Certainly not Dravid. What a bad decision to make England bat first in the last Test

I would say Dravid. But he does make a few silly decisions when winning the toss, e.g the game against England. So I would say Ganguly

this is a rubbish poll.ganguly is not in the options. he was the one who improved the team and brought it to a new level.he was made the captain when the indian team was surrounded by controversies.he didn't have any good players with him.but with his aggresiveness he developed a team which had the powers to challenge a team like aus. dravid has got an experienced side.he has got players like tendulkar, yuvi, pathan etc who helps him win the match.many would say dravid but it was ganguly who crafted the team in such a way that we could now dream to win the w.c. |

And how many decisions has he made like that then - just 1?
Not every captain has made the right decision on what to do after winning the toss. You tell me one captain who always makes the right decision, then i may think about chaging dravid. |

Wanted to say this earlier but the problem sttoped me. Why is Sehwag there? Why isn't Ganguly there. I would say that Dravid can't be the best captain because he has just started. Ganguly got that position because he was captain for a very long time. He wasn't called the best captain overnight. I would say the best captain India has had is Kapil Dev because he took India to victory in the 1987 World Cup and played amazingly well in it too. Ganguly took India to the finals too, but didn't win. But he to was very good. Maybe second, or third. Kapil Dev also took India to the semi-finals in the World Cup which Sri Lanks won. I think he was captain.

look guys u need to get something straight, Dravid is nothing compared to ganguly when it comes to being a captain, dravid is an amazing player and has a great cricket mind but that does not mean he is a great captain, the shoes he has too fill are too big and dravid will fail miserably in trying to become the greatest captain or a good captain at that, this is not a knock on dravid but he hasnt shown anything to even become an average captain at best, the only reason india is winning the one day games is the emergance of dhoni and yuvi with some new young bowlers who have to bail out dravid and his horrible decisions, i think ganguly is the best captain of all time and will always be indias greatest captain, without ganguly dravid wouldnt be captain and would not have any of the players that he has even if he was! Gangulys cricket mind was something else and all of u need to get it throo ur head dravid will NEVER be the captain ganguly was!

The topic name is in the present tense, there is only 1 skipper at a time so it does not make sense.
The best ever captain, past or present for India is probably..ooh, umm, N Kapil Dev?
Led India to their only WC victory in 83 with a beautiful 175. Edited by MiNiWaRnEy |

Another stupid poll. No Ganguly , Azhur , no Kapil , no Wadekar - it begs the question , does the thread setter know his Indian cricket ?
There can be only one answer to that. As to the question who was the best captain of India (or that's what the thread should be asking) , it's a toss up. Ganguly is the most SUCCESSFUl captain but has obvious character traits which aren't something a skipper should have. (we all know what they are , I hope!) Kapil Dev is one of India's greatest ever players and he did win the WC. The players seemed to respond to him too. Azhurradin spoiled everything by being caught in the corrupt side of the sport which ruins any chance he had of being the people's choice. Tendulkar didn't hack it as a captain and that remains a bit of a mystery - the players really worked for him , but the results were poor. Wadekar was an old fashioned captain who commanded respect. A shrewd thinker , who was very good at utilising what little talent he had in the side at that time. I'd go for Wadekar , he'd shine today if he captained this Indian side. |

ya i agree with miniwarney that sachin was pathetic as a captain.sehwag first has to be consistent and then only he can think about captaincy. about dravid's decision of toss i think its the dropped catches and thepoor batting display of batting which has cost the match and not his decision to bowl first. i haven't seen kapil and other former players so i can't comment on them. |

I wouldn't say that Dravid is the best captain. He is not. For me it's either Kapil Dev or Ganguly. But guys you are being a bit too harsh with him. Just one toss mistake. Ganguly made a toss mistake in the World Cup 2003 finals. You all are being a bit too harsh. At the main thing is that Dravid almost won the game. It was only the second innigns collapse. Otherwise we could have won. The bowlers did very well in their department. Second daythey took all the wickets quickly. and also got Eng all out for 191. Sreesanth was amazing.

Dravid should not be getting all the votes. 6 months of captaincy. That's all!

I would say that the best captain India has ever had was Saurav Ganguly. No doubt that there were some bad traits that he had but he did completely change the attitude of Indian cricket. He was the most successful Indian captain!
