Ponting will play a lot longer than those two.

Good one Graham!

Ponting all the way.
He will have the most centuries, no doubt about it.

Ponting by plenty. He may get up as high as 50. If he does, that will take some beating. He still has i think at least 4 years left but the last year or so he may struggle, but at the moment, i have no doubt he will get over 40 centuries, break the most test runs in history and a few more records along the way. (in my opinion)

For me Ponting has by far the best chance, Lara will over take Tendulkar unless he can find his old form but Ponting has plenty of time and even if he only plays mediocre (for his standards) he could easily make 40. Yousuf ha sleft it a bit late and unless he plays against England for the rest of his career i can't see him challenging.

Lara is gone from test cricket lad!!

It's all up to Ricky Ponting now unless he goes through a dry patch.

Don't worry guys, I will have the most test centuries in the future. LOL

Ponting is only 2 centuries behind 2 years younger than Tendulkar and given that the other batsmen on the list of most centuries have either retired or are much older than him. Ponting will easily have the most test centuries of all batsmen because at the rate he's going he could easily finish with more 50 centuries.

Thanks for that Tonks, he's gone to the effort to put it up there BFM and it gives us a good indication of where they stand- appreciate it.

I think Kallis should be added to the list personally....
Good one Graham!

And neither can you lad.  What you should appreciate is that Tonks' post actually contains something of merit and is worthy of discussion.

I am not sure. There are plenty of matches played these days and Ponting has age on his side and Australia specially play a lot of matches. But Sachin is in good form and can hit 5 or 6 centuries within a series or two. This series between Aus and India will make things different. and ponting's conversion rate is much better than Tendulkar's. It will be pretty good to have more centuries than half-centuries. Both players are great and their form in these years can also decide who ends up with more centuries.

Kallis has a nice home series against the Windies coming up too - surely chances for a couple of more tons lads.

How quickly Kallis has reached those figures. Just amazing. If I remember correctly his average was around 54 before this purple patch. Yes, against Windies, I expect his tally of avg and tons to go up.
This just shows that any player is in the reckoning if he is good form.

Ponting and Kallis have played the same amount of matches and are relatively the same age, however, Ponting is ahead of kallis by quite a bit in terms of the no. of test centuries.

In my opinion, Ponting is the better batsman - hes also much better to watch!

They're different animals Sam , but they share something in common - they're the finest batsman in their respective sides.
