Like the "How do you bat?" thread but about bowling

do you consider yourself an attacking bowler or a defensive bowler?  and why?

and also would you say youd suit limited over cricket or four-day/ test cricket best?

also if you know id be nice if you could back up your point with strike rate or economy etc

i myself am a leg spinner, i think that im a defensive spinner, i bowl a leg stump line, and am better at restricting runs that takening wickets (but my strike rate of 18 dosnt really reflect this, neither does my economy of 4ish)

i think i would prefer playing in test matchs because it gives you more time to get your rythm and work on a batsmen

I'm not very good at bowling really but definatly attacking, my spin tends to be right length but can drop a bit short alot of the time, as for my medium pace well, I have been working almost exclusivly on pace at the moment and even when I bowl a bad ball people have hard time really dispacthing it as they seem a bit beaten by the speed, i'm no Brett Lee but I can cut the ball as well which results in quite an effective slower bowler.

I rarely do come up with wicket taking deliveries but the few good ones I do tend to be very good. Wont have a chance to try it in a game till April but for now been trying it in practice and if I can get some consistancy going then I should be a good aggressive quick.

I used to be a right arm fast medium with off-cutter as my speciality. Batsmen used to take me easy and giving away their wicket. Don't have a record of my statistics, but getting a couple of wickets in limited overs matches used to happen quite frequently for me. I still play cricket, but it's a rare event, coz I amd busy in my job now, although I can still bowl. I am still 29 years young.

im a left arm fast im more of an attacking bowler go for wicket instead of slowing down the runs but if we get a low total i can bowl defesively.  i tried bowling spin but found it harder to get a good line i only play limited over cricket but i wood really like to play four day cricket think it wood be better i dont no my strike rate or econonomy rate

My highest score is 108* this year which I scored from like 81 balls, I came in at number 5. My best bowling peformance would have to be 7-29 from eight overs. There was one over which I would rather forget, but I eventaully got my pray in that over, after he punished me for two sixes in a row, then next ball, I pitched it up and had him stumped. I bowl Leg Spin.

That was him

Well, for me, I am a leg spinner!

I am a wicket taken bowler and I don't like to categorize myself as attacking or defensive as I don't like to pitch up the ball that much as I am not that accurate. I can't restrict batsmen either! Definitely not me at all! I would say I am more suited to test cricket as I like it when guys are on the defense against me but on the other hand, I like them to come at me too so I can deceive them with the loads of turn I get.

I'm a legspinner, like everyone else on this topic! LOL

I've always been able to get turn but I do need to work on my accuracy quite a lot! I get wickets pretty quickly but I often to go for a few runs too, which doesn't bother me too much currently; I'd rather end up with 5-40 than 0-5! I think I would prefer test because I'd have more of a chance to work on the batsman and it's usually a  nice, gentle pace! LOL

I'm not good at all of them. I bowl them though, but that post was from last season, and I never said I was good at all of them. I bowl each art depending on the wicket, conditions, etc and whether I get a bowl or not.

But, I'm more dependable as a Fast-Medium, and if I were to choose an art to succeed at, it would be the art of fast bowling, and 70DS, please tell me where I said I was really good at all three arts, I'd really love to know.

..And fishcake, I'm not a fraud, I don't lie about my performances. Why do you lie about your performances? Is it to make yourself look good, or.. because your ability can't go anywhere near it?

I bowl right arm medium pace/ fast medium, depending on how bothered i can feel to run in fast that day, I also bowl leg breaks, but with far less success (only 2 wickets ever), with medium I can take a few wickets, but I'm still only a part timer and have only taken 2 for 15 as my best figures

i dont think that the world it full of leggies, if you look at the people on this forum, there all from widley variated countries, and also i think that because leg spin is the most difficult (or so its said) way to bowl, that your going to need alot of advice of forums like this that you prhaps wouldnt need if you were a pace bowler

also when you do become a good leg spinner, i think (this is my opinion only) that its the most exciting form of bowling, meaning that your more likley to want to talk to people abYOUR OUT! iot and share your wisdom

thats just my theory anyway Tongue

Leg spin maybe popular on this forum but where I live, the only spinners you can find are part timers. Bowlers by nature here are fast bowlers! There are a few spinners but do it as their main art.... and when I say few, I mean less than 10.

There are a lot opf spinners here in Scotland (well, that I've come across) who are taught to be Andy Symonds; bowl spin and pace. It's a reasonable idea but I'd be more inclined to focus one one thing.

Great post. I chose leg spin because I feel taking a leg spin wicket is like no other wicket. You know it is extremely difficult to geta ccuracy so you feel really proud.
