1 T20 and 5 ODI's.

Zimbabwe have won the first ODI emphatically in the end with spin doing the job for them.  They had a torrid time with the bat with the exception of Masakadza and Chigumbura but bowled really well.

West Indies played the spin horribly, even Chanderpaul didn't look well against it.

And we in St. Vincent have experienced the driest February in about 23 years I think or 17, can't quite remember.

That don't mean much though, sprinklers are always on to keep the pitch fresh, whether the grounds men are competent enough is another story.

The scoreline was a shocker for me but you have to give credit to the Zimbabweans! The Windies look all over the place at the moment and Ramdin won't be a happy man! Hope Zimbabwe can give the Windies a run for their money!

Windies ODI squad has been named

Gayle (Captain), Barath, Fletcher, Deonarine, Chanderpaul, Pollard, Smith, Ramdin, Benn, Roach, Rampaul, Sammy, Miller, Bernard.

Very weak on the batting, only 5 specialist bat and Fletcher can be dismissed at any moment although he's been in good form domestically, nevermind that duck he got in the T20.

It's great to see Gayle back, with that, Zimbabwe now will be forced to not open the bowling with the spinners.  Gayle is very tall, he actually moves his foot to spinners and plays them well and has never been stumped in his career.  Anytime he goes down, he gets maximum.

Shockingly, Sarwan has been left out, after scoring a ton in his comeback game for Guyana.  Maybe he'll join the team in St. Vincent, along with Dwayne Bravo.

So, Zimbabwe won the first ODI after Dwayne Smith got dismissed the same way again for the thousandth time in his career - a wild swing for cow corner.  He was rightly dropped for the 3rd ODI in which they won thanks to Gayle and Deonarine.

It's been a high series for Zimbabwe so far and a very poor one for the Windies.  The remaining 3 ODI's are in my home town and I will only be going to sunday because of work.  Things are quite busy around here and because it's Zimbabwe why I am not to worked up about asking for time off (calling in sick is a waste of time, they will know where I am).

The Bravo brothers are in for the remaining 3 ODI's and I expect the Windies to win the remaining 3.  Dwayne Smith and Fletcher are out of the side which is no surprise really.  To be honest, Dwayne Smith had no call being back in the Windies team and if Pollard continue in the same way, he'll find himself out as well.

Zimbabwe lost the 3rd ODI and they lost it really when they sent West Indies in to bat.  Arnos Vale pitch plays quite different when the sun beats out on it, nevermind how hard or grassy it may look.

High tide was also due in the afternoon about 2.30, around the time when Daren Sammy made a mess of them.  The ball does do a bit here when the tide is high, seeing it's just a footstep away from the sea.

But generally, you have to bat first and it's a pitch that you either go hard or you have to do a lot of rotating of the strike.
