The lessons must be learn from this - no cricket in SL at this time of year! When was the last time a test was played where a single innings wasn't completed ?

ODI series cancelled - only move possible really. They're hoping to replay before the World Cup, so likely to be late January

Question guys, who sets the date for the series, is it the home Boards? I know the home boards dictate which grounds. Say for instance West Indies have 2 home series next year, Pakistan first then India. Do the West Indies then decide well, we have 4 free months to accomdate them and schedule the dates even if they decided to cram it in 3 months?

Update - apparently the series is still on, although I wouldn't be surprised if it is eventually called off.

It'll have to stop raining this week - drainage doesn't seem that brilliant on the subcontinent!

1993 Kandy IIRC. Only 10 overs were possible.

Usually December is not that rainy in southern and western parts of SL. This year it has been raining like nothing. It's unfair to question the board IMO. We never saw this much of rain in last 20 years.

Nah, both Hambantota and Pallekele have excellent drainage because of the sandy soil. And guess what, rain has stopped AFTER they have cancelled the series. **** that weather god!

Chennai and coastal areas in AP have suffered a lot because of rains this year... Crapbag is right, this is not a rainy season but this year not just in SRL but almost the entire south India as well has received quite unbelievable rainfall in OCT, NOV and even DEC so far which is not normal... we cannot blame anyone for this scheduling really, it is just sheer bad luck! and indeed forecast on almost every website now says that it will be clear...

Let's hope that the West Indies use their sense and bat Darren Bravo at number 3 and let Sarwan bat at 4. Darren Bravo is all class!!! If you all saw him recently in the T20's here, it was terrific stuff from him. Plenty reminders of Lara although Bravo seems to swing his bat harder than Lara. The guy pulled some balls like bullet over mid wicket. I really have hope for him and I don't see these Sri Lankan bowlers worrying him that much to be honest.

This is getting serious sledge, it has been raining non stop over there, you would certainly not expect rains in Februar anywhere in the sub continent. At the moment it is as dry as it gets in India, my biggest worry now has become the World Cup because PAK play all their games in Sri Lanka.
Desperately hoping the Rains go away by 19th Feb, the temperatures are rising by every passing day in this part of the world, hopefully it will help the cause of removing the clouds.

Adrian Barath is good, he is really good. Spinny is right, WI batting will do well in the WC, bowling is a major worry esp without Taylor and Edwards.

Yes, the West Indies have a good batting line up now, sadly, only Kemar Roach is there to really worry batsmen. They'll be competitive at the WC though.
Barath and Bravo are 2 of the best upcoming youngsters in WC. Bravo looks a far better batsman but Barath is very tough, he's small, but ain't going let that go against him. He'll be a success for sure, i'm willing to bet what I have on that.

interestingly there are some ENG u19 - SLN u19 games also going on in colombo... none of those games are getting affected by Rain, full 100 overs are being bowled in fact. So it is raining only on the days SLN - WI play!

Finally we've had a result in this series as the rains have relented and a very ordinary performance by the WI. SLN continue to impress though and what a fine knock by Tharanga, he has this habit of scoring centuries out of nowhere, he is becoming an important part of the srilankan set up.
lots of improvement needed from the WI though, that is all I can say.

Gayle was looking good but got a very good delivery from Murali. Bravo jnr is still getting good scores, good to see. I wouldn't worry too much about this Sam, they surely will up their batting at some point. As I've said before though, the batting has to come up thrumps because the bowling doesn't have firepower.

WI lose, Good innings by Darren Bravo and Sarwan but not quite enough at the end. I have to say SLN are looking very formidable going into the WC. They are major contenders for the title.
This result also means that for the first time in history BAN have risen to No.8 in the ICC ODI rankings, WI drop down to 9th. That may change again in the WC but I have to say, WI need better performances from Chris Gayle and their bowlers who have looked very ordinary to make some impact at the WC.

My money is definately on Sri Lanka to win the world cup, Finalists at the last tornament, If they make it to the final they will not let this one get away from them imo.

I like the look of the Lankans as well , no side will be confident of beating them in their own backyard , but in India for the crunch matches towards the end of the tournament, they'll feel they've got a sniff.

That's what the West Indies will get for not picking specialist bowlers. Kemar Roach is the only specialist (ignore Ravi Rampaul, he only comes good one game per series). Benn is not to shabby either. Roach, Benn and Gayle will have to bowl economically to make up for the rest.
Lastly, very pleasing to see Darren Bravo continue his decent run of form. I expect him to do much better in India on the better batting decks but we'll see.
