Pundits who have predicted a high scoring world cup are eating their humble pie. Tongue

Flipping of coin is almost deciding the winner in the last phase of the tournament

I am with Bangladesh, whether they win or lose.

South Africa are disappointing aren't they? On paper they have an excellent side, not so long ago they were the number one ranked side in ODI's.

Why can't they perform at World Cups? Its pathetic. I want to see them do well, losing to Bangladesh was inexcusable.

On a another note, good game last night. I was clubbing at the time and watched the beginning, ended up watching the rest of it at a mates house. From what I saw NZ had the better top pocket. SA threw the match with their batting. If they had made 40 more....
In saying that NZ bowled surperbly, thrilling performance.

My prediction, Aus vs either Sri Lanka or NZ in the final.
Good one Graham!

Wow!! NZ just seemed to have toyed with SA throughout that whole game.  The pitch played a huge role early on and SA never recovered.  It baffles me as to why SA fail at the most important time in a tournament.  The lack of a quality spinner is hurting SA now more than ever before.

SA do not deserve to win the WC this time around and I will be disappointed if they do.  The onus of stopping the Aussies now lies with SL and NZ.  Ive been hoping that NZ would do it all along in this tourny.  Some exciting matches are coming our way fellas....I, for one, cant wait.

I hope they do.....England havent been impressive but SA seem to have lost the spark.  So it will be an even contest.  Please O please let the top order fire for England.

Im hoping England wins so it makes the Eng-WI and possibly WI-BD matches important too.  If SA win those two games will be played just for pride.

Good performance from the Kiwi's. Man of the match should go to the coin, i mean come on, Franklins first delivery bouncing twice on the way to the keeper, and hes not exactly chris harris pace. Well bowled by Patel, as the pitches get slower and slower having one spinner who can really rip the ball(patel) and another who is just nagging and economical (vettori) could be a huge factor if NZ is to win the WC. SA's batting self destructing to Maccas club grade medium pace stopped them dead in their tracks at the end.

Flemings dismissial im not sure about, he seemed happy with the decision, but snicko picked up nothing. Semi Finals here we come!!

I wasnt following the game closely but from what I saw of Patel, I cant say he gives the ball a good rip.  He turns it a bit.

He does actually have the ability to turn the ball sharply in good conditions. I remember him causing Gilchrist some trouble in the Chappell/Hadlee series.

I'm bemused as to why they don't play him more often, or against Sri Lanka for that matter.
Good one Graham!

k guys Sri Lanka Australia tips?
I think the way the Aussies are going, no upset.
I hope Australia gets in to bat first to give our batters a chance to get some runs on the board

I love your confidence, but there is no doubt that Aussie are the favourites in this tournament and favourites for this match, just like they will be for the NZ match.  I'm not quite sure how you think he said 2 separate things either?

I found your last comment a bit strange.   Believe me, most kiwis want Sri Lanka to beat Australia.

How did I contradict myself? I said that it will either be NZ or Sri Lanka in the final vs. Australia. I never said anything about Sri Lanka beating Australia. And Australia will win the final no matter who plays in it.

Your confidence is a joke. I'm not upset that you beat us. We beat SA last night and if I remember correctly they beat you.

I wouldn't bother pursuing an argument with me mate. I do it for a living.

Since when did being a lawyer (or law student) make one infallible in cricket discussion?

And you've never gone off topic?

143.no chose to discuss that out of everything mentioned in my post, which included infallible cricket discussion and bold predictions I might add.

at least do us all the courtesy of explaining why you claiming to be a lawyer means that no one is allowed to disagree with you Smile

It wasn't a matter of disagreeing with me. It was a matter of Jayasuria looking for an argument when I had clearly stated my point. He was arguing against something he misinterpreted.

I was then being facetious in explaining that by me being a lawyer....blah blah blah.

My point being that one is allowed to disagree with me by all means. However if one is going to misinterpret or misread what I said then that's their problem and will only look like a fool as a result.
Good one Graham!

East Pakistan....funny....talk about hanging on to the past ;-)

Never thought about it being the day that India would have played Pakistan....how different this day would have been.  All the anticipation, all the excitement ....for me personally anyway.

However, getting back to the present....great win for Ireland.  Thoroughly deserved too.  They paced their innings well with the acceleration at the end to post a challenging total.  Well done!!!

Thanks for catching the historical joke. Wink  Even the commentators mentioned that before the 1970's, Pakistan fielded two cricket teams. And yes the much anticipated India vs Pakistan WC square-off did not occur...No one to blame but themselves for that.

Today, Bangladesh lived up to the sub-continental trend of inconsistency. I was pondering they would be the perfect nation to avenge Pakistan's knock-out.
Sakib-Ul-Hasan's runout was quite unfortunate. With him and Ashraful on the crease Bangladesh could have comfortably cruised to the target or at least lessened the pressure for Bashar and Rafique.
