Maybe I'll re-word my previous comment - fast bowlers are much more valuable in a cricket side than medium pace bowlers. I might be biased (bowling seam up myself) but I'd still go with trying to become a seam bowler. Generally speaking, there are 3 spots in a cricket team for quick bowlers, and only 1, at most 2 spots in a team for a spinner. |

From being a spinner, I can safely say that a surface doesn't matter one bit if you know what you're doing in relation to turning a ball. The way Warne got the ball to go through the air, seam in a perfect angle, not too slanted although he did that at times plus the sideways rotation along with revs means that the surface didn't matter at all.

Dead right Sledger.
Warne was useful on any wicket, even a green top. But then someone like Brett Lee was really poor in England as compared to the way he bowled in South Africa or Australia. It's a definite misnomer that spinners are less useful on wickets that don't turn square. Most of Warne's wickets came from straight deliveries ! |

Ideal cricketer: Bowl like Warne, bat like Tendulkar, field like Jonty!!

Not so , the reason the game is so fascinating is simply because there are so many facets to the game. Bowlers Muralitharan and Warne , in their prime ,wouldn't be turned down by any side currently playing test cricket. And the surface wouldn't matter either! |

I'd go with bowling medium pace (much easier than mastering spin in a short space of time). Whilst you're at it, why don't you try bowling fast? Fast bowlers are much more valuable in a cricket side.

If you have the dedication, stick with the spin. You will be a greater weapon and be able to more overs than a medium pacer.

Clobber is right. You can bowl straight spin and take wickets in the West Indies. If you're not turning it and have no variations, might as well try and turn over some gentle medium pacers and when you get older and stronger, increase the pace a bit and do some Ian Harvey style bowling.

In my view you should only bowl spin if you can actually spin it - otherwise you might pick up a few cheap wickets at lower levels but you will get slaughtered by any decent player you encounter.

Have to agree with sledge here. Unless you can bowl a huge amount of variation off cutters, leg cutters, effort ball, at least 2 kinds of slower ball as well as stock standard perfect line and length then spin is the way to go.

Bowl spin mate, you'll get loads of wickets. Nowadays West Indians are quite weak against spin.

If you want to play as a all-rounder than Medium pace is a better option but if you only want to bowl than Leg spin is the right option. |
