Hearty congratulations to Durham , thoroughly deserved their maiden county championship after winning more games than anyone else. Those 60 wickets from Steve Harmison were very welcome , but it was a real team effort.
Total disaster for Kent though , how can such a talented mob get relegated?  Maybe they need to bring in a curator who'll liven up that Cantebury pitch.
Lancashire and Yorkshire managed to get out of jail , with the former winning their last two matches. Good win it was too in the last match. I won't go into details , but if you're interested just ask JP !Wink

We just need to nobble Steven Croft - he was outstanding last night in their one run win over Nottinghamshire.

We're trying our 'forget how to bat on day one before recovering later on' strategy again. It will be severely tested against Harmison though.

We need wickets, and quickly this morning, else the Championship will have to wait for another year. I'm not tetchy, as Sledge puts it as I think all Somerset fans are delighted that we are where we are and not battling relegation.

Big game on Sunday against Lancashire - the winner earns a spot in a play-off to stay in Pro40 Division One.

A good day for Durham yesterday , as they dismissed Somerset for just 224 after Langer decided to bat first. Fine performance by Steve Harmison too , who took 5-84 with some quite hostile bowling. At the close Durham were 45-1 and in a good position to go on and win even though day 1 was a complete wash out.
I expect JP is a little tetchy this morning !

Two wins needed - Shoaib has a big job on !

Big match in Div 1 starts today - Durham away to Somerset.  Harmison plays and that Taunton pitch won't do him any favours. Bowling the home side out twice will take some doing. I'll go with the draw because of the pitch and the English weather!
Both have 3 matches left , Notts just 2 - down to the wire !

Do Surrey have to win both thier games in order to avoid relegation? or a win and a draw will do it?

Sums up Surrey's atrocious season really, trying to bring in the most unpredictable player in world cricket without any paperwork to play just 3 championship games. i can't believe how badly we've done this season and it just shows how bad we are without 2000+ runs from Ramprakash.

What I find surprising is that he flew in at all. Surely Surrey and Shoaib knew that there was paperwork that needed sorting out first ?

It never seems to stop for Shoaib one way or the other. He is now sent back to pakistan from the airport only. He cant play for Surrey.

I think it is a bit late for him to gain much more in that respect, though I did wonder if he was bowling a bit within himself with it being a limited overs game

Thanks for that Clobs, sounds like he has nice control.  Do you think he'll put on a yard or two to give him that chance of going beyond the decent , into something a bit special ?

He's another player I've never seen , just how promising is he , any views from the English cricket followers here ?

I made a point of having a good look at him when Kent were on TV tonight. He's not express pace by any means, but has a physique that suggests he can hustle a batsman, with a slingy action that gives him a nice natural outswinger. That combined with the suggestion he can swing it in as well makes him a handy proposition at county level.

Unless the world tilts Lancashire's chances of winning the county championship will remain a distant dream.  Those southerners just don't appreciate how lucky they are - if Old Trafford goes a full 4 day game without rain it compares with Moses' miracle of parting the Red Sea !

We made 457 all out and they're currently 105-1 in their 2nd innings.

I can see Rashid, McGrath and Rudolph bowling plenty in this with the old ball, but the new ball should see only 2 people bowl, Hoggard and Kruis.

We know how Gough works though so expect him to try and show how great he is and get slogged.

I'd have preferred to see Shahzad in there if it was necessary for another seamer, but I'd have picked Lawson (Leg spinner) or Wainwright (LAO) to use the surface better.

I noticed that there's no play again at Blackpool Sledge. 3 days in a row you've had the rain.

Tyke got his wish , Yorkshire were 409-7 at stumps on day 2. The 20 year old Adam Lyth , playing on his home ground for the 1st time for the county made a crisp 68 and Jaques Rudolph became the 2nd South African to make a hundred in the match.  A win here will kill off any thoughts of relegation and cheer up Tykey no end !

Aye, Vaughan's got a lot of work to do but Scarborough's definitely no place to try regain form with the bat.
I mean, even Gough picked up some wickets.

We need a big partnership or two today to have a good chance of a win.

If we can get to 400 then I'll be over the moon because Hoggard and Kruis will cause chaos with the new ball and Rashid will run through them on days 3 and 4.

Not a fan of fishing mate, too much sitting around doing nothing.

I can't even sit still in a pub for too long unless there's some decent sport on.
I'll be finding myself a pool or snooker table close by if I have to keep myself sane. Don't mind darts either.

The fishing's good too mate , I always found that supping and casting a fly went rather well together.

EDIT:  Just seen that Vaughan failed in his 1st innings back Tykey , nicking a wide one behind for just 10 !  Long way back for the top man.

I'm hoping chester's a good course (and a lucky one for me as well )

I'll have to take whatever cricket I can mate, and seeing as though it's only likely to be rain affected draws up at Old Trafford I'll watch and play whatever and wherever I can.

Who knows, maybe I can teach the lads in North Wales to play cricket (although trying to get them to play anything other than Rugby Union will almost be impossible)

All things aren't looking that bad for Yorkshire at the moment, but I reckon Kent must hate seeing North Marine Road. They're the only team I know that we play against there.
Our bowlers did the hard work yesterday and now we need to bat well, something we've not done much this season (since the return of Gough from injury but I'm a bit biased when it comes to Gough )
