World Cup Memories

My highlight was 'that' akhtar delivery, since it was the only single thing i actually saw live on tv. Anything else i saw was replays or highlights

Probably my favourite is the tied semi of 1999. Another one a minnows point of view is Jon Davisons fanastic century and JB Burger the first Namibian to score a 50 smashing England around and had Namibia in a good position until he was dismissed.

Last world cup I think it was.....when west indies were playing against sri lanka and it was one of those knock out games.....Sarwan got injured while batting and had to leave the field. The windies were not a in a good position so he eventually came back on to bat and he was trying so hard to win the match for the west indies...however, we ended up losing and we were knocked out of the world cup!!! This was one of those "lowlights" as the starter of this thread put it.

In fact, that 1992 World Cup had lots of memories for South Africans... Remember Jonty Rhodes running out Inzamam ul Haq by diving into the stumps?

My first memory comes from WC 1992.SA returned from isolation, for their first ever WC match. Aus was the host of that WC, and they came of a lost in the opening match vs New Zealand. Aus won the toss and elected to bat, on what seem to be a belter of a wicket. First bowl of the Aus innings, Alan Donald bowled a pearl and Geoff Marsh nicked it to Dave Richardson, unfortunately for SA it was giving not out. Boon and Marsh then took it to the SA bowlers, but they soon fell to McMillan and Kuiper. When Allan Border was bowled first ball by Kuiper, a superb away swinger, the Aussies was in some trouble. In the end they could only manage 171/9 after 50 overs. SA came in to bat , and Hudson and Wessels made a solid start. Hudson was caught and bowled by Peter Taylor for 28, when Peter Kirsten joined Wessels. They took the game away from Aus with a unbeaten partnership. SA winning the game by 9 wickets. Wessels 81 not out and Kirsten 49 not out. This was a historic occasion for World Cricket and South - Africa.
