Just a few days before this starts, Musfiqur Rahim's first assignment as captain and these are two sides desperate for a series win, still no Chris Gayle for WI, I'd say WI will start off as favorites in both tests and ODI's. However, last year BAN did managed to beat NZL 4-0 so at home they can be a dangerous side, should be a good contest, big test for BAN to show their competitiveness, big chance for WI to get back to winning ways before they take on India. Very Important series this for both the teams.

West Indies just had a mini tour over in Dubai.  They lost to the HPC (Windies Academy) but defeated UAE and Afghanistan in their other games.  One of my best friend plays for the HPC and he had a very good game against UAE or the Afghans, taking a 4 fer and making 31.  He bowls leggies - would love to see him make it far.  He's a lot fitter than most West Indians and can handle the willow alright too.  Just gotta work real hard on his bowling and all will be well.

WI are a much better team than that No.8 ranking in ODI's suggests, they are definitely far better than BAN, but then that doesn't mean this will be a cake walk by any means.

BAN can possibly win the ODI's but that still won't make them a better team than the WI, tests (where WI are actually No.7 ahead of NZL) should be won by the WI, one thing is for sure, one team will be a happy unit by the end of this series as both these teams are desperate for a series win and someone is gonna win.

Windies will have a pretty good bowling attack to take on Bangladesh.  Their batting against spin is what will worry me.

Can't see Windies losing. They have a pretty rounded attack. They just need to apply themselves better in the batting department. Bangladesh should not be a threat in tests - but then, they should not be playing tests either.

Look out for Roach, not necessarily with the new ball but he's going to cause plenty mischief on those Bangladeshi batsmen when the ball gets older.  I think it's rare to find a West Indian who bowls better with an older ball but that's Kemar Roach.

Roach is a favourite of mine... no one else seems to rate him too highly. He's still inconsistent, but he's not even 25 yet. When you can hit 150kph and you have decent accuracy, with an excellent action, then you'll get success at some stage. He's not going to be a Dale Steyn, but if he can be a Jimmy Anderson then that's good enough!!!!!

Roach will be devastating on his day , but I think in this series Rampaul will be very difficult for any of BAN batsman to handle.

BAN's only hope is spin, if WI play spin well ..then there this will be absolutely no contest.

Good to see you Amal!

Great win for Bangladesh indeed and Mushfiqur leading from the front was even more special. Bangladesh are a tough side at home and just the time for them to show some character and start winning games under a new captain, well done Bangla boys!!! Thumbs Up

Well done to Mushfiqur! Nice start to his captaincy and this Windies side is a decent scalp. Mind you, they were missing their 2 best players - Pollard and Gayle. So it's not an accurate reflection of how good WI are. Samuels had an excellent all round game though, his efforts were in vain.

I didn't quite saw the match as I was at the Airport, managed to see Dhoni though landing here for the first game against ENG, surrounded by fans and security guards, Dhoni looked clam and cool as always!

coming back to the game, it is good for WI that Samuels can bowl again, I doubt if Gayle will be back anytime soon, but still WI shouldn't be too much worried abut this game, they remain favts for the ODI's and tests.

Finally a player that looks interested in captaincy hopefully its just a start for BD team.
Pollard was never a good player only people are making him look like a world class player but the real thing is he is a nothing player even he has done nothing in IPL or CL. Its good that Samuels can bowl again finally a decent allround player.

Mystery is right about Pollard.  He hardly ever performs - his fielding is Magnificent and his bowling isn't bad and hits a quick 20 runs but that's about it.  I believe his fielding is what is keeping him around in the Mumbai xi.  As much as I criticize him not being a good player, he is really outstanding in the field and takes valuable catches for Mumbai.

All the best with your studies Amal, and yes keep posting!

Pollard is over rated, I agree on that, I don't know why Dwayne Bravo is not a part of the ODI squad? That is surprising.

WI win the first game very easily, big ton for Simmons and handy contribution from Samuels. Once again BAN were not able to catch up once WI got off to a good start, anyways good win for WI and BAN need to fight back strongly in game 2.

I am sure Bangladesh have better players than Ashraful around - if not I have no hopes from them for the foreseeable future.

Samuels looks in good form, wonder how he will fair against the big guns though.

Ashraful is rubbish and is riding on his 2005 performance against Australia and his debut ton in tests. He's played about 5 good innings out of over 100 in international cricket. His consistency is worse than Afridi, yet he barely bowls these days.

The problem with Ashraful or Bangladesh for that matter is that they look immensely "talented" but don't deliver often, That consistency is just not there, I sometimes wonder how can a team with so many gifted players like Bangladesh still struggles to win games consistently. Lets see if they can turn things around tomorrow.

Mushfiqur rebuilding after Bangladesh's disastrous start, 92/5 at the moment. Disappointing that there is no Live telecast of this series in India, no telecast of a cricket series in a world champion country!!!! I'm able to watch live streaming though, but watching only now and then.

I disagree. There is nothing really immensely talented about a lot of these players in the BD side. Shakib is awesome, Tamim has a lot of talent and I rate Mushfiqur. Outside of those three, none of the players would even make it to a first class side in Australia nor a second XI. And Australian cricket isn't exactly at its strongest.

If you'd made those comments about the Windies I'd agree. West Indies have had so much talent, yet they seldom manage to play as a team and win games. When you have the likes of Gayle, Bravo brothers, Barath, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, Roach, Rampaul, Simmons, etc and you're barely winning, then there are some real underlying issues.
