    Posted: 01 March 2009 at 12:19pm
And we're off and running with the JPPL - the JP Premier League. I've finally brought everything together and the matches are underway.

These are the teams involved and the managers:

Surrey Sloggers: slogger
Freuchie CCC: robbie
Caribbean Blasters: Spin Wizard
Melbourne Masters: bladescape
Kolkata Knight Riders: dips_december
Canterbury Crushers: NZ_Fast
West Yorkshire Wildcats: The Tyke
Blackpool: Monty
Hyderabad Victors: sam_ahmed
Perth Giants: mystery

Remember, when you're picking your team you can give each player an aggression rating (1-10) for bowling and batting, and an overall aggression rating for the team.

Also pick your opening bowlers, who you want to bowl and your wicket-keeper and what you want to do if you win the toss.

Home teams must decide on the pitch they prepare and have three options:

State of the pitch (1-5) Excellent -- Good -- Normal -- Worn -- Green
Bounce (1-5) Very high - High - Normal - Lowish - Low
Outfield (1-5) Very fast - fast - normal - slow - heavy

The money you have remaining, and the money you gain from attendances (remember, press releases help in getting more people into the ground) can be used for transfers with other managers, stadium expansion or relocation or buying other players which haven't been picked up.

I would also bookmark the following link as it has all the information from the sim: http://www.originalonion.com/cricketsim/pbmindex.htm

So without further ado, the headlines from the first round of fixtures (click the above link for scorecards, averages, fixtures, etc.):

THRILLER AT CHRISTCHURCH GOES DOWN TO THE WIRE

DRAVID ON SONG FOR THE KNIGHT RIDERS

PERTH UNDONE BY FREUCHIE'S AUSSIES

TENDULKAR BRILLIANT, MARTIN BETTER

MELBOURNE RELY ON ASIAN BATSMEN

I'll be sending PMs to managers with details of injuries in their squad and morale ahead of the second round of fixtures which are:

Blackpool v Kolkata
Caribbean v Perth
Freuchie v Canterbury
Hyderabad v W Yorks
Melbourne v Surrey

I've just realised that some of the PMs I've sent out have the wrong fixtures in them. Please ignore those and refer to the fixtures above or on the web page as they are correct!

@ Slogger: I've fixed that now and it's working

@ bladescape: You can post them in this thread - I'll close the other one now as it's served its purpose.

For me, performance of that round was Freuchie hitting over 400 on a difficult pitch at Perth so well done them. Happy to have got everything going with (just about) everything in working order!

Aiming to get the next games done on Wednesday.

PHEW!! I knew our teams were evenly matched, but it took some Bond magic to pull it off.

Going to need some deep thought about my next team....

Bladescape talked to a few of our reporters after the match:

"I'm happy with the team performance,Rashid,Nannes and Badri especially.
I always knew Rashid would perform and Badrinath had a bone to pick with the other managers who said the middle order was week.
Nannes surprised me with his excellent bowling.
Taibu didn't let us down behind the stumps either.

I've instructed the the groundsman to construct and excellent pitch and a very fast outfield with very high bounce to go with it.
Our team for the match looks something like this:
G.Smith
P.Hughes
F.Alam
S.Badrinath
Y.Singh
A.Rashid
T.Taibu
N.Bracken
D.Nannes
W.Parnell
M.Muralidaran

The only change is Parnell in for Siddle as we'll go for a all left arm pace attack.
Our batting should be allright on a batters pitch."
You know, I'm trying to decide whether to change my siggy or not...

When reporters finally caught up with Canterbury owner NZF he had this to say: "I'm extremely proud of the lads. We knew it was going to be a tough game, and we perhaps didn't execute our plans quite as we wanted, but Bondy stepped up to the plate, and used his experience to ultimately pull off a tight win.  I will probably look at changes for the next game, but I will have to wait and see once we arrive what the conditions hold."

Have you got a starting line up for us robbie?

yes the starting line up will be as follows

1. Simon Katich
2. Marcus Trescothick
3.Ramnaresh Sarwan(c)
4.Kumar Sangakarra(keeper)
5.Michael Clarke
6.Owais Shah
7.Yasir Arafat(b)
8.Graeme Swann(b)
9.Mark Davies(b)
10.Zaheer Khan(b)
11.Imran Tahir(b)

with the only change being Kallis out and Imran Tahir in

That is quite a big decision can you tell us the reasons behind it?

well we had a big debate at the selction meeting and we decided the pitch would favour spinners so we felt since he didn't perform as well as other the last round of games he would be the one to be pushed out. If it wasn't a spinners pitch he would definatly have stayed in the team.

So what are the pitch conditions for your meeting with Canterbury?

The pitch has high bounce(2) and a worn pitch(4) the outfield is pretty slow(4).

It was romoured that Trescothick's morale was low and that he would not be playing this game but you seem to have picked him.

yes we have talked to Marcus and he has agreed to play and he is feeling better now.

Have you got any news on agression levels of all the batsman?

the same as before but Imran Tahir level 3 and obviously Kallis is out so we wont need his. It is also worth noting we will be using the same opening bowlers this match.

Are you worried about Shane Bond?

well he took 9 wickets last match so obviously there is a thought into him but the pitch shouldn't favour him too much so that definatly helps

The Manager of Hyderabad Victors team was intervied after his teams narrow loss to canterbury, this is what he had to say:

Q) it must be dissapointing to have lost so narrowly?
S_A) well obviously every defeat is dissapointing and so is this but i'm still very happy with the way my boys have performed. i'd also want to congratulate canterbury team on a thrilling win... hopefully we'll have the result in our favour when they come here for the return game.

Q) what do you think was the main cause of your defeat?
S_A) well in a game as close as this you can never really say what changed the game but still i think we needed some good starts but failed to get them, so there was some extra pressure on the middle order.

Q) Any changes for the next game?
S_A) ya, salman has had an off day, so we've decided to leave him out and bring in the experienced michael vaughan to open up with amla. salman is a very important member of our side, but at the moment his morale is low so we'll just give him a game off so that he can get back in good touch and be up for it again.
Broad is unlucky to miss out. he will be replaced by shakib as the track will be conjutive to spin i believe later in the game.

Q)Your thoughts about your opponent?
S_A) Yorkshire have a number of new faces in their line up but still we are not under estimating their ability. they are a very good side and we'll have to be at our best to beat them. also if you observe blackpool was talked about as the strongest team prior to the first round but at the moment they are bottom of the table. so you can never predict things in this glorious game...

Thanks for your time sam... all the best for the next game...

Jaques
Gibbs
Ponting (vc)
Hodge
Prince
Dhoni (wk, C)
Ten doeschate (b)
Munaf Patel (b)
Panesar (b)
Ntini (1)
Bond (2)

Due to his busy schedule, NZF released this press statement via his public blog once again. "I've decided to stick with almost the same team, making just one change with Patel in for Sidebottom. Unfortunately Sids didn't really perform last game despite the bowler friendly conditions, so we decided to bring in Munaf who is more familier with this type of pitch condition. We decided against the extra spinner because it is not spin friendly enough to justify inclusion of another. We will use 6 aggression again, but with Ten doeschete using 4 aggression for his bowling and Prince using 5 aggression for his batting."

Right then I got my pc fixed. Had it virus infected. I'll go with the PM I sent you JP. Same team and the pitch will he hard and bouncy and the outfiled will be fast.

Bose : Conditions were ideal.

Bengal and KKR medium pacer spoke to the press after his briiliant display of hostile swing bowling.

Rep : That was a very good performance from you, are you happy with it?
Bose : Yea I am pretty relieved. I played alongside some big names and bowled to some big names so I was pretty nervous at the start but Dada showed faith in me and I am glad I delivered.

Rep : The pitch was an ideal one for swing bowling wasn't it?
Bose : Absolutely. The ball swung and moved and we had the perfect bowlers for the pitch. Vaasy, me and Jimmy are all swing bowlers and we bowled in the right places and bowled well.

Rep : How was it like bowling alongside Vaas?
Bose : It was an excellent experience. Bowling alongside one of the greats of the game was a new experience for me. I enjoyed bowling alongside him.

He signed off.

West Yorkshire Wildcats XI

Batting lineup and their Aggressions

Andrew Puttick A.L = 5

Imraan Khan A.L = 6

Michael Carberry A.L = 5

Ajinkya Rahane A.L = 7
Malinda Warnapura A.L = 5

Heino Kuhn (Wk.) A.L = 6

David Wiese A.L = 8

James Hopes A.L = 6

David Wainwright A.L = 4 (Designated Night-watchman)

Saqlain Mushtaq A.L = 4 (Capt.)

Lonwabo Tsotsobe A.L = 2

Bowlers and their Aggressions

Lonwabo Tsotsobe - 7 (Opens the Bowling)
David Wiese - 7 (Shares the New Ball)

James Hopes - 5
Saqlain Mushtaq - 6
David Wainwright - 6

If we win the Toss - Bowl

After defeat to Melbourne in the opening fixture of the JPPL, changes have been made to the side to face the Hyderabad Victors.
Left Arm Spinner David Wainwright is in the team at the expense of Matthew Hoggard, who had a highly ineffective first match.

On the batting side of things, the Wildcats have made 4 changes. Imraan Khan, Michael Carberry and Malinda Warnapura come into the lineup with Murray Goodwin, Ross Taylor and Jaques Rudolph all making way after below par performances. Ajinkya Rahane will bat at 4 and will be wary that he had a bad match last time out so must improve.

How disappointed are you with this result? In one word, Very. Although it was a reasonable difficult pitch to bat on, we really did not step up and grind out the runs. Even after conceding a smallish first innings lead we knew we could still win with a bit determination, but we didn't utilize the conditions enough. In hindsight, the decision to only play one spinner.....? In hindsight would we play another spinner? No i don't think so, not against this team. We all believed monty would get the job done, but he really failed to utilize the conditions available to him, and he knows now he is under a lot of pressure to perform. The emergence of Munaf? He was always my 3rd choice seamer, but we went with Sids in the first game because the conditions suited his bowling style so much more. What changes are you looking at for the next game? I can't really say anything about that yet, the team and I are yet to have a proper debrief session but some changes are almost certain for the next game. People are talking about Dhoni's form, is it an issue? Any batsmen not performing is an issue, but we believe he will come right, and if he doesn't, Matty Prior is an excelent replacement. Shane Bond, people are worried if he breaks down your attack is almost toothless. Those people are wrong, Ntini and Patel are world class and Maharoof and Sids are very good backup. Don't forget we also have two classy spinners other than Panesar. Lastly, ten Doeschate, fans are worried he is out of his depth. Well i'm not surprised, he is untested at this level, however he has already shown he is well suited to this level, chipping in with wickets, and scoring a fifty on a green top in the first round.

dips_december : Series living upto the hype

KKR manager dips_december spoke to the media after a narrow victory against Blackpool.

Reporter : Are you happy with your performances in the two matches so far?
dips : Yes I am pretty pleased. The results have gone our way so far and I am looking forward to seeing better performances in the upcoming matches. The results so far have been satisfactory.

Rep : The bowlers deserve special mention don't they?
dips : Yea they have been fantastic but then again cricket is a team game. The batsmen have backed up the bowlers' performances which is why we have been successful.

Rep : How is the morale in the dressing room?
dips : Winning always keeps you in high spirits. The dressing room morale is absolutely perfect. The players are full of confidence and are enjoying every aspect of the game.

Rep : What about the bench players?
dips : Look you can only give 11 players a chance at a time. There are some quality players like Malik and Dinda who are warming the benches. They will all get a game and I am sure they will have their opportunities as well.

Rep : Brendan Nash has not looked in great touch so far. So is there any possibility of change?
dips : Yea he has not done well so far and there are other players waiting in the fringes. We will have a meeting and find the best way out.

Rep : Sourav Ganguly has not played well either, is he under pressure to perform?
dips : Look, Sourav has played 13 years of international cricket and we all know what he is capable of. No one should question his place in the team. He got some runs against Blackpool and its only a matter of time before he gets over his rustiness and gets back to the free flowing Ganguly we are used to seeing.

Rep : The league has finally got off to the much awaited start. Your views so far on the league and future expectations?
dips : The series has certainly lived upto its hype. The players have done well and the standard of cricket has been brilliant. I am looking forward to seeing much more competitive matches and better performances from all the players.

Rep : No home games yet. Aren't you getting impatient?
dips : Not really. The crowd in Kolkata will be eagerly waiting for it though. Home matches will mean much more fun, much more support and automatically much improved performances. Its important that we take one game at a time and not think too far ahead.

Rep : Thank You.
dips : It was a pleasure.

The KKR management decided to drop Brendan Nash and bring in Shoaib Malik, the Pakistan all-rounder, in his place. There were some discussions made about de Villiers as well but he has been given another chance. Wriddhiman Saha will have to wait a bit longer it seems.

Team for match against Surrey.

David Hussey (6)
Sourav Ganguly (c) (5)
AB de Villiers (+)
Shoaib Malik (7)
Chaminda Vaas (1)
Daniel Vettori (4)
James Franklin (3)
Ranadeb Bose (2)

I'd want Malik and Ganguly to bowl some overs JP. Ganguly has been long known as a partnership breaker.
