Thanks guyz, looks like tips worked better..this time, of course with practice in the nets. My stats looked like 5-2-9-3 (one bowled to a inswinging yorker at offstump base, one lbw again inswing and one LHB bowled to a full toss that was swinging away from him). I practiced with a reduced runup a little , aimed right 4 inches outside off and the ball always looked like knocking the offstump. varied the length ..and the result.. Once again thanks |

If you're a natural swinger of the ball it's a criminal waste to be bowling when the ball doesn't swing, just because you had a bit of trouble controlling the swing, far better to work hard on control rather than pussying out of bowling altogether and becoming a (yawn!) trundler. If the ball swings consistently, then getting control shouldn't be a problem, all you need to do is get used to bowling a wider line, as smack suggested, it will probably take time to adjust but will be worth it. If the problem is that sometimes the ball is swinging and sometimes it isn't, then you obviously don't have a consistent action and will need to work on that. Just bowl for hours in the nets, notice when you swing and when you don't and see if you can spot anything you're doing differently. Also, get someone else to watch you because it's often easier to spot from the outside.

I used to have the same problem, and did exactly what smack said. Instead of aiming at off, or middle and off, I took aim between six and 8 inches outside off, and it started to come good. But also sometimes when I try to put extra effort in or I tend to start to think about length too much, I get a bit "lazy" in my action, which means my arm doesn't come through vertically and it can go literally anywhere... |

I swing both ways - but only when I'm bowling!

It depends on the length of your matches. If you play 40 overs or more then you should ask to bowl after 20 overs. The ball is still quite hard and new at just 13 overs. If your playing less than 40 overs then you haven't got much choice.
Yes i think what you've understood is what i meant. When your hand is about to let go of the ball, it is probably tilted to the right, because of this the ball is going down the legside. If you try and tilt your wrist a bit to the left or even to keep it completely straight then the ball shouldn't go down the legside. Its a very difficult thing to do but all the best fast bowlers have excellent control of their wrist.

Smack, I agree to what u said towards the end ..take it when older.... it happened also when I opted to take the ball after drinks break 13 overs... but still i can see ball swinging more than what the opening pair produced.. may be the ball was properly worked upon... I didn't get the funda of what u tipped of tilting the wrist to offside (keeping in mind tilt of wrist changes during delivery)... does it mean that during the delivery try tilting my wrist from left to right (for right hand bowlers)... instead of me naturally tilting to left from right ?

I sometimes have the same problem. What i used to do was try and hit middle and off stump, the ball would start off there then swing down the leg side. So now i aim about 6-8 inches outside offstump. Another thing you can do is adjust your wrist position. Tilt your wrist slightly to the offside and it should give you better control over the swing.
If you still have problems just ask your captain to bowl you when the ball is old so it wont swing as much.

I bowl over the wkt. RM with natural inswing action and ability ..I am looking for help -- to control my line. my inswingers happen to swing too much and go past leg side for wides .... i cant get a control over that ball to hold its line.. .. I was fed up of giving away those extras @ 2 an over... I then change my delivery like try for outswing ..for getting control over ball. But I am looking to take advantage of my natural abilities...
I would be thankful to you guyz, if you can help me out with tips ..so that i can improve in my practice sessions before a match thats in 2 weeks time ..
