As it's been winter over here in England I haven't been playing any cricket in the last couple of months, apart from maybe picking up an odd tennis ball in the garden and bowling it. Now today I got my bat, threw a ball against my garden wall and did some batting practice. But when I went out to bat everything seemed to miss the bat. I would say I threw around 50-60 balls against my wall today and I probably hit around 15-20 of them, and only three of them I got a decent hit on, the rest were defensive shots. The first one I hit along the ground and in a proper match would've gone for 4, the second one went flying over my neighbour's fence two doors down the road and the last one I skied onto the conservatory roof and got my bat confiscated by my mother.
Have you ever had one of those days when you seem to miss everything with the bat, and when it's happened to you is it just a one-off or does it take a while to get over? I think it may be just because I haven't played for a while, could anyone give me some tips on how to help with it.

One solutiion, just swing that willow! Automatic confidence booster! It's the reason why I improve drastically with my batting.

Anything outside off stump I swing at it anything down leg side I just let it go and anything going straight on I punish it for a dot ball. But everytime I swing I miss I use to be a good attacking batsman on the on side now i'm crap I can only play straight drives which are never timed properly that's why in 1 innings my score was 1 from 27. That one run I got was a slight edge down to third man I blocked that it was going for 4 but fielder was there. What a moment that was for me though getting that single felt like I just brought up my maiden century or took 5 wickets it was quite a moment. |

I don't see how you can punish it for a dot ball.

I had one of those days today. Last week everything would've gone for 4, today it went: Bowled, bowled, bowled....

I sort of sorted it out the next day, I defended the first few shots before nurdling the ball into areas of my garden, and then started attacking the ball and hitting some of them quite hard. I then did what you said spin wizard and swung my bat at the first ball. It made a brilliant clunking sound of leather against willow, I just had enough time to look up and seeing my ball sailing over next door's garage roof. I estimated that was a fairly ood hit however, I reckon from where I was stood to where the ball landed would've been approximately 50 metres.
