As you may know I am an off-break bowler, and because I've never really been able to extract a lot of turn form my off-breaks I've decided to mess about with how I grip the ball, so instead of using a normal grip I've come up with a new style of grip (I've called it the fork grip).

Basically by the fork grip I mean you basically grip the ball in the shape of a fork, you put your middle finger on the seam and your other two fingers on either side of the seam on the sides of the ball, I've tried it and managed to extract quite a bit of turn with the ball on concrete, so I don't know how much turn I can get from it on a normal wicket but I'm fairly confident of it being a decent way to grip the ball.

Because of the way the ball s gripped as well you could in theory use it to bowl off break, leg break, medium pace and maybe even fast bowlers could use it, but I've never seen it used by anyone else and I was wondering if anyone else used it. I think it's a fairly effective way to bowl so try it.

I might give that a try next time I bowl.

It might not work on a normal wicket because concrete grips a ball better than grass/ normal wicket. Hope it works out for you, but i'm going to stay with my same grip.

don't you generally grip across the seam, which allows you to impart more spin on it.
Interesting theory, but I'll stick to the orthodox grip for my off-breaks. Might give it a quick try, though.

.

That is the general coaching method, although some people don't feel comfortable holding the ball across the seam, and a scrambled seam allows for more disguise.

I know some one who bowls leg breaks like that he does not get alot of turn but gets enough, he uses his fingers rather than his wrist

If your not getting alot of spin try spreading your fingers less over the seam.  If its uncomfortable to hold then bring your fingers in more.  I practise on grass and when i go to the nets which are concrete i have to turn it up a bit to get spin.

Sorry, unless the English concrete is different to Scottish concrete, it doesn't spin.

Some concrete spin more than some. I have played on 2 type of concrete surface and one turned more than the other. One was a bit rougher and the other had like a sheen so the ball skidded. I had real hell batting on it saturday!

i have to say to stop your row Tongue i think it depends completly on your delivery if your somneone who tosses it up alot normally finger spiners you are likely to get more turn on grass well short grass and wrist spinners who tend to send it at a more reasonable pace down the pitch i would have thought it would have turned the same depending on the net and grass i suppose.

i agree with fishy, concrete doesnt spin much at all but you still get plenty of wickets from the weird bounce
