB series against Zimbabwe and played well there, and he performed well in that game, and I was impressed by him straight away. He bats in the middle order, and not as opener, but Australia doesn't need a wicket-keeper opener, when they already have Hayden, Maher, Jaques, Langer etc in the squad, excluding Gilchrist. He has a good batting ability and a good keeping ability and I think he should and will bethe number one Australia wickie when Adam Gilchrist goes. |

They have only Jaques, Maher, and someone else. I forgot his name. He played in the DLF Cup. Hayden is going to retire. Thank God that most of the team are retiring by next World Cup. Atleast the fear will go away and they will be beatable once again.
Haddin, as I posted earlier, is a very good keeper-batsman. I'd have to say that I'm very impressed with him. Maybe not as good as Gilchrist, but certainly a Sangakarra or Boucher. |

Haddin is the wicket keeping version of MacGill. In another era he would have played 100 tests by now and be considered a champion. Unlucky.

What are you talking about we have so many people who can open: Hayden, Langer, maher, Cosgrove, Jaques, Hussey, Gilchirst, Martyn ( has a couple of tons as an opener ), and Watson ( has got a couple of 50s already )

The strength in Oz has stymied so many players - just think that Mike Hussey made his debut at 30 !!

It is for these reasons I respect Andrew Symonds so much. Despite his record of off field acts, he has stayed loyal to australian cricket when he was offered the chance to play for england. He would of played test cricket for england for years had he left our shores. Jacques being a keeper...... first I am hearing of it too. If he were surely the similarities to Gilly would have arisen by now. |
