Topic: Twenty/20 Cup Posted: 07 June 2005 at 9:48am |
Who is going to win the UK Twenty/20 Cup which starts on June 22nd?
The bookies say Surrey, i tip Hampshire.

I really don't know who to favor.
I reckon a real outsider will prevail maybe i dunno Kent?

I have absolutely no idea who's going to win, so I shall keep my Somerset hat on and claim we're going to win.
A top order of Smith, Jayasuriya and maybe Trescothick could do some real damage.

See with me saying Kwnt it was just a completely random guess! I just picked a side and said why not them?
So when does the Twenty20 season start?
Will it affect the or should i say be affected by the International line up? If so sides like Surrey could well suffer.

Starts on the 22nd June, which is right in the middle of the NatWest series, so it will definitely be affected by the internationals. Quarter finals on the 18th July, Semi finals and final on the 30th.
Incidentally, the bookies give Kent more chance than Somerset. The real outsiders are Durham, Northants, Derbyshire and Sussex.

Yeah i'd figured that a couple of those would rank outsiders especially if Durham have no Harmisson as they're practically a one man team.
If the Internationals do affect it then maybe a team like Glamorgan might prevail as they do have a strong line up and not too many international players?
Hampshire are gonna be screwed royally with this!

You're right about Durham - they'll lose Collingwood (who is in excellent form right now) as well for the one dayers. It's all looking good for Somerset, we'll only lose Trescothick, who has probably forgotten what it's like to bat for his county, and certainly hasn't scored any sort of runs for us in years, so it may be a blessing in disguise.
Kent will lose your favourite Geraint Jones though How will they cope?

God forbid Kent will have to rent out someone from the local Zoo to replace him. I mean people used to say that Sampras looked like a baoon but this guys i mean he's a complete and total primate!
Anyway it seems Trescothic is still in the runs for his country so maybe it just shows that most county opposition is tougher to face than Bangladesh?
God England are gonna get a rude awakening when they wake up to Australia!

True with your comment about Bangladesh, but I'm going to stick up for Trescothick and say he is one of those players who adapted better to the International game (and certainly took his chance when presented) than he might have been expected given his county record. Simon Jones is another.

Yeah very true. For some reason he takes tothe bigger stage better than he does at the local level. Though he has to hope he doesn't have another hurrendous Ashes series because now if he gets dropped (which i doubt) given his county performances i very much doubt he'd ever make it back into the England team.

Living in Essex my loyalties lie there. But Somerset r my outside bet if players like Jayasuriya, Graeme Smith, Trescothick and Blackwell click then they will do well. But counties like Surrey and Lancashire should b there or there about.

Twenty/20 Cup starts today:
Following on from England’s emphatic 100-run win over the Australians in their first ever NatWest International Twenty20, counties are reporting high advanced ticket sales with many games already sold out.
The competition, now in its third year, has been extended and each county now has four home matches. The off-pitch entertainment has also been stumped up with more activities on offer than ever before.
At New Road spectators have the opportunity to “Grab a Grand” courtesy of local Estate Agents, Premier Places, along with many other prizes. A wedding reception will take place on the boundary beach in their sell-out clash with local rivals Gloucestershire Gladiators on Saturday July 2.
Essex Eagles are offering the opportunity to watch “Cricket from the Drive-In” and have stationed two Ford Street Ka convertibles on the boundary edge at The Ford County Ground for lucky winners to watch the cricket from.
The army are heading to Sophia Gardens for Glamorgan Dragon’s clash against Somerset Sabres. They will be joined in the hot tubs by a group of cheerleaders and radio presenters.
Matches start at 5.30pm and floodlit matches start at 7.30pm unless otherwise stated. Televised matches start ten minutes later at 5.40pm and 7.40pm respectively.

We have now reached the quarter finals stage in da 20-20 cup. I think Lancashire wiil win da tournament with Mal Loye and Brad Hodge in da opening slots arguably da most destructive pair in da game this year.
Da draw is as followed:
Northants vs Somerset
Surrey vs Warwickshire
Leicestershire vs Middlesex
Lancashire vs Derbyshire

Surrey vs Warwickshire what an amazing game going down to a bowl off. What do u guys think of a bowl off when watching the highlights on Sky it looks quite easy.
semi final line up:
Surrey vs Lancashire
Somerset vs Leicestershire
I say Lancashire vs Somerset in the final.

We won! And you all thought I was joking when I said we'd win, didn't you? Matt Wood was brilliant and Graeme Smith led us brilliantly to victory.
