Should be a good series this and although SLN start as clear favorites I think the WI will give them a good fight. It'll be good to see the WI play after a very long time!

As long as the ball is moving around, West Indies are clearly going to lose!!

Trouble SL at home where the likes of Samaraweera, Dilshan, Jaywardena and Sangakkara have all average over 60 in the last 2 years?
I agree if it's a bowling deck for pacers that Windies might cause a bit of concern but as I say, West Indians can't bat in conditions where the ball moving around, except for Chanderpaul and that's why other than Chanderpaul, all of them average very ordinary in England.

A lot depends on Gayle's mindset , having lost the captaincy. If Gayle fires , it'll lift the entire team and they could well post big totals. They've started well , winning the toss and batting first - 37-0

Thats right Sledger, and it is looking that way Gayle really taking it to the Sri Lankan quicks , I wish Windies can get a big total here.

115-1 at lunch with gayle still there on 54 , Darren Bravo on 4*. Nice effort by Barath , who fell for 50 just before lunch. That's a solid start and the Lankans will be worried that Gayle might really set about them in the afternoon - we've already seen him clear the rope a couple of times.

Gayle has just murdered them! Boy what an Innings!!! A double century in a day, Chris Gayle is just amazing!!!
SLN have clearly missed Murali and Malinga and they need to re-look at their bowling attack. Randiv and Mendis are good but the pacemen are just not good enough. Where is Dilhara?

Mystery, the thing is, if West Indies can make this amount of runs, I think those Sri Lankan runs machine will make plenty too. The only advantage West Indies will have over Sri lanka is the pace attack - Sri Lanka without Malinga has a very weak pace attack.
Anyhow, this was a surprise for me when I heard the score this morning.
Anyhow, before the series started with the guys were in an instance fitness camp in Barbados, Gayle tweeted and said "400 and 9.58 will be in trouble" - meaning Lara's record of 400 and Usain Bolt world record. Obviously, it seems like that fitness camp has paid off.
Let Sarwan take note and realise there is no more tolerance slack people in terms of discipline!

333 it is! Struck down by a triple nelson before he had a chance to trouble Lara's 400*, but still and amazing innings and only the 4th person to get a second test 300+.
WI bowlers need to do something now though!

Currently all the underdogs are doing well so Windies have a chance to surprise SL.

Gayle has to be up there with Sehwag for entertainment value when he's going. Yes , it's a batting paradise and the attack without Murali and Malinga looks ordinary , but it was still a treat to watch. He mixes explosive hitting with restful periods where he's happy to rotate the strike - very mature batting. The Windies are yet to win a series in Sri Lanka and you'd have to think that there's little chance of winning this one - I wouldn't be surprised if the Lankans got a 1st innings lead!

Rain washes out most of day 3. This is headed for a draw!
Nonetheless, as a Windies fan, I could live with a scoreline like this!

Lankans follow on. When was the last time Srilanka was made to follow on in Srilanka? They were given their own medicine in their backyard. They were so successfull in batting the opposition out (at home). Good to see Windies improved performance in this test. Hope they continue to better this in future.
How does Sammy fare as captain? In my opinion, apart from captaincy skills, his main assignment would be to make West Indies play with pride and compete as a team.

They did forced SLN to follow on and that too in their backyard, that is an immensely good performance by your boys Spinny! SLN have responded well in their second innings though and once again Rain washing off the last hour of play!
WI still have a chance but SLN may just hold on for a draw. nonetheless well done WI!

More impressive is Shillingford's 4 fer. He's had a pretty good start to his career. The Sri Lankans aren't no mug against spinners.

So the match ends in a draw, Rain spoiling almost a day of play over the course of 5 days and that really costed the WI. However SLN showed good resistance on the last day. Paranavitana has been a very impressive opener in his short career so far.
I'm not watching these games live but yes Roach and Shillingford seem to be the main men with the ball... I have never seen Shillingford bowl, hope to see more of him in the WC.

And he rightly gets reported for a suspect action. I did not enjoy watching him bowl - but then the ICC now have the 15 degree thing and a lot more guys are bowling with similar unclean actions.

Yes, his action was always suspect, although due to the long sleeve, it's hard to tell to what extent it is too. Any off spinner who chucks gets an advantage, the ball can dip and bounce sharply on you plus allows you a better chance of the doosra.
