I can't see Windies beating India really, but there will be some decent individual performance.

If Gayle comes back Windies have a very good chance.

Ashwin will take care of Gayle. Gayle doesn't handle off spinners well upfront. It's a reason why he don't ever shine against Trinidad and Tobago in the limited format back here. Yesterday they dismissed him for 31, and he fell yet again to an off spinner.
If they bowl the pies of Kumar, Vinay etc up front, he'll hammer them around.

Solid performance by WI here, 216/3 with about 10 overs left in the day.
The moment Bangladesh land in Mirpur they start to struggle, why can't they play more games at Chittagong?

Kirk Edwards looks like a good find. Scored a 100 against India in difficult conditions for batting and is now on 74* after 3 of his colleagues succumbed in the final session on day 1. He's mature, at 26, and has a decent first class record behind him compared to the young kids they're picking. A team with this guy, Barath, Simmons, Gayle, Bravo brothers, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, etc looks very good on paper.

Pwoahh!! Fidel Edwards, what an effort to burst the first 5 wickets like that. Mini recovery from BD, as usual Shakib al Hasan is the guy saving BD. The only player in this side who truly is world class, 5 for in the first innings and a quick fire not out 50 after his top order implodes.
It's always going to be a perplexing series between WI and BD. Everyone expects BD to perform well, but if they do then people start questioning the commitment of WI. So even if BD do well, no one will be convinced they've 'turned a corner'. Anyway, 355 by WI is enough and considering how inexperienced their line up is, it's not such a bad effort. BD's "fast" bowlers are toothless and lack penetration and there's nothing in this wicket, yet Edwards has take 5-for. |

Darren hasn't lived up to the expectations as yet but this should do his confidence a world of good.
As for the game WI have a great chance of winning this, they should I really can't see how BAN are going to save this one.

A scare? Mate they've been set 500 to win. Has BD even made over 250 in the 4th innings of a test before?

While having 300 to chase in ODI's, Bangladesh approaches it like a test match. Having 500 to chase in a test match, they're playing in attacking fashion? They're right to say sports is mainly mental and obviously, Bangladesh is seriously lacking that.

Nothing against Mikey but BAN have this tendency to do well when the task is extremely difficult. In this game chasing 521 to win they were 402/6 at one stage... I know of one more such game but I'm not able to track it down.

Sorry, but one example and in fact an example in which they ended up losing won't do it for me. I mean for crying out loud, these BD boys have no temperament at all. Cricket is 90% mental and these kids don't know it yet. It's called having a joke of a FC competition in BD.

BD has talented players, but having 1 or 2 talented individuals doesn't mean a test side should be created. In fact, Kenya had Tikolo and Odumbe in the 90s whereas BD had NO one memorable or talented from the same time period. It's arguable that Afghanistan have as much individual talent or even Holland - again (and definitely Ireland), you can't justify creating a test team on that basis.
Ten Doeschate plays county cricket and IPL and he's not from a test side. If he really wanted to play tests he could go to his land of birth, South Africa, or try play for England. For me, Shakib al Hasan is the only guy in the BD side that would get close to a test spot for another nation. Mahmudullah, Mushfiqr and Tamim perhaps would make it to FC level......... |

What mystery is saying is right, how do they improve unless they play, I mean in the first test BAN had the upper hand, why can't we appreciate their efforts then? There is every chance that had rain not intervened BAN might have been playing to win the series tomorrow and let's not forget they are still in with a chance to draw this series and have taken it to the last day.
I understand what Mikey is saying and what he is saying is also fine but his expectations are a bit too high, I agree BAN's progress is very slow, in fact as I admitted I find ZIM's progress to be better, but then we can't ignore them. Apart from Shakib at least Tamim has to be considered as a world class player. He has an average of 41 in tests which is higher than a lot of players we consider to be good.

Mushfiqur is better than Adnan Akmal or any Akmal keeper
.Shakib ul Hasan , twin 50s and a 5 wicket haul - quality cricketer, really wonder how much better he could be if he played for a stronger side and also had other perks (better pay, facilities + conditions, etc.) A massive win here to the Windies and it was a complete team effort. Bishoo nabs his first 5 for in tests, Edwards blasted the BD batsmen in the first innings and the other bowlers were more than handy. What impressed me the most was the batting. Kirk Edwards has started his career with a bank, young Bravo almost made 200 for a maiden ton, Chanders made runs and the very, very young opening pair (besides a silly run out) did not shame themselves at all. Windies now have a good leg spinner, a lot of talent with the bat and enough fast bowlers to keep them going. I mean even Rampaul, who was injured, was not that badly missed. I hope Otis Gibson can bring this team together and we can see Windies back in the top 5. Calypso cricket is my favourite type! |

Bishoo is so underrated. He was even troubling a few of the Indian stalwarts and young batting stars when India toured the Windies. I think he may trouble a few of the Indians over the next month or so.

Backward Point, this time he has to meet Sehwag, Gambhir, Tendulkar, it will be his hardest test ever in his bowling career. I expect him to cause the odd trouble here and there but these Indians are so good against spin no matter the quality. He'll have to be on top of his game to do well in the next month or so.

spin wizard - You make a valid point. Even the likes of Warne and Murali have struggled against Indian batting and Graeme Swann, best spinner in world cricket, got looted for 7 runs an over with ease on turning tracks in India in the recently concluded ODI series. Having said that, I still think Bishoo has a few things going in his favour.
Firstly, the novelty factor. Viru, Gautam and Sachin won't have played against him much, if at all, and they probably won't have seen enough of Bishoo to figure out all his tricks. Granted, this isn't that big a factor given that a) Indian technique against all spin is rock solid and b) Bishoo isn't exactly a Mendis type mystery spinner where novelty is a real weapon. Nevertheless, this might account for a few Indian wickets on turning tracks. Also, despite the obvious experience and talent present in India's batting ranks, they are not exactly going to be in red hot form or high in confidence after the drubbing at the hands of England. Some like Viru and Sachin won't have had much cricket over the past few months, Yuvraj/Kohli will be under pressure to cement their place ahead of the other, Dhoni will want to prove that he is capable of making runs in the longer format since he didn't exactly cover himself in glory during the England test series. Basically, I am saying that a lack of form, match time and confidence may result in technical deficiencies creeping in. I remember Graeme Swann beating Sehwag and bowling him through the gate in England. That was a great delivery no doubt but I am sure a lack of form had a role to play too. If I recall, Laxman wasn't that comfortable against him over in the Windies. Add everything else I mentioned and if we get some raging turners, I can definitely see Bishoo causing problems. |

Stupid comments made by skipper Mushfiqr Rahim. Singling out the best, and only test class player for gifting his wicket. Attacking the ex-captain like that oozes arrogance and was completely insolent.
The biggest problem for these BD players is attitude. Tamim Iqbal averages 40 as an opener, which is very respectable, but his attitude is pathetic. Every second match he is violating some code of conduct, he makes arrogant comments in the media and has also lost his vice captaincy role. Cricket is 90% mental, unfortunately for the BD players they haven't yet figured that out. |

I can tell you now Sledger, at my university here we have a cricket oval in the centre of the campus and I see the first grade/State cricketers training and I can say with confidence that all those kids would give the BD players a run for their money.
Some of these young fast bowlers, maybe 17 or 18 years old are easily hitting 85mph+. |
