I think i have the answer to this.
Sami bowled the fastest recorded delivery, at 164kph. But there were questions asked as to the reliability of this reading, and this ball is not recognised as the fastest ball. Shoaib has the record for the quickest delivery, at 161kph. No one has disputed this ball. Footage of both these deliveries can be seen on: http://howtobowlfastincricket.weebly.com/fastest-ball-in-cricket-history.html

Not well over 160. Just a fraction above it.

As I remember Shoaib holds the record for fastest ball and it came against India. Rahul Dravid was at the receiving end, it was a overpitched delivery on leg stump and played to short midwicket for no run. This is well over 160 KMPH.

Oh I see . You'll find that members tend to follow the
drift of the last couple of posters if they don't use the quote
function - that's why Bondy and myself couldn't make sense of your
message.

who really cares? doesnt matter how fast the ball is going, a ball going at 120 kph could do more damage than a ball going that fast??

Thats true, speed guns in general are inconsistant at best, I suppose the only real test would be to bat against it and see what you think but you wouldn't get me trying that even padded up the eyeballs. =p

Quite right not to trust the speedgun anyway. I commented on it at the time but in the T20 international here last year the speed gun had a Shoaib Akhtar slower ball coming out somewhere in the 90's, then he nearly took the batsman's head off with one allegedly at 68 (these are mph)

I don't know that's quite true kerm, I will never trust speedguns, plus you are basically wiping out all the bowlers before speedguns became fashionable. There was a series here a few years ago, billed as shoiab vs lee, I was at one of the games, and it just seemed that the organisers cranked the speedgun up a km or 2, other bowlers looked to be hitting the keepers gloves just as hard, but they had them about 15-20 km slower.

The fastest ball ever so far was from Shoiab, followed by Brett Lee, I imagine Tait will beat them eventually though.

I don't think Sami bowled it at 101mph and I have seen Lee hit 160.1 kph in the 2003 world cup.

1.Why the hell did you bring this topic back. 2.Sami never bowled at 101 mph. Why didn't it come in cricket records or in the Guiness Book. |

They should be bowling to a play if the ball is being driven. Otherwise they are over pitching. But the general idea is the "encourage the batsman to drive"

Any bowler hates being driven unless they are formulating a plan.

Mohammad Sami averages 49 with the ball in test cricket. I know I don't go on averages but he bowls pretty poorly. He hates being driven.
